Removing the Coal Car from the Brooks Mine!

- After timbering the Brooks Mine up to the coal car, we remove it using a winch and lots of patience. The rail was removed as it was badly deteriorating, so we used some pieces to slowly guide it out.
This project is being completed on a 100% volunteer basis! But the material and other costs add up quickly. Support us here - undergroundmin...
Treat her like an old friend and be gentle. She's been alone and in the depths for so long. Wonderful recovery.
I like the portable hoist house but might be a tad slow for a hi output application

Originally was the cars pulled by mules? In later times was the carts still pulled by mules . Or was this done with an engine? Just curious.
Did the wheels still turn after 70 years or did you have to grease them? I would think that they'd be seized up.
Amazingly they turned!
While I understand wanting to get the old cart out of there to have room to move and work in the mine, why not load it on a truck to take it for restoration while you have it out of there?
That’s the eventual plan. Getting the mine open to the public is the first priority.
Someone still managed to put Graffiti on it at some point 😞

When folk say how did they build the Pyramids I say ask a coal miner .
Put a chain on it and drag it 20 minute job I don't think these guys were UMWA
