  • Apis - the divine bull and a primary deity of ancient Egypt. Thanks to the discoveries of Auguste Mariette, today, when we hear about sacred Egyptian bulls, we think of the Serapeum in Saqqara with its enormous granite and diorite sarcophagi. However, the cult of Apis was not only about the Serapeum or even Memphis, where the sacred animal stayed and “prophesied” to both distinguished and ordinary Egyptians. The cult of cattle dates back to the prehistory of Egypt and lasts until late antiquity. Why did the ancient Egyptians choose a bull as one of their highest deities? Who did they see in Apis and what was the life, death and funeral of this animal idolized by all the people of Egypt? If you want to find out the answers to these questions and learn many little-known facts about the history and religion of ancient Egypt, listen to this podcast!
invite you to listen, regardless of whether the history and mythology of Egypt is an entirely new field for you, or, like me, you are a maniac about the past of the land of the pharaohs. I invite you to hear the entire story, which I narrate in a captivating ASMR (Sleep Story) way. So tune in and enjoy!
Join me on an incredible journey through Egyptian history and mythology!

Hi Irena! I am going to Egypt this November and I will be definitely watching more of your podcasts to learn more about Ancient Egyptian beliefs to get a better understanding before going there in person! I will be visiting Upper Egypt for 2 weeks and I have seen some of your videos of the areas that you went that I will be going to. I'm so excited about going and it is thanks to people like you who explain very well the history of Ancient Egypt that makes it all the more appreciative when being there in person.

Outstanding video. I have been to the Serapeum and it is magnificent. I love that you give time frames for your comments. The comparative research you've done is just great. The quotes from the ancient historians and readings from original Egyptian sources made the mysterious Apis cult much more vivid in my imagination.
As you spoke, I could feel what it must have been like. Thanks.

The Apis is a symbol of stability that succeeds chaos the Ram.
Ancient Egypt was based upon dichotomy, where dualistic thinking perpetuated wars and separation.
    The Ram is chaos
    The Bull is order
but they are interconnected and part of the same coin, just like coincidentia oppositorum states.
The only way to solve this paradox between chaos and order is with the scales of 7 notes and 8 an octave of transformation.
1 symbol created a paradox against the shadows of chaos, but only 4 can bring harmony back because the quaternary is inside the ternary.

This is hard for me as a modern person to wrap my head around. Nearest thing we have is the county fair where bulls are prized based on breeding potential as agricultural products. They took it way beyond that to something reminding me partly of hinduism in reverence for a bovine and reincarnation but also of the sacrifice based religions of the past. I wonder how the cow came to Egypt and was it some proto indo european group whose traditions passed down?

Personally, I think ancient Egyptians inherited such places like the Serepium and scribed their own narrative on them. Not all have scribary and the ones that do are crude. If they were so special they would make them look wonderous. And how did they get them down there and in their current place?
I don't think they were for the Apis bull sacrifices. I don't know what they were for, but no ashes or remains were found. Why would grave robbers take ashes or remains? They wouldn't. So, if they were there where did they go? I don't think they were ever there and ancient Egyptians stumbled on the structure.
No one has explained how they carved and sculpted such hard stone with copper, and then move them. Big difference between 2 ton limestone and 70-150 ton granite or diorite with a hardness of 8&9. And then polished to a reflective shine with such exacting measurements and grade of excursion being 1/10000 of excursion which we can barely do today without lazers. I don't think those who built them had lazers, but we don't know what they had nor do the 'experts' even study it. It has taken engineers to go, measure, study and find that the ancient Egyptians could Not have created them with the tools the experts say they had.
There is more to the mystery of Egypt than their mythology and magic. There are structural wonders that get ignored by the experts because they have no answers. They want to have all the answers, but then ignore such structures or chalk them up to thinking the ancients were simpletons? Ridiculous to me.

I assumed this was an educational channel. I can literally listen to twice as much info in the same time by watching it from any other creator. If y'all are just here for the sultry ASMR voice that's fine, I'm just saying I had to bail because I came here to learn about Apis bulls.
