“His audience has a reputation for ferocity, and the reputation is totally justified. At last summer’s show at Madison Square Garden, the floor was wobbling during “Kiwi” - I’ve been seeing shows there since the 1980s, but I’d never seen that happen before. (The only other time? His second night.) His bandmates admit they feared for their lives, but Harry relished it. “ - ROB SHEFFIELD

The thing he did at the end where he sprays water out of his mouth is kind of a signature move he does called “The Whale”. He’s done it ever since 1D and he ends Kiwi with it. You can see at the end of Kiwi #1 and #2 he goes to get a drink and the crowd expects the whale but, he tricked them 😉

    @ANNEMARIE.K236 Před 4 lety +161

    The setlist was:
    1. Only Angel
    2. Woman
    3. Ever Since New York
    4. Two Ghosts
    5. Carolina
    6. Stockholm Syndrome (a song he wrote for One Direction, though he did a different arrangement)
    7. Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart (a song he wrote for Ariana Grande)
    8. Medicine (unreleased)
    9. Meet Me In the Hallway
    -----
B Stage (the small stage where you saw him go the second time he performed Kiwi in this video)
    10. Sweet Creature (he and Mitch on acoustic guitars)
    11. If I Could Fly (a song he wrote for One Direction, but this version is completely acoustic, he alone with a guitar)
For this particular concert, he also did Girl Crush
    -----
    12. Anna (unreleased, samples George Michael's Faith)
    13. What Makes You Beautiful (biggest One Direction hit ever. His version is completely different though)
    14. Sign of the Times
    ------
Encore (he usually made a joke like "I'm gonna go backstage, have a wee, pretend I'm not coming back, even though you know I will. Have fun and scream for 90 seconds")
    15. From The Dining Table
    16. The Chain (Fleetwood Mac cover)
    17. Kiwi
His bit was "I only have ten songs, so we're gonna sing some covers and some new songs blah blah". He played rhythm guitar for a good chunk of these. Ever Since New York, Two Ghosts, Carolina, Stockholm Syndrome, Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart... I'm almost sure for all of those. Sweet Creature. If I Could Fly and Anna for sure. I don't know if he played it for The Chain? I think he might've for some concerts and not for others. He had three guitars he played.
He ad libbed a lot in between songs. From reading signs, to asking people if it was their birthday, to pointing out men in the audience (I wonder if he's gonna keep doing that since apparently his male fanbase has grown quite a bit). He had a knack for queer fans and would go out of his way to acknowledge their signs and talk to them. Also pregnant women. Also babies. He spent a lot of time talking to the audience and joking around. It's a fandom joke that he wants to be a comedian.
He had a different suit every night (except Mexico, he repeated outfits there, but switched shirts, one night it was black the other white, but the suit was GORGEOUS and it was inspired in one of Mexico's big music artists, a man called Juan Gabriel). He did a kilt for Scotland! That was gorgeous. He had different designers as well, all customs. A handful of the suits were from up and coming queer designers and the rest were Gucci, Calvin Klein, Saint Laurent, etc. All the suits were fantastic, and it makes differentiating concert footage quite easy lol. He basically puts the same amount of effort in his presentation as a pop girl, which is quite rare for men in pop and I personally appreciate it a lot.
He waved one (or several) queer flags during What Makes You Beautiful, and during the American leg of tour he added Black Lives Matter flags. Every tour stop had picked charities that would receive part of the ticket and merch profits. He donated 1.2 million dollars in total. He had a cheat sheet of words in every language and made an effort to have at least some sort of conversation in each country. He talked quite a bit in Spanish. I know since then he's been studying Italian and Japanese, so next time he might do more of that. Last time, he was dating a French girl, so she was teaching him French and he was quite amused by the word "pomegranate" and kept repeating it throughout the show (makes sense since the word is pamplemousse and he's five years old mentally). He also counted in German, a lot? Like, till thirty or something. It was funny because it came out of nowhere. Ummm, what else, what else. The spitting you see at the end was called "the whale" he did it at the end of Kiwi every night. He started doing it in 2014 and it kind of came with him to his solo career.
Also "this is a family show! ....or is it?" which is so silly but everyone loves when he says it. He dances like a lunatic every time there's a slightly uptempo song and he's not physically holding a guitar (sometimes he dances with the guitar as well). He has crazy reflexes and what you saw of him holding that sunflower was him catching stuff left and right. In London, a fan threw Haribo and he caught it with his mouth.
This show was the last one of the second part of tour, which consisted of 60 arena shows. All the American shows were 360. The entire thing was sold out. Before that he had a 29 concert tour in theatres in 2017, for which it was IMPOSSIBLE to get tickets. It had a different setlist and different setting, so I'm not gonna go into detail but it was a great warmup.

When this show was happening, I remember people live-tweeting “HARRY’s Doing Kiwi” “Harry’s doing Kiwi a SECOND time”, “Harry’s doing Kiwi a THIRD TIME, omg!!” What I love about Harry’s tours is that we don’t only go to one concert, you feel like you’re at every concerts because people are live-posting what’s happening, it’s so much fun. It starts even before Harry gets on stage, we start guessing what he’s gonna wear for the night, what color suit, what style, which pair of boots. And when it comes time for the show to start, everyone’s glued to their screens, waiting! Audience members have their cameras ready to take the first snap of Harry’s outfit as soon he shows up on stage. Then those snaps start circulating through every social media platform as we collectively lose our minds. I miss tour so much. It’s the only thing I was looking forward to this year and now no one knows when it’s gonna be safe enough to go to concerts. I feel so sad, I could cry. One day, for sure though, we’ll be able to experience those unforgettable, joyful tour moments again and I CANNOT wait.

As amazing as HS1 was and as well received as it was by Harry's fans and critics alike, Harry's eponymous debut was slept on by audiences

Also he has a habit of incredible catches of stuff thrown on stage. The London show I was at the girl next to me in the pit kept throwing gummie bears onto the stage, so he said she could throw one at him and he would try to catch it in his mouth and he caught it, the whole crowd went wild and Mitch even got excited, lol, Mitch never gets excited.

Oh you didn't say what the drum cover thingy song was but I think I know what you're going to choose. And I'm making you you promise right here, right now that you'll do a Golden drum cover too.

There are even compilation videos of nothing but him catching things. Lol. I felt the worst for Sarah and her arms because she must have had noodle arms.

But my husband and son had been away for a week and I would have been at this show when they got back and I felt guilty. So I shut it all down and didn't go. I SHOULD HAVE GONE! LOLCry.
At least I got to see him at other shows prior or my regret would have been even worse!

I 100% agree that he is one of the best performers alive. That is also the reason I really don't want to talk about his 1D days. The band was his gateway to a much greater career. He was really young at the time (still is), and of course the time with the band did him good. But he is so so much more than a part of 1D. I think that even without the success of 1D he would have made it on some level. There is so much talent and charisma in him.
Thanks for a great... reaction, I guess? Or fangirling for 15 minutes :D

Tommy, if you love Harry, you will also love him in One Direction. He had as much stage presence as he does now! I would definitely keep going down that rabbit hole (like so many of us "newbies" have) but maybe start at the latest stuff and work your way back. Once you hear their last album you'll want to keep digging. There are the same rock influences in most of their music. You will also like Niall Horan. His writing is incredible and his albums are both so good. But he does some killer covers as well of The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel to name a few!
