- We've taken a look at five legendary horses who've achieved big things but were beaten in the Epsom Derby.
00:00 - Dancing Brave, 1986
01:14 - Ulysses, 2016
02:15 - Dubawi, 2005
03:14 - Dubai Millennium, 1999
04:21 - Roaring Lion, 2018 - Zábava
Dancing Brave is the best horse never to win it.
Rhinegold too
Dancing Brave is the best I have ever seen, the 86 Derby was a fluke, he did the last 2 furlong faster than a 5 furlong sprinter, another 10 yards and he would have won. Look what he did to Sharastani in subsequent races, he destroyed him. The 86 Arc showed him at his best, he was in about 10th place with 100 yards to go and went past a world class field in a matter of strides and won going away, it was electrifying
Dancing Brave was Exciting, as was Mike Tyson , but Neither were the Greatest in Their respective Sports tho.. I rate Nijinsky ,Shergar, Seabird the Second, Ribot and Pent celebre' Ahead of Dancing Brave in Europe. And Secretariat as the Greatest Middle Distance Horse of All Time. thats imho
Sometime,s you can show true greatness in defeat dancing brave did that and more.
El gran senor 84 dancing brave 86
Lets go back to a 5 day festival, 1965 the great SEA BIRD won it, was fantastic week of racing, and for the following years, nowaday its a sprint, 2 days only, its a sin.
Gran Señor contra Secreto!!
Sad thing is G Starkey cost dancing brave the Derby poor judgement bad ride and dueley lost the ride and rightly so
I believe it was the course, plus clever tactics by Walter swinburn on Sharastani, that got Dancing Brave beat. He was unbalanced going left handed round the Epsom bends and only picked up in the straight. Sharastani was a Good Horse, He peaked in the Irish Derby winning by 8 Lengths. Michael Stoute His Trainer said the Horse was beaten before the start in the King George, sweating profusely, before the start and Running a Lifeless race in 4th
His inferior Stablemate Shardari gave Dancing Brave a few worries at the end. I'm not Saying Dancing Brave wasnt Greater, just that Sharastani was a decent Horse
Weirdly Pat Eddery got the ride on Dancing Brave but it was Eddery on El Gran Senor who did not lose the ride.
Where is rhinegold
I think Rheingold deserved to be on this list. Lost the Derby by a millimeter went on to with the Arc.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Who did Lammtarra do on the line? Tamure? Blues traveller?
Tamure
With the exception of Dancing Brave this a rather poor collection. Where is El Gran Senor?
Exactly.
I backed Secreto that day and the reason he won was because Eddery played it too cute, he should have pushed for home earlier when he got to the lead instead he tried to coast and #secreto wanted a battle which he won. All on Eddery that loss i'm afraid.
I would have won hundred grand
El gran senor just did,nt get home had every chance.
should this not have been described as some of the worst rides given by jockeys for the most part these horses were never given a chance. dubawi probably was never going to win it but was not in a position to have a run.
Dancing Brave....gave it no chance
Connections didn't think he'd stay.
@@andyspry1050 Bizarre when you see this and the Arc.
@@andyspry1050 He was pushing the horse along before they turned in for home, it obviously hated the track
@@becausewemust In The Arc Eddery gave Dancing Brave the same type of ride as Starkey did in The Derby. Unfortunately for Starkey, he possibly mistimed his charge to the front.
All the great jockeys have that one bad race that forever haunts them, for Starkey, it was this Derby.
@@oslinthompson8182 absolutely correct, Starkey nearly got the horse up. Had the race been five lengths longer he would have won. Starkey mistimed his charge.
What about the horse that sires loads jumping horses kings theatre
For me I would’ve had Saxon warrior in the 2018 derby.
But I guess we know now 12f wasn’t his distance
He didn't win a race after it
The fastest horse wins the Guineas, the luckiest the Derby and the best horse wins the St. Leger
Bollocks. The best horse wins the derby.
If that phrase was ever true it hasn't been for decades.
Shows how bad the derbys got..finished..moving to a 2 day meeting in the best course in the world is now finished...CRAP
Greville starkey fucked it up
