    GRASSMEN are the fast-paced, global agriculture phenomenon whose video content and merchandise are recognised worldwide. The business was started in 2009 by current director Gareth Gault, known to fans as ‘Donkey’. His love and passion for machinery allowed him to experiment with cameras and upload content to CZcams. To his surprise, a large following soon developed and the niche in the market for real-life, documentary, farming and machinery action made it possible to drive the brand forward.
    We at GRASSMEN, pride ourselves on providing an exclusive look into agricultural manufacturers, meeting real, working farmers, showing and demonstrating tractors and machinery through all seasons such as silage and slurry and ultimately educating and entertaining our fans.
    If you love all things agriculture from top manufacturers such as John Deere, Fendt, Massey Ferguson, JCB, Land Rover and many many more, come and join #teamgrassmen, we would love to have you!

    Fantastic video guys. I would agree with what the lads point on some people considering going back to maybe doing their own silage with these sort of outfits. Some parts of the country some lads have got out of the contracting game this year which means some outfits are covering large areas now and not getting to farmers when they want their silage done. Interesting times ahead.

    You can get lower hour old machines and put em in the field and just go. The new ones require service technicians with computers to get back going so you'll still go down it just comes down to how much you want to spend. We are running around 2k acres hay and silage bales both our own and custom. We are running new implements but our newest tractor is a 2012 and the oldest is 09 and we really like be right in there where you are new enough for easy part sourcing but old enough that you don't have to many sensors to deal with. Great video

    • @Grassmen
      @Grassmen  Před 2 lety

      We are happy to talk about our costs. But we feel when we are with other people that its personal to them. If they choose to talk about costs thats on them but we tend not to ask as unless they volunteer.

      @tdolan500 Před 2 lety

      @@Grassmen I understand that and I understand that the price of machinery can be very dependent on who’s buying and when but there seems to be a vail of secrecy industry wide when it comes to what companies are charging farmers.
      As an example; I was curious what one of those new Pottinger Wagons retail at and I can’t find a price anywhere even to ballpark it. Seems like no one wants to publish the cost of machinery that’s current and I don’t think that’s really the case in any other industry.

    excellent footage , for me the best tractor in that line up is without a doubt the Genesis , stance , sound everything an absolute tool . really pleased you didnt slate the Crystal too much theres one thing i like about your reviews , straight to the point , thanks for the honesty Gary . a truth review , for some reason im so pleased you liked it and thought it was a good simple tractor and comfortable as well , id like to see it put through a bit more hard work just to see how it comes out .Do you not think the days of a man finishing a days graft and actually being able/bothered to do little bits and pieces to an older outfit i think those kind of men are getting few and far between , which is a crying shame it really is .

    But answer this, would ye agree that you'd have better quality silage in the winter? You can set your chop length as you like, more flexibility in the day you cut, more time to look after the pit as it goes in and make sure its rolled and clamped properly. A cooperative between a few neighbours with regard to purchasing equipment and id say youd definitely end up with better quality cow fuel as Gary called it

    I’m a fan of the blues and especially the TM but you’re dead right in saying all the tractors of that era were great machines with just enough tech to be comfortable to work all day but none of the adblue/dpf nonsense or gps/computer screens to go wrong and add to the cost 🚜🛠👍🏼

    I agree with Gareth there is a place for diy silage especially for the smaller family units that tend to be pushed down by big contractors who favour big customers we make haylage to sell and do everything ourselves so we cut when the crops are ready not when someone else says they maybe able to fit us in

    One of those harvesters has a great spout, one seems to be spout challenged. Never good to be short of the spout 😁😁 Serious entertainment watching that older fleet flexing in anger, even for the sound. Friend of mine had a tractor that whistled. Modern rallying and F1 has become as boring as watching paint dry compared to watching the older yokes that took skill to keep on the road. Constant rising prices for farm machinery is going to impose a bit of sense on the whole thing, the Exchequer running over the hill with half our diesel money in his pocket and the tree huggers trying to shut us all down as well.

      I think you'll see more happening like this as more farmers and especially larger dairy farmers move towards multi cut silage systems.
      You cant wait a week for a contractor in multicut. If its wet Monday Tuesday and dry Wednesday Thursday, you can't wait on the list you've got to go.
      The difference on 100ac of grass cut a week later is going to cost you 1.5-2ltrs a cow eating about 15kgs
      Dm of grass silage.
      1tonDM/ac, so that's 60cows/ac or 90-100ltrs x 40p is £36-40/ac x100 is 3600-4000/cut, 7 cuts in multi cut is £25-28000/year. That's from waiting for 1 week longer on each cut to cut

    With the money and complexity of new machinery right now I think alot of people are going back to the old kit, there is such a huge void in the price its a no brainer, most farms already have tm140 sized tractors so buying a 5k chopper and maby 10k worth of second had trailers is a very cost effective option these days
