Since when did Nancy ever beat Kristi (short or long program/amateur or professional) in a head-to-head competition? I can't recall any instance wherein Kristi ranked lower than Nancy at any competitions so your statement is FLAWED! Kristi DESERVED this gold medal! GO KRISTI!

What??? Kristi landed 6 triples - 4 different types - and only fell on the salchow (her nemesis). Nancy doubled the flip, singled the lutz, and fell out of the loop. Kristi landed all of these triple jumps, plus her triple-triple was harder than Nancy's (lutz-toe vs. toe-toe). No one in this final group was perfect, but Kristi was the closest.

This program can beat some of the programs the ladies today are doing. The jumps and spins are equal to or better than today's skating. Choreography and musicality is even better.

Kristi was amazing and lets hear for Sandra Bezic's choreography too.

I can't recall any head-to-head competition between Nancy and Kristi (short and/or long program, amateur and/or professional) wherein Nancy outskated or outmarked Kristi! So KERSTENFANATIC, your statement is totally FLAWED!

@kerstenfanatic ALSO, u need about 2 triple lutzes (which kristi did) to equal a 3-axel. AND one of those was a 3-lutz 3-toe, the closest combo to combat the 3-axel, meaning kristi well-exceeded the 3-axel on the lutzes alone. Kerrigan popped the lutz (worse than falling), didn't even land her 3toe-3-toe combo cleanly (her only combo, & difficulty= garbage), fell on the 3loop, doubled the flip. just a 3-salchow n 3toe landed cleanly. kristi also does harder jump entries n overall. u r so off

What a way to go out, skating a near perfect program in front of your hometown crowd.
Granted the triple salchow was never her jump to land (she landed that jump only once in 92, at the U.S. Nationals).
The pressure to win only one month after the Olympics is too much, but Kristi did it.
She's been asked countless times why she didn't stay around until the 94 Olympics to do it again.
She said the pressure would've been too much.
But I'd figured since she already won the Triple Crown in 92 (Nationals, Olympics, World Championship), maybe it wouldn't be as bad in 94.
Of course that would've meant getting whacked by Tonya in 94 instead of Kerrigan getting whacked.

She also managed to land it at 1989 Worlds and 1990 Skate America. Thanks!

Regardless of Kristi Yamaguchi being one step ahead of Nancy Kerrigan, Nancy Kerrigan was a pretty stable skater herself. She is by no means a 'terrible' skater because she knew more about the techniques than anyone else combined. She's not a strong competitor with Kristi because the only person that Nancy can compete against is herself. Generally you will find skaters excelling in areas using many different techniques.

wasn't Katarina 87 and 88. Kristi is the first back to back champions since Dorthy Hamil?

They specifically said the first back-to-back *American* world champ. Witt is German.

They should've said Peggy Fleming -- in 1991, Peggy was the last *American* back-to-back(-to-back) world champion.

@kerstenfanatic wow you really don't know how to watch figure skating. ur just a kerrigan fan and thinks she's good even when she's bad. ur going against even the facts. By scoring rules, no way would Kerrigan get a higher score than Kristi here. Not only by opinion+artistic impression did Kristi obviously outskate Nancy, Kristi also won by technical value. . side note, Kristi was always WAY above Nancy in execution, technical difficulty, and artistry. That's why her career record trumps Nancy's

@premierrules - Laetetia Hubert was not a pretty skater. Period.
