  • This last episode for Hannibal turned out to be a lot longer than I initially planned so I'm breaking it into 2 parts. I'm posting the episode on movement now. The combat episode will follow in the next day or so.
    Then it's on to Hamilcar.

Great content! I may be able to finally play this game thanks to your videos. You make the game looks so simple...the rulebook is a nightmare. Phalanx should pay you for this!

Are you sure Roman army cannot move unless it has 5 combat units? pg. 22: There is no penalty if a Consular Army falls below five CUs due to Attrition, Land Battle, or Retreat (e.g., the Army may still move, attack, conduct
sieges, etc.); and if it does, it may not drop off or leave behind CUs until it
    contains more than five CUs.

Overrun is vs 1 CU only by a 5+ CU army right? It is not overrun if you have 5+ and moves through.

Ben, Where did you get the rule that the Carthaginian Generals are ranked according to their Strategy rating (@ 2:55)?
I don't believe this is true.

I believe this is extrapolated from page 11. This games rulebook has some issues. How else do you rank the generals?

Page 11 doesn't say anything at all about using a General's strategy rating to determine rank. So I'd rank them as described on page 11... For Carthage, Hannibal and Hamilcar outrank all other Carthaginian generals. And since there's no further instruction on how the other generals are ranked, then it can only mean that all other Carthaginian generals are of equal rank to each other.
I like the way you explained it, but apparently the rules don't support it.

In the (original?) Avalon Hill version from 1996, it is explicit.
      “8.6 Rank
Normally, the owning player may decide which of the generals will be the commander and which will be subordinate …………..
……….However, if one of the general outranks another, then the ranking general must be commander.
Hannibal outranks all other Carthaginian Generals
      Consuls outrank Proconsuls”
So only considerations are Hannibal and Consuls.

@@jorunholm9060 Naval movemnet is much faster but does require a 3 strategy card plus include risk. Moving on land is several cards though- probably I'd go for naval if it was good odds (to Carthege for example).
