@@kimohani624 omori is basically sunny when he is under control. But when sunny thinks about mari's death then he hates himself and omori goes out of control. Then he reminds him of his guilt so its rather sunny trying to stop basil only in the form of omori

Like how PirateSoftware was seemingly the only guy to know what was up with the treehouse when he said "They're just poorly structured memories". Like... Sunny repressed the memories of the treehouse so badly, he can't even remember what the inside of it looked like and what was in there other than "it's a square room with a counter up against a wall with a window and a table in the middle with some ... stuff strewed about." A neat little detail. Of course Sunny would repress the treehouse, like he did a lot of other stuff having to do with his friends. He replaced it with Neighbor's Room, and moved it to underneath a tree stump. I don't think I've seen any other streamer comment on what is actually up with the treehouse room, everybody else either was indifferent or even confused.
makes sense, considering he's a game dev (making an rpg at that). He'd definitely be the one to notice those things.

@@bloodorange7428 Yup, Omocat starts laying the foundations of the story from the very beginning of the game. And the sheer majority of it goes over players' heads because they are lacking context. That's why the story writing in this game is so phenomenal, everything looks natural like it belongs in the setting, but yet later on you find out that there was a double meaning to half of everything you saw before.
I always find the friends death the most uncomfortable. At first it's all fun, you think you've finally found a good door and saved Basil. Then, Hero shows up (you would not believe how wide I smiled when he appeared) and I started mentally screaming when I saw Kel throw rocks at Basil. The glitchy stuff, the corrupted version of "Lost at a Sleepover" playing in the background, the cat, and the faces of the friends terrified me. And not only that, but the fast that they murder Basil without a second thought and move on makes me shiver

I find the raft death to be pretty powerful, in that it takes a break from more visually shocking deaths and instead forces the player into an uncomfortably pronlonged situation(sitting in the raft with his body). This also makes the friend death more shocking as the dip down in shock with the raft helps keep it from becoming stale.

honestly. the way it was set up made it so effective. if this were a typical horror story i wouldnt have really bat an eye aside from being a tad uncomfortable, because gore is normally just used as shock factor. but the first time i saw this my mind was reeling, because it was just so unexpected. it was sudden, silent, and youre just left alone to question _why_
this game perfectly uses gore as a horror technique and its fantastic.

If I remember correctly I chuckled at the gang jumping basil and killing him I believe at that point I just predicted it would happen and laughed at my own prediction being correct

I’m still so confused on why Basil was just so hated in sunny’s black space? Like, was he trying to put the blame for everything on Basil? He just kept killing Basil over and over again. I still just never understood this part.
I think it's because Blackspace is where all of Sunny's repressed memories are locked away, which also explains why Basil is trapped in Blackspace, since Basil knows the truth of Mari's death and is trying to expose it. Omori is just trying to silence Basil and stop him from saying anything about the truth.
Basil is the connection between his made up fantasy world and reality. Killing Basil every time he mentions anything (repressing the memory) is why it happens.
Because Basil knows the truth in reality, Sunny seems unable to keep pretending with Basil in Headspace for very long without being reminded of the things he wants to forget... The others are oblivious to what happened, so they can stay in Headspace with him for as long as he wants them to without reminding Sunny.
I saw a theory that Omori repeatedly killing Basil was possibly his grudge against him for the "fake suicide" idea

One thing i always wondered. In THIS scene, did Basil hav a wacky accident like the other times he died, or did OMORI just straight up murder him? I mean he kinda already did bc its in his dream world, but y’know what i mean.
Two friends go on a raft under a bridge. When they emerge, only one is alive, the other decapitated. What do you think is more likely: some freak accident, or the one murdering the other? You tell me.
@@joyflameball heheh, prolly straight-up murder tbh. But it’s just interesting that the raft is the only Basil death that Omori HIMSELF directly kills him. The others he was just a bystander for. Later he murders him at the Throne of Red Hands, but that’s sorta different.
@@peachy_keen8498 he probably doesn’t want sunny to know he’s the one causing basil to die quite yet. so he did it when sunny (the player) couldn’t see him, versus the other times when he made it look like some bizarre accident so he himself wouldn’t scare sunny.
i like to imagine the dream/omori just unloaded his head and it killed him, like his head just glitches off

@@user-jv5qm7rq4i no, I mean Sunny's psyche, as in the whole machine, including both Omori, Headspace, Black Space, and White Space. All of it is Sunny's brain trying to protect itself from trauma and pain.
@@user-jv5qm7rq4i Though I guess in this particular instance I mean Sunny's psyche (as in the machine, Sunny's subconscious mind, which is sometimes represented with Omori) silencing Basil before Sunny (his conscious mind within the dream, currently experiencing headspace through the persona of Omori) remembers the truth.
It's kinda like subconscious version when you're daydreaming and something won't go right (like, for example, if someone just starts randomly spinning and you can't make them stop) and you try to stamp it out of your mind, getting increasingly frustrated about it.
Ah yes, the part of the game that broke me. I really wish I could have given Basil a hug after all this.

These rooms are easy to miss. The red door that continues the story opens before you have been to all rooms. It's possible you went there first chance and skipped all these scenes.

maybe not in the sense some of the others were, but this is the one that unsettled me a lot cause its almost too obvious in this that omori is the one killing basil to shut him up.
in the others, it was spiders, our friends, or just seemingly randomly that our friend died after trying to tell us something
in the raft however, you dont get so see what kills basil
omori and basil go into a dark place, and omori comes out alive, basil doesn't
theres only really one thing you can assume happened
plus the way you can ride the raft after the fact is just fucking so creepy to me. this was one of my favorite basil deaths in black space

I feel like his constant deaths in black space represent omori/sunny and their desperation/frustration with basil finding out the truth every time in every headspace reset and it shows basil being violently silenced from spilling the beans over and over and over again like a part of sunny doesn't want the truth but he knows it's coming and his subconscious mind that is suppressing the truth is trying to silence it via basilcide. Like damn
Hear me out.. 1 Year later and I'm commenting this.. But I don''t think SUNNY hates BASIL. I think all these deaths are to represent intrusive thoughts; How, when you're emotionally unwell, you might do extremely aggressive things to the people you love in your mind, and it generally freaks you out. (Though SUNNY actually did show a bit of "assholery" when leaving BASIL to deal with his stuff in the bathroom that one time.. But he kind of.. Had his reasons. Still think it was stupid of him though).

this game is so interesting, because although id like to think im pretty desensitized to a lot of horror, almost everything in this game, especially black space, horrified me.
in every single one of these rooms, id gasp and look away from the screen because it somehow never got predictable, and it _always_ caught me off guard. its just so disturbing. i mean hell, ive played this game multiple times now, and i _still_ refuse to look at the screen everytime omori stabs himself. i love that so much. this is true horror.
After watching 4 gameplays of Omori I had two ideas in mind of these deaths
It's either Omori thinks Basil is easy to hurt
Or that it's his way of blaming Basil for Mari's death so he can repress the truth and his memories
