Funny story, i start my rolex journey from two tone daytona in 2014 with an AD that i have no "history". Came back to the same AD with that watch extremely beaten up and ask if he can polish it for me. And he offer me another white gold daytona with blue dial.
Fast forward in mid 2020 when everything was hell, i got a call from that dealer asking if i m in the market for any watch. He said the business was very bad. I ended up purchasing 4sky, 1meteorite daytona. He asked about my dream watch and i told him the rainbow daytona. Never heard anything back from him tho 😂
Having to create a spend history on watches or jewelry you dont want, just to maybe get a call on the watch you actually want makes no sense. Too many people have fallen into the trap of creating a spend history only to find out they never get a call on the watch they want....
Love the new video Charlie, you are definitely right about the stainless Daytona, got no chance of getting one from a AD, and you know i got a couple of nice pieces....
Just purchased this exact configuration last week, personal grail piece…
Classic design with modern touches with the jubilee and green accents. Can’t be beat👌🏽
Congratulations mate, stunning model - enjoy! 👍
Love it! See you next week Charlie! 🙌🏾
Best I can tell this is the way things are working. You buy the watch from the AD you pay cost plus taxes. The grey market dealer offers you 5% below retail or cost minus the taxes so your net is 10-15% in the red and their margin is the same. So relatively stable situation and the end consumer decides if the government or the grey market dealer gets your 10% vig. So enjoy your watch as a luxury product or put your money into money market funds as an investment. Any other investment discussion involving watches is just a waste of breath. Unless the federal government decides to flood the economic environment with trillions of dollars again or the crypto bubble reconstitutes. Just my humble opinion of course. 😊
Bingo. Only you’ll be offered a lot less than 5% under retail and their margin is closer to 25%
Very good update - sharing market prices is a genuine gift to your viewers!
You’re very welcome! So glad you like them 👌🏻
Might be same watches, but still enjoyable to watch. Thumbs up!
Awesome video! Brief question, how hard for your AD to offer you a GMT sprite ?
Hello, Should i buy a DateJust 41 in mint green if it is not flutted ? Is it above retail ?
walked into my closest AD and they had 3 watches aviable that day. two 41mm two tones DJ gold and rose. then a two tone seadweller. Seems like its getting better. And yes I left with one of them
Ooh very nice! Which did you go for?
The two tones sell for under retail to grey market dealers typically thats why
You’ve got to be brave to pay 50% over retail 😬 the demand is dropping off across the entire watch industry.
depends on models, buy smart always !
People dumb
They just wanna show off lolol
Steel is still holding value, in Daytonas. Of course I wouldn’t buy a 116500 now
But if you want it, and have the money. Buy it.
Even though I enjoy the content, I'm dismayed by people like yourself who play a role in the luxury watch market that makes it harder for most people to get the watch they want from an AD in a reasonable amount of time.
Necessary evil I guess
@@ginyamaguchi1421 is it really? It’s one piece in this whole machine of the AD’s selling to big spenders and flippers. It’s essentially creating a black market.
Always enjoy your Sunday updates Charlie, with pricing and recommendations👍
How soon after purchasing your first precious metal DJ or Lady DJ should you be asking your AD for a sports steel model? What is the usual etiquette around waiting before requesting it? Thanks
I asked my Boutique for 3 Rolex in one go. Got my Explorer ll white dial within 3 months. Next is the Batman. Went and saw the owner last week and mentioned again. He said next year.
Appreciate your honesty and effort. Thank you....👍
Not a problem at all mate, thank you for watching I appreciate it 🙏
New Daytona, very new, like last Saturday new. How much will it go for on the gray market?
Enjoyable video as usual.
“The boom time is over,” Fella, says James Wang, a seller of second-hand luxury watches in the eastern city of Nanjing. “We are entering a correction period that could last for a long time.”
I think we’ve hit the new “floor”. I don’t think prices will sky rocket 🚀 by end of year, I dunno if things will drop much lower. This is the new baseline.
@@chadbailey7038 buy the dip
Yet talking with 4 Rolex Asia Ad's this month no drop off at all in demand or waiting lists on anything. Every model is now basically classified as a hot model. Might be different in the West as their phoney debt built government economies implode but that's not Asia.
Holding high prices for too long is no longer affordable, the market will correct over the next two years with premiums increasing only for select models.
6K mark up on the kermit=joker. wait for your AD, supply is relatively plenty
Hi Charlie, what would you recommend for Date-just 41mm (half gold)? Bezel, strap & color of the dial. Thanks in advance.
Fluted jubilee is a must, full steel blue or mint dial.
Bimetal the Wimbledon looks great!
You mention cracked bezels. Rolex Service Centre in London state that they have not seen any damaged ceramic bezels on the Daytona. I have worn ceramic since 2007 with no issues. It must depend upon how much care one affords their watch.
He said the GMT had a cracked bezel, not a Daytona?
What are the chances of getting a black sky-dweller as my first Rolex purchase please? Also would the RLX virtually be near impossible to secure through an AD? Rough timeframes would be great also. Thank you.
Nice Video charlie.
The stainless steel white dial is such a stunner 😮🤙
Isn’t it just! Great watch. Thank you for watching, appreciate it mate! 👍

Great vid Charlie, learning a lot from watching 👍
Thanks Gaz, really appreciate that, glad you are taking something away 🙏
I had no idea I might be able to get a Starbucks as my second Rolex!! That's amazing, thanks Charlie!
Not a problem Ash! Thank you for watching 👌🏻
Or the biggest lie, lol
@@anantkapur130 Doubtful on second purchase. This watch is very rare: even compared to the black bezel Sub Date; by around 4:1.
How do prices change on watches that are the same model just different years. I’m looking to buying my first Rolex an a yacht master ii is my dream watch. What makes the prices so different from 2023 an 2019? Is it worth buying a new one or just get 2019 thanks.
When you purchase a 2023 from the grey dealer, they will tell you it means a lot and you have to pay more. When you want to sell a 2023 to the grey dealers, they will tell you it’s just the same watch, and is worth the same as a 2019.
Condition and accessories is everything. Year is often not important unless someone can squeeze a buck from you. Granted there is models where there are changes that makes different generations more valuable. But
the 126622 is same same… no difference 2019 - 2023
Great watch as always Charlie 👍
Thank you Kevin, glad you liked this one! 🙏
Charlie would love some advice on building and maintaining a relationship with the AD. Cheers
Be enthusiastic, knowledgeable, prove you wear your watch[es], and show loyalty to the store.
I have a question, i had a Rolex oyster perpetual blue was gave by my uncle on my birthday. I’ve never been in any AD store. Do I have any chance to ask the submariner if I wear it when I’m at the store?Thank you.
It might help a little, but if you aren’t already in their system on the list, that is the key.
Thank you so much.I’ll try.
I was able to obtain a no date sub from my AD as a first purchase. Should I request a OP or datejust next in order to work toward securing a GMT Master II?
Before CZcams, we made up our own minds based upon what we liked.
Why should purchasing a watch the AD could sell faster than he got it through the door, put you in a place for something special?
You want to show your AD you are truly into horology..? Purchase something you truly want that isn’t a Rolex.
@@BufanMuayThai because the AD is a stand- alone Rolex boutique that only sells Rolex. Also because the AD keeps telling me it's very hard to get me a GMT after getting a sub and basically saying it'd help to buy non ss professional models

i would like to see a video talking about Day-Date 40mm. I really want to buy it. is too hard to get?
I will see what I can do, the market has softened on the Day-Date, so should be easier than it used to be.
I do like the Rolex Starbucks but do you wish they’d do a Rolex Costa or a Rolex Gregg’s?
Haha Orange and Blue Greggs GMT would be a hit! 🤣
these videos are basically the same watches every video
Don’t rolex only make like ten watches though lol
He only stocks the Rolex range people want to buy …. What else would you expect to see 🙄
if you bored of the videos then go watch something else
But I learn each time a video comes out.
Enjoyed the video !!
I turned down the Explorer 2 from Goldsmiths yesterday.
Also, I turned down a Deep Sea a few months ago.
I'm no longer interested in the games!
Good on you! Only get what you’ve asked for!
@dmaul5190 spending £8100 on a watch that I don't want would have been silly. I could have probably made £500 but I'd rather let someone have it who actually wants it.
Turning them down might actually go against you. They want you to spend to get up the list. Explorer ll you would make good money on.
@dmaul5190 because I'm no longer interested in my spending history as I don't plan on registering interest in any more Rolex watches. I've owned multiple models over the years. I tend to keep them for 2-3 years, then move them on. I'd rather just buy on the grey market & if I lose a small percentage on the resale, that's OK.
I can't talk for everyone, but I don't want to wait years or even months for something I really want!
I'm sitting there in the AD listening to the salesperson talk as if they are doing my favour, it's just not for me anymore.
I remember back in 2015, I purchased my 2 tone Daytona with a 10% discount. They were the days, lol!
@@KC14109 Charlie did not want my black Explorer II.
Rolex have told me the red is very hard to produce which is the reason for a reduction in production. Contrary to the video, cracked bezels is not the issue, we al know ceramic can crack if treated severely that is why the bezel on the Explorer II remains in steel .
LMAO....Rolex rang you up and told you that did they😂
London and two Ads informed me. I have kept in touch with Rolex since 1975, I visited Rolex HQ twice and am a recipient of a Rolex Award for Enterprise.
@@dmaul5190 The staff at Rolex, London and two ADs.
@@HS-ed3dz I approached them, like I did when I have received tours in 20 Rolex centres worldwide. I have toured Geneva HQ twice since 1975.
Agreed. And this isn’t even a big secret. This “red” problem for Rolex, was made very public in 2018 during BaselWorld, when Hublot managed to do what Rolex couldn’t, and made a ceramic bright red that much closer than the Rolex red, resembled the old aluminium Pepsi/Coke bezel.
Remember the giant Hublot screen on the Hublot exhibition during BaselWorld 2018 facing the Rolex exhibition? That big screen didn’t flash the new Hublot Red Magic in the face of Rolex by accident😂
What is the average wait time to request a watch after your first? As soon as you put on the datejust at the AD.. "Oh by the way, I'd like to request a two tone GMT please"
@@IridiumZero How long do you have to wait before requesting another watch?
@@neilrodin8654depends on your AD. One of the AD’s I use don’t count Rolex purchase as spending history at all except for a few models like diamond TT Date-just and precious metal 28mm models.
You don't. It's all bullshit.
I bought a Skydweller a few years ago after a 3 month wait, sold it back to the same AD after a few years on the understanding they'd get me an Explorer and it took a week.
I've just sold the Explorer back to the same AD and taken a Grand Seiko instead (as I'm sick of how Rolex is manipulating the market).
I've only had the GS for 2 weeks but it's an amazing watch to wear.
I just got my first watch from my AD a GMT sprite on oyster which is the one I wanted after a year and a half wait with zero purchase history. He told me to come in this week to discuss my next watches, would it be ridiculous to ask for a black dial SS Daytona ceramic and the new Titanium YM42 seeing how he didn’t make me jump hoops for the GMT sprite.
Congratulations mate! Really great watch 👌🏻
It might be, however you don’t know if you don’t ask so you never know, see what they say!
Love the videos, watch every week but I’m call bs on 6-12 months for a Starbucks with only a datejust spend history. I got a sub date 8 months after a datejust so that’s feasible but Starbucks are much more difficult to attain
Thank you appreciate it!

Another thing, and I believe this goes for most AD’s now, Rolex purchased doesn’t affect your chance of getting an allocation for a different Rolex.
The three AD’s I use are all like this, Bucherer being one.
This is the three main “advices” I’ve being told the last three years about getting prioritised:
1. Why would you purchasing something they can sell, faster than they get it through the door make you allegeable for something more sought after..? If purchase history is relevant at the AD rest assured that it being something other than Rolex is wort a hundred times more of you purchase something other than Rolex.
2. When the AD (like the ones I use) value passion and interest in horology, higher than spending history, showing this by being interested in other brands than Rolex means a lot. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but as one said to me, if your are truly into watches, are not only into owning Rolex.
3. Attending events relating to horology, which one of my AD’s put in, also is valued much much higher than spending history. In fact this AD was the first to directly tell me, that spending history among jewellery, other brands etc. wouldn’t make a difference at all. Most active in theirs community, which is big, is who is prioritised.
All in all, AD’s are different. But I believe that spending history on Rolex is irrelevant over the board as the AD’s always can move Rolex.
Not sure I agree with you on the Starbucks wait time. Definitely not 6/ 12 months. I have had 3 Rolex models from the same retailer AD since 2019. Date-just 41, Batgirl, and green 41 op. I registered my interest on the Starbucks 2 years and 4 months ago. The Day I picked up the Bat girl. From the info I have from people I no who have got watches retail. Date just 2 years, op 2 years. Batgirl 3years, black sub 2 and half years. Starbucks 3years. And that’s having some sort of relationship with the store.
I am at 7 - 8 mo now
The more I learn about these watches. The less inclined I am to buy one.
I don't do lines and I don't pay cover charges.
Not sure why I would effectively line up to spend my money.
Black Daytona ceramic the best!!!
Such a great watch, good choice! 👍
Anyone ever hear of subtly offering the AD salesperson helping you a cash incentive to prioritize you? Not my comfort zone, but I bet it happens. I wonder how much it would take to move the needle.
I can't even get my AD to offer me an Explorer 1 its been a year since I've been on the list. and thats with £10k purchase history prior to going on the list 🤔
Have you called in recently? Shown up in person? You’re prob not top of mind- squeaky wheel 👍🏾
@@chadbailey7038 problem is the ADs you see aren’t the same people when i pop in. I did email the lady I saw 2 months ago, she didn’t bother to reply to the email 😂
Do you succeed in life otherwise?
@@leonk8113 it would appear not as I can’t secure and entry level piece 😂
You are probably with the wrong AD. It depends on where you are. Either find a new place or ask to see the manager and have a polite chat about how you feel and what your plans are for the future if they can’t help you. An explorer 1 is no that hard to get
I gotta buy 3 watches I don’t want at $30k before the watch I want… ain’t happening, I’m going straight for the gmt and nor lookin back.

I’ve never been asked to buy anything I didn’t want. I think that is a trick they use on idiots to be honest. I contact my AD, I go in, try some on some watches discuss what I’d like and then she registers my interest. In a few weeks and months she lets me know it’s in.
Never been asked to purchase jewellery or anything I don’t want. I use three different AD’s now.
My AD’s has directly told me that what they look for is interest in watches. They priorities this way more than high value spending history. As one directly said… “if you are truly into horology, you will not only be into Rolex” if this means you purchase Omega, Panerai, Tissot, Breguet, JLC, Hublot or what ever, doesn’t matter much. One of my AD’s put’s on events relating to watch making etc. or small shows when they receive new models. Attending these events, some are free, and some you have to pay a small entry fee to attend and you pay for food and beverages, will also put you in a priority position for the watches you want.
Believe what you will, but there are many AD’s that will prioritise passion for the hobby higher than the amount of £$€ you can spend.
Love how people took this as a literal comment. It's not a 100% hit but it happens more often than not.
The only tip, don’t waste your time with an AD - buy from a grey dealer because the premium is cheaper than buying crap watches to get the one you want!
That is sometimes the case yes, especially with the much more desirable pieces 👌🏻
