    Did this video help with your purchase decision. Just a polite note to say that it is customers, not just visitors to our website, open days or asking for advice that means this channel can continue. Thank you

    Hawke just fixed an old pair of Frontier ED's that were damaged while in air travel luggage, with no hassles. Most awesome customer service I've experienced in a long time.

    I recently purchased these, very very good. I can't imagine something better in it's price class. My old pair was a 35 year old zoom Tokina.

      Didn`t see your name on our website orders list ;-( . Unless you came along to our optics weekends before lockdown. Joking aside, yes , you get a lot of spec for the money. Though the Viking Peregrine give them a good run for the money, and give slightly better edge of field sharpness.

    25 years of photography means an obsession with quality optics, and the most annoying feature is CA! Great review, thank you, getting to the important details and differences.

      Nice to meet a like minded optics connoisseur. At our public open days (soon again I hope) , I could see CA where many customers cannot. To go a step further and reduce CA by even more, the new Hawke Frontier APOs go to the next level, plus have reduced pincushion distortion on the edge of field.

    Hello - is the 10x42 version as good as well? How is the blurring at the edges? Does it have a relatively flat field view? And lastly, does it have a tripod screw hole in it? Thanks.

    Hawke Nature-Trek 8×42 binoculars are just as good if not better imo and they’re only €180.

      Compared to the EDx, NTs show more CA, narrower field of view, lower contrast and brightness. But that`s just my opinion. Saying that, they compare well to most sub £200 bins. Thanks for watching

    how do you rate the Frontier EDX vs Viking Peregrine? similar price, viking £30 cheaper but any opinions on which is better? Im leaning for Hawke but have heard great things about Viking

    • @44messier
      @44messier  Před 4 lety +1

      Have not tried the Peregrine, so can not comment. Have looked through the Merlin 8x32 which are stunning. So guessing the Merlin 8x42 will be also a good choice. Just to tease, very soon the EDx will no longer be the highest spec Hawke, with an new Frontier on the way...This will run alongside and not replace the EDx...Already sold one on back order before they have even hit the website...If you like our video, you are welcome to support our channel by purchasing from our website.

    Can I ask, if you had the choice would you purchase hawke edx or Nikon Monarch ?

    How do these compare to the Viking peregrine 8x42?

    • @44messier
      @44messier  Před 3 lety +1

      Quite different binoculars, with either having its advantages. The Hawkes give the wider view and built to withstand use in extreme weather conditions. The Peregrine are lighter, longer eye relief and a flatter field with reduced pincushion distortion. Both available from us. I have done a short video on our channel about the Peregrine 8x42 BTW

      @@44messier I bought some peregrines (not from you) and had to return them as the CA was worse than my £25 practika 10x50! I'm nervous about buying same replacements.

    • @44messier
      @44messier  Před 3 lety

      Guessing at £25 the 10x50s were basic fully coated and BK7 prisms ? . If so , strange though it sounds, basic optics with lower contrast do not show CA as much as premium optics. Obviously they will not give the brightness and contrast of top grade bins. If you are in or around N.Lincs UK you could always come along to our optics weekends when they start and try a few sets

      @@44messier Yes they are coated BK7, but porro design. They are surprisingly bright, the difference between then and the Viking's was not 10 times (equivalent price difference) that's for sure. The FoV is very narrow at 99m, but that's also not surprising. The more I read, the more I like the idea of the Hawke ED X
