Wonderful drone movie. I would love to visit this event one day. Greenland is probably the only country in the world that legally protects a landrace of dogs by not allowing any other dog breed than the Greenland Sled Dog in the so-called sled dog districts (here in Germany, the media have invented the word "Hunde-Äquator" (dog equator) for it 😅). I suppose events like this racing championship are absolutely necessary if you want to keep the young generation interested in the breed and motivate them to keep up the tradition. However, one should have in mind that racing has completely different requirements than hunting and fishing. Remember the dramatic changes that happened to sled dogs in Alaska when their purpose changed from hunting and transport to racing and what kind of dogs we see today at the Iditarod. Hope there will be a future for the Qimmeq breed including both modern times and traditions (and perhaps one day once again living without chains and close to the houses of their owners).
