Introduction:
This is the new Mi Band 7, which still resembles its predecessor, but now has a larger 1.62-inch always-on AMOLED display. However, as impressive as that beautiful and bright display is, can the new Mi Band 7 reliably measure and track your health metrics? Over the last few days I have done different scientific tests on this new Mi Band 7, and I found it seems to be good at some things, but also struggles with some specific measurements. Now, in other videos I have shown that the previous generation, the Mi Band 6, was pretty bad when it was launched, but it improved quite drastically with firmware updates. Let’s see if this new Mi Band 7 also needs some time to get good performance, or if it is already quite good from the start. In this video, I will do some initial scientific testing of the heart rate measurements, sleep tracking, oxygen saturation measurements and step counting of the Mi Band 7. Now, this is a first set of tests, as I just received the device this week, and a full scientific review will follow as I do more detailed tests over the next few weeks.
The first thing you will notice about the new Mi Band is that it’s bigger, with a 1.62-inch Always-on AMOLED display compared to the 1.56-inch display of the Mi Band 6, which according to Xiaomi, increases the viewing area by 25%. However, the pixel density remains the same as before at 326 PPI. Xiaomi also created new icons, new effects, and restyled data visuals to go with this larger display. The Mi Band 7 is said to have 120 sports modes, and now has continuous blood oxygen monitoring and low SpO2 alerts. In addition, the Mi Band 7 also has all-day heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring and also stress monitoring, which as you might know, I am generally quite skeptical of. The Mi Band 7 is water resistant up to 5 atmospheres, similar to the Mi Band 6, which means it can withstand water pressures equivalent to a depth of 50 meters. The main thing that is lacking is that it still doesn’t have built-in GPS. Xiaomi says that the Mi Band 7 has a battery life of 14 days with regular usage, however, I haven’t been able to validate this yet. Also, a lot of the more advanced features, like always on display, continuous SpO2 measurements and stress monitoring will drain the battery faster. It is a bit unclear what the band will sell for in the US and Europe, but it will probably be around 50 dollars. Now, I was able to connect the Mi Band 7 to two different apps on iOS: Mi Fitness and Zepp Life. I ended up using Zepp life, because that was the only way I was able to export my exercises to Strava. I had to do it indirectly though, by logging into the normal Zepp app with the same account. - Věda a technologie

Hope you enjoyed this initial test of the Mi Band 7. A more detailed test will follow in ~ 3 weeks!
Can you please share these correlation graphs on your website as a live visualization/ vector image or a high resolution static image/ PDF? Every time I wish to compare a few I have to go searching through the videos.
It would really help with recall and summarize old and new tests across time.
I think you can analyze the amazfit band 7. They say their results are superior. Thank you for your work.
Thanks for in-depth review, any suggest which test should i compare if i use it for my running?
waiting on the detailed review of the Mi Band 7! Hope it comes soon. :)
Hi Rob!
The new mi band 8 is out. And the manufacturer is different from the past generations. This generation is directly manufactured by Xiaomi, while the past ones were actually by Amazfit.
I tested the accuracy of its optical heart rate sensor. Compared to my chest strap, it’s surprisingly accurate. Even does not have the 5 sec delay which the Apple watches do.
Can you do another comprehensive review of the new Mi band 8?
Other reviewers just read the brochure. THIS is actually a true review. Your efforts are really appreciated.
i agree
I'm mind blown by the amount of effort you put in these reviews

I see Xiaomi just released the Band 7 Pro a few weeks ago and also a firmware update today that they say adds some features and improves others including heartrate, blood oxygen and sleep tracking. Would really like to see you do a full "Scientific Review" of this Band/Smartwatch in the future if you can. Thx for all your hard work!
yes +1 to this, xiaomi do regulary update of mi band firmware, and sometimes its related to mi band sensors accuracy
I think need to wait few months more
I bought it straight away only to discover that it doesn't have the PAI activated. Something I liked on all the mi bands i've had. I returned it. I guess in the future they'll activate it🤔
Yes, this. Please do the review of the Band 7 Pro.
@@steveneustace2331 I have Pai activated on my mi band 5. As you have used miband7 a bit, should I upgrade to it
I wish a review like this existed for every product
Even vibrators? 🤣
This review is absolutely ridiculous and incredible in equal measures. This truly is an amazing and in depth review. With a level of detail and accuracy that I have never seen anyone produce on youtube before. Instant sub and notification bell click.
Thank you so much for this review! Made me go for this product, and I keep coming back to your video. I needed a device that's small on the wrist and tracks fitness data with reasonable precision and can help me gauge my sleep stats (primarily deep sleep) so I can understand how to sleep better. The fact alone that this records steps, distance, heart rate, and deep sleep accurately enough for a layman (coupled with my phone, it also tracks my exercise routes super accurately) is perfect for me in and of itself and this device has so much more to offer in terms of notifications when you reach your steps goal for the day. It tells you when you've been sitting for too long, has guided breathing exercises with vibrations on your wrist to help you calm you down, etc. I also have vibration alarms that remind me to go to sleep at a regular time and help me get up in the morning (without bothering my girlfriend!). Most importantly, this device is discreet and helps me gamify my daily exercise, making me walk more and and make an effort to stress less, and it generally gets me stoked to take better care of myself. I like wearing a classic wrist watch as my main watch, and I can just put this on the opposite wrist and turn off the screen. It's light and sleek enough that I don't even notice it's there. Also, the screen is awesome. Highly recommended!
This is GOLD! Thank you for all the hard work done in all your evaluations. Looking forward to an in depth review of the Mi band 7 Pro.
I really love your video's. The quality between your reviews and others are huge! Thanks so much for all the work❤
I've discovered your channel on last weekend and immediately got addicted to your videos, I love this kind of analysis. Thanks for yout amazing work!
Hi Rob, if you want to know what the stress calculation might be search for 'baevsky stress index'. The info page in the stress widget clearly says that the calculation / measurment is HRV based. The baevsky stress index was developed in the 60's for astronaut health tracking.
I actually tested the mi band 7 against my polar h10 it was only off by 5 points or so for the HRM. Not bad tbh. It's a good fitness tracker I'd highly recommend it.
What activity did you test it with?
Thorough coverage. I have been using an Amazefit Bip for several years and was a bit disappointed to how poor it compared to other similar devices. So this review made it clear that I should consider replacing it. So I will subscribe and make up my mind on the basis of you reviews and my specific needs. One note, I don’t want something like the Apple Watch that requires daily charging. I really like the Amazefit I have because it goes for weeks. Thanks
I have had the Mi-Band 7 for a week and finding it awesome given its price point. Your research helps people understand the watches better. Thank You.
highly undervalued channel. Never have I seen such organized and scientific review for just an random cheap smart watch. Thank you for all your Effort. Continue and I know your gonna grow till half a million at least!
Hi Rob. Just a question. Does it make sense to wait for the final Mi Band 7 review that you announced months ago? Appreciating all your work and efforts.
Love your content. your videos helped me choose a device with much higher confidence. Here's an idea to quantify the accuracy of the GPS data. Export your GPS data on the map as a png (Screen clipping should work), then with a digitizer tool such as webplotdigitizer, get the x and y coordinates of the tracks with a predefined spacing. For the reference, use a predefined route, drawn on the map or imported, then export the coordinates with the same spacing values for both x and y. The difference between two data sets should be straight forward from there. Admittedly, this approach doesn't include the time variable of the acquired locations for the track. But probably, that does not matter much as long as one data point at a stationary location can be confirmed that was acquired within a reasonable time frame. Let me know what you think if you read this comment.
Thanks a lot Rob for this promising outlook. Eagerly waiting for the final report. Also a question if you don't mind: is the xiaumi s1 watch (active) on your radar?
Just found out about this channel and I’m stunned! I wanted a review on the miband but other than that I love statistics and statistical analysis! Great content, keep up the good work
Thanks for making such great reviews!
great video! I'm looking forward to the promised full review, to see if they've corrected the inaccuracies via the update - as well as a scientific review of the MiBand Pro.
Yep, I’m buying this one. God bless you for the great efford you put into these reviews. Looking forward to see your videos in future 🙂
I was waiting for this video . Thank you!
Came across your video while contemplating whether to buy this device - thanks for the effort and for providing such unique insight into how these devices perform for people with different tracking needs!
this is amazing! very informational, thank you very much for this video! Subscribed!
I was so impressed with this review I subscribed. Outstanding job!
I was waiting for this vídeo. Thanks! ✨
Thanks for the review. Do you have any webpage with comparisons and overview of different products?
Glad I found your channel!! The effort involved in the video is insane!!! Subbed!
Great video as always! Looking forward for mi band 7 pro scientific review next! 😄
You seem to love watches (and science) - I think a fun project could be reviewing scales like those from xiaomi. There are part of the self-tracking ecosystem and have so many datapoints to look into. Cheers for all your reviews so far 👍
I have the MI band 5, and love it. I really like the sleep data, like resting heart rate. I love the PAI data also!!
Dude, this is what i have searching for a lot of time, every video who i see is about comparatives of the apple smartwatch, but no one is with medical things, you have won a sub! :)
Thank you for another great video! I'm doing the rounds on your videos trying to find a fitness tracker thats best for my needs since it is my first time buying one. You're certainaly giving me lots of great data to use!
Wow all efforts testing different watch with actual scientific devices is a THUMBS up. Thankyou so much
Hey, loved the scientific approach. Would you be interested in doing the same research for Xiaomi Mi Body Composition Scale 2 tracking accuracy? Or are you narrowing the focus to only watches?
Loved the channel, you really take it serious
Gonna wait for part 2
I got this thanks to your review, it's already had some new updates which is good:) the Spo2 seems very accurate. it also can be left on all day which suits me well. thanks again
Really like the look of this new watch. The screen size is spot on.
Hi! Thank you for the scientific review! I appreciate it sooo much! I had to let you know that the Mi Band 8 is out, but in CN Version for now. Global Version are rumoured to be released by end of 2023 but we'll wait and see. I'll be waiting for your review on that before getting one. Thank you for all this amazing efforts for the reviews 😊✨️👍🏼
Thank you for your vidz. Your visuals are great, speech is well paced and easy to understand.
the amount of work you've put in the video.. respect man!
Your Signal-to-noise ratio is excellent, many thanks.
the review is very helpful!! I hope you do a review on mi band 8 next!
Thanks so much for your detailed and metric based reviews! After watching your review, I decided to buy this as my first activity tracker. I owned the vivosmart 3 for a few days before returning it, does that count?
Anyway, I see that the watch has an option to enable "detailed sleep tracking" requiring extra power. When testing, did you have this option enabled? Did the option even exist in the firmware at the time you tested?
Does the mi band 7 allow the use of its timer app while monitoring workout eg Freestyle training or Indoor fitness at the same time? Great video!
Amazing video, love it!!
Rob, you are my favourite smart watch/activity tracker reviewer. Very friendly and clear explanation. 4 thumbs up 👍👍👍👍
I really appreciate the quality of the review. The results of the heart rate tracking during exercize is worse than I expected. I guess I'll have keep my apple watch 6
Excellent review! With this video, all my doubts of these smartbands has been scientifically answered. Thank you Sir!!!
That's how a review should be made. Awesome content!
Useful as always! Thank you. Please review the new mi watch s1 soon. Can't wait to know if it's any better in accuracy
First time here and I've liked your video literally 1 minute in 👌 Great job man, Amazing & thank you 👏🙌
Very thorough and helpful. Thanks!
Good review, as always. I would like to see your take on PAI health points system one day. It's on this and other xiaomi bands.
Amazing videos, especially with the amount of scientific analysis you do on different products to let the consumer what's the best wearable for them. :D
If you don't mind, could you do an analysis of Pebble Cosmos Luxe SmartWatch? Thank you :)
Estaba esperando este video, muchas gracias
Extraordinary analysis. Many thanks.
Love this channel! Would be great to see if the firmware updates fixed some of the issues. Especially interested if the sleep tracking and outside heartrate improved.
The firmware updates usually only indicate 'fixed bugs' - so that doesn't tell you anything.
Probably a lot of work, so can understand if for such a cheap device it is not worth the effort. Subscribed!
I just stumbled upon your channel and I'm mindblown by the effort and precision of your reviews! I have a request for more Garmin devices to be reviewed, like the cheststraps and Garmin 735xt, I have the watch and I'm considering getting the hr strap for health reasons, I hope you can make it happen! You have a new subscriber
I was waiting for your this video. Thank you.
Great review as always 👍. When can we expect a review of Huawei Watch Fit 2 ? 😁
You helped me to decide and buy the band, I know it's not perfect or the most accurate but for the price and my goals, it's good enough, thank for your input, cheers from Ecuador!
Hi Rob, Excellent video! What is the next werable to test?
Hey there and admiration for your efforts! From all budget smart bands/watches, do you think that one has the best sleep tracking? Which one you will recommend for sleep tracking (from the budget ones)?
Finally a review with acual information that is helpful. Normaly reviewers just read the specs
Thank you man. Really very detailed and trustful review. Waiting for mi band 7 pro. And best sleep tracker
Very detailed. Very interesting. One intractable problem I have experienced since the mi band 5 is that whenever I swim it counts steps! If I swim for one hour it will track the swim quite accurately but also will count about 5,000 steps.
I also get steps when driving :)
@@dynboots
That’s cheating 😂
Thanks for the review. Could you please include to the next video a heart rate measurement accuracy after running?
This is the only review i want to watch. Thanks! amazing
I have same issues with heart rate tracking. I do low impact cardio, elliptical and rowing. It's very good at updating regularly during rowing. But with the elliptical, it just doesn't update often enough half the time.
You are one the best gadget reviewer I have ever seen in you tube. Very convincing with lots of measurement data.
Hi Rob, I really like how you rate with stars for features. It's easy for viewers
Hi ROB !!! Could you please post the result of scientific tests after updates that have been sent for the recent firmware updates .
Also, pls indicate clearly as to where its standing in the graph from worst to best smart bands.
there are 2 things I like about mi band over huawei band 6: higher screen dpi, stronger vibrator and better compatible with iphone (music control and some small stubs)
Great review, very useful. Thank you.
Glad someone is reviewing the accuracy. This is the real question.
I woud like to express Gratitude for u to making this review.
Love your work, thanks! Can you do one Amazfit Band 7 review?
Wanted so much for this review, i hope xiaomi fixes the HR issues with firmware updates. Just a question, can you imagine why most watches struggles specifically with the rem sleep of the sleep tracking?
I would say it's because REM sleep would be hard to quantify based on a wrist-worn health tracker. REM is characterised by brain waves, something a wrist-worn tracker can't track. REM sleep might affect heart rate or HRV but the effect is probably similar to deep or light sleep, which is why fitness trackers tend to get them mixed up. Maybe something else like skin temperature or something changes during REM, which could be tracked, but that would require the tracker to have a skin temp sensor which I don't know if many actually have. Sucks because I would like to track my sleep stages, that headband Rob wears looks like a good investment for those who want to track their sleep stages.
@@Spacemonkeymojo I think the Galaxy Watch5 will have a temperature sensor.
Notice that MiBand 6 was much better than Band 7 for HR. The 7 does need improvements in firmware to match algorithms with specifics of the sensor, it seems.

Another great video! Do you have any plans to test the new Garmin Forerunner 255? Your Garmin videos seem to do well with views, and this device generated a lot of excitement because it includes a lot of the higher-end functions for $350 (plus the inclusion of the S model for smaller wrists). Thank you for your dedication to this channel :)
The Mi Band 7 Pro was just announced the other day...please test when available.
Thank you Rob. If possible, could you do a review of the sleep tracking for Garmin Fenix 7 watches after their latest update please?
Anyways great work!
Your reviews are one of the best out there. I hope you can also do a review of the new mi band 7 pro and xiaomi watch s1 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Excited for the full review
Thanks Rob!
Any plans for importing and reviewing the Huawei Watch D? I bet you are definitely interested!
I don't know when mi band 7 full review will come, but waiting for it, to see how the band is improved. Already got 3 updates, probably will get couple more. Hope it will be better and bang for the 💰🤑
Man this is some in depth research. 👏👏
Thanks for excellent content! Would love a review of the new Oppo band 2.
Thanks. Which is the best sleep tracker you would recommend?
nice review, btw do you use python to graph those data?
Good video! I was waiting for this one! Can you please review Apple Watch 7 with WatchOS 9? I want to see if Apple is very precise regarding sleep stages
I'm solely interested in a band/watch for usage with Sleep As Android - is there any difference in how well it is integrated with different models?
Which one works best/most precise?
Wow awesome. Thats some dedication bravo.
Wow! This is remarkable content quality.
Looking forward to new videos!
Hey,
a Video about the accuracy of the Apple Watch’s(6/7) rest HR and walking HR, for instance compared to Oura or other wearables would be very helpful!
I have a question. I have been using my Apple watch 5 for a long time, and I just bought this new MI 7. One thing that I cannot figure out is : When I walk on the treadmill the MI 7 doesn’t count the distance without me swinging my arm ? Both my Iwatch and my Zeblaze Startos can do that. I have tried different modes ( indoor walk, treadmill ) but I don’t get a count that’s anywhere near correct? Do you know why that is ? Thanks for a good review 😃😃😃
Waited for this review! ❤️
