I do a lot of building maintenance & renovations for property companies.
The last couple years I use my M12 stuff 80% of the time now. The fuel models have come far enough where its all you need most of the time.
I will say though, my 18V tools are mainly makita, and I've only ever warrantied one in the last 10 years. Since I've been using milwaukee I've warrantied 4 or 5 tools in the last 2-3 years.
Having said that though, their warranty and my local repair center are great. Never waited more then week and always had a brand new tool returned even if the one I took in was abused for years.
Heck, I just took in the M18 Fuel miter saw that I used for 3 years because it wasn't cutting straight (think something fell on the rails) asked for them to look at it and give me a repair quote.
Got a call the following week that my saw was ready. They gave me a brand new one !
That's awesome. I've usually been ok with a tool breaking (within reason), bc it's usually my fault lol. Having a good warranty department to back it up is amazing.
Got the M12 Gen 3 and I’m running the new 2.5 AH HO batteries and it’s a force to be reckoned with, I’d put it against any 18v platform out there confidently.
Also you just cannot beat the size to power ratio when using the Gen 3 alongside those new small 2.5 HO batteries. Best in class by a country mile 👌

I think he is trying to show how far 12v has come. ( I am sure 18v has came just as far) So why carry a bigger drill unless you need to do a bigger job?

I'm on 12v and 20v Dewalt platform. The only thing stopping me from switching over from 12v to m12 is the fat grip, top heavy and many reviews claiming it gets really hot. This is for both the impact and hammer drill.
The fat grip is definitely a deal breaker for a lot of people. For me, the grip size is made up for in compactness. I like to throw my impact in a belt pouch or clip it on. Not having the large battery "square" bottom really minimized the footprint.
I just bought the m12 as my only drills, only because Home Depot is running the special where you get the 5.0 high output battery for free. Returned it and got the kit (impact/drill driver and 2 batteries and charger) for a little over $150
Should be more then enough for my needs at the moment! Stuff around the house and putting together some workbenches and other small wood projects.
That's awesome. I think I said the router is a big one for me. Without that, can't fully switch to 12v
I don't know why so many people are stuck on the one-battery platform BS! There is really no reason to restrict yourself to one cordless tool manufacturer. The reason is that if you are patient you can get great deals on any brand that includes batteries and chargers and even free batteries and chargers with tool purchases and vice versa. Just like you can get free tools when buying a tool sometimes. Get the tools that best suit your job and don't worry about having different brands.
Personally I used to run about 4 different brands. I hated the "charging station" and so many different batteries... it's just a convenience thing for me. I'm 100% positive I can get some tools that are better and cheaper. Even running 12v and 18v is pushing it for me. I'm trying to simplify things.
I didn't know the high output M18 batteries don't improve the old non-fuel tools. That's kind of too bad. Great video!
Thanks! This was news to me as well. Drills/Impacts aren't really the best representation of the batteries either. Saws and grinders would be a much better judge of battery.
The M 18 GEN four is considerably more powerful than the M 12 that being said the M 12 definitely Punches above it’s weight class I have both of them. And I agree 100% buy 18 before 12 for all the obvious reasons you pointed out you’re going to get much more range from an 18 V platform.

I don't do much auto work anymore, but this would be my first tool upgrade lol. Haven't had to work on a vehicle since repacking your own wheel bearings was a thing lol.

So funny you put that Bosch brushed in there. I am upgrading from that line to the m12 fuel. I did really like the Bosch just for size and ergos. Not a powerful beast but was handy and reliable.
I still use it daily. Mainly for drawer slides and final assembly. Completely preference based, but for me, it feels great.
I used my M12 with XC 4.0 batteries and it would cut out while trying to drill with a spade bit or drive large lag screws like this. As soon as I let off the trigger it would work again and again under a load would cut off. I went back to my M18. Heavier yes, but works all the time every time.
I mean... to be fair... it's not what the tool is made for. I just wanted to see if it could do it.
The important thing is comfortable for working... It's my humble opinion 😊

I can fit the m12 driver in my tool pouch and carry the drill on my belt and barely notice they are there. I find myself favoring the impact driver 90% of the time and I buy only impact ready bits making bit change much faster…perfect for facilities maintenance
All agreed. I'm worse than you. I bought two of these impacts so I don't even need to change a bit on certain jobs.
@@mfcbuilds I should add I’m usually climbing ladders with the impact driver on my hip. It has fallen off my hip when my thigh pushed it up and off my belt. Scary for the person below me. Definitely something they could improve upon. Now I put it in my tool pouch for peace of mind.
The M12 tools are no joke, but I think you’ll find a big difference in the gen 4 M18.
I completely agree. But until my old M18 dies, I'll have to wait to justify that purchase.

I was in the market for a good set, and came across the Black Friday deal on the gen 4.
If you select the angle grinder as the fee tool, the gen 4 set comes down to $266 and change in your cart, and the grinder becomes $132 and change. Then you just return the angle grinder for a refund.
After using this M12, I'm not sure that I need the M18. Large fasteners just aren't a part of my work. I would never have said this a few years ago, but 12v has come a long way.

Besides, I don’t have big hands, and the grip on the M12 stuff feels fat to me.

Can't go wrong with that. I gave away my m18 Impact and have been waiting to need something more powerful to buy the newest gen. Fortunately/unfortunately, that's hasn't happened yet.
The M12 3rd Gen is really good and compact however it’s got a couple flaws in my opinion. One of them being the screw mode it’s acts like a low gear impact which is no BUENO if working on delicate equipment. Flaw number two being the chuck it seems to not fully release the bits . I bought two sets and both have the same issues . I’m returning both and sticking to my old second gen 🤷🏻♂️.
I could be completely wrong, but I believe the "screw mode" you are referring to is for driving self-tapping fasteners into metal. Regarding the chuck, that sucks. I bought 2 of these as well and fortunately have not run into any issues YET. My biggest complaint would be the high RPM on light trigger squeeze. Sounds silly, but it makes it difficult to drive 1/2" fasteners without stripping them.
Mine did too but take it apart and remove 2nd washer! For some reason there are 2 but only need 1

Personally most of my tools are dewalt. But when it come to the m12 tools are great because they make the die grinders I use both they are awesome for what I use them for.
Today, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the big tool brands. They all seem to be pretty close now. I just like having the same battery platform for everything.
You really should be doing this with the 5.0 high output. I have them and it factually increases its power by about 25%.
There Is no need for 18 v impact driver if you have the 12v driver and wrench.
I have the 2.5 HO battery and will agree. It is noticeable better. BUT... I don't even think you need it lol. With a normal 2.0 batter this things kills it.
😂 You are trying really hard to be polite to the trolls. Personally don't care about second or 2 per fastener . I care about how long the tool lasts.

I believe your comparing the brushless m18 with the 3rd gen fuel m12. The brushless which I had is not a fuel , or top of the line unit.
The 3rd gen m12s are better than the 2nd obviously, but its the grip width with the 18650's in. The handle that bothers me.
I just picked up the brushless compact kit 3692=22ct. Trying them out over the next week or so to see if they are better than the last gen brushless set I gave to my nephew after years of light to moderate use.
How did you like the new tools? Grip is so subjective. I prefer the fat grip, but can definitely see why others wouldn't.

When comparing old tools to new says volumes. I still have DeWalt 12V first gen and was smoked by Dewalt's 20V 887 model. I now have Milwaukee 12V and can feel the power. Not sure if it can compete with the 18v/20v new models but l think it's not far behind. I am curious how the performance of it is improved with the new 12v 5amp XC battery?
I didn't notice any improvement from 4ah to 5ah. But, the 2.5ah High Output was noticeable.
Just to confirm, I am on both Milwaukee M12 and M18 platforms and fully understand that M18 is required for certain tasks and tools. 😊

Exactly. There are some tools that m18 don’t make sense for. Like their dremel tool, caulk gun, laser level, etc…Dewalt I feel like doesn’t offer that smaller form factor in their 12v lineup so it never made sense to buy into those to me.
please use right tool for the job. use drill to drill... so it dont waste the energy hammering those anvil.... use impact driver for screwing or the job that the drill cannot.
Completely agree. Doing this only as a stress test.
Why do they put a clutch on a drill if it's not also good for screwing? Pre drill holes and screw it in. Done that for years before buying an impact and it's fine. Never had a drill dying on me.
I like the impact but I could definitely live without one.
M12 only flaw is the dam battery clips break
That sucks. Admittedly, I don't use the clips so I haven't run across this. Just curious, have you ever had milwaukee warranty/replace.

Gen 3 for sure. Just checked and HomeDep no longer has the $99 impact sale. But, they do have the impact and drill combo for $199 which is what I also bought.
Milwaukee 12m gen3 is more comparable to Bosch frek gen1 idh182

M12 l recommend because it is so lightweight and just as powerful as old 20v max stuff and the ergonomics are really good a lot better than DeWalt

I try to be as unbiased as possible. I'm more baffled with the amount of people that think I am staging these test or being paid off. Now that is a pleasant fiction.
why are you so stressed out over a silly drill, thats a millasecond faste ror slower. who cares?
For someone who uses it for the small job here and there the size/weight might not matter. For someone who is using this all day...

You are right, a milliseconds or a couple of milliseconds really don't count much to be classified as an inferior tool.
But a few seconds does means alot.
Because sometimes I do 30 - 70 screws or fasteners on a single piece of a project. It adds up quickly.
do those 12 volt still feel like your trying to hold onto a small baseball instead of a drill?
worst feeling drill ive ever tried to hold..... what were they thinking ?
I have not held the previous model, so I can not compare. I will say I'm a decent size guy at 6', 220 so the size feels good to me. But that's completely subjective.
@@mfcbuilds the few ive held at home depot were the worst designed handles ive ever felt....like the handle swallowed a golf ball ffs......
@@nodoubt46able i'm a decent sized guy too and the m12's ergonomics are definitely superior. If you choke up on the handle and use your middle finger for the trigger it feels just so incredibly well balanced. Might be a small hand complaint, all my coworkers think my 3rd gen m12 drill/driver feels incredible.
Glad to know I'm not the only one with an odd grip. I even hold mine upside down with my palm on the heel of the gun.
