    I have just bought a Junzi, and there is no "over-travel" whatsoever. I think they have taken your advice and corrected the issue. A really lovely little knife - and I was concerned about getting it, having watched your video.

      @@quinch66 Cheers for the kind words, it really is a crying shame, such an elegant little knife with a small oversight, then again, perhaps I just got a lemon but either way mine's bad.

    Ouch. I feel your pain. I was shocked by your report. I've had my Junzi since they were first released, and never had this issue in months and months of use. Sorry but being the first I've heard with this problem, I would say you got a lemon, rather than me just getting lucky.
    Having not taken mine apart, looking at yours, it seems the tolerances are tight and don't give much room for error, hence the issue, as not set just right to begin with?
    I agree with you that overall it is overpriced (one could get two HH G10 UKPK's for the price).
    However, I do find it is an excellent quality knife and love mine to bits. The spring on mine is firmer than you describe yours to be too, noticeably stronger than my old Spyderco G10 UKPK and new Urban LW's, but not as firm as my Manly Wasp. I was surprised how stiff it was. Certainly not 'meh'.
    My only nit-pick (other than cost) is the use of screws to hold in the c.f. inlay. I wish they'd just epoxy'd them, as the screws are too conspicuous imo.
    It would bug me too to have yours with that issue, but I just want to set the record straight that they don't all come like that. Thanks for the review..

    • @UKLegalCarryKnives
      @UKLegalCarryKnives  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks for the input, really is appreciated, the spring on mine at least was definitely weaker than either of my ukpks but your spring being stronger might be why yours didn't spine whack itself.

    The term is ‘blade rap’. A lot of traditional French knives, even really expensive ones have it. With them,you’re simply expected to shut them gently. Honestly, that’s what they say! Oh well, that’s just saved me £170!

      Ah! Thank you for enlightening me kind sir, very much appreciated.

    • @Horusfour
      @Horusfour Před 5 lety

      Despite blade rap being integral to some designs (what were they thinking?) this is definitely not the case with the Junzi. It's understandable that a bad experience may sour one's opinion of a brand, but I can't think of any brand that hasn't produced the odd lemon.
      These knives are pretty expensive, but not extraordinarily so compared with other offerings. As avid collectors, any excuse to avoid paying £170 is welcome (there's always another knife to spend it on) but I for one think this is one of the best oho UK legal edc knives available under £200. It is a really well thought out design overall. But then mine didn't have any problems so I would say that. It looked like the reviewer would've agreed too if his hadn't had an issue. I got mine from HH and if it'd had that issue I don't doubt they'd have swapped it for a good one without quibble (hence their great reputation, as UK knife buyers know). So long story long, if the knife appeals and is affordable to you, get it. Knife rap is definitely not inherent to the design (or mine would have it too).

      @@Horusfour To clarify, @Horusfour is accurate with his assumption, I absolutely would have recommended this were it not for the blade rap, it is a lovely knife otherwise and I've 'fixed' mine anyway so I still use it.

  • @croatialives
    @croatialives Před 2 lety +1

    If you just replace the thumbstud with a slightly bigger one you can open it more easily and fix your blade issue

      As ot turns out, they've fixed the blade issue! They've since added a stop pin, I have a video coming out very soon!

  • @chrisdempsey2056

    My Junzi has the blade rap issue you describe, edge folded in the exact same position.
    It's never cut anything other than paper and I was kicking myself for being careless when it was out for a fidget. Turns out it's not my fault.
    Very unfortunate, as you say the knife is pretty much perfect in every other way. Except for the screws on the carbon fibre inlays not being flush. Would have been better if they were epoxied.
    A satisfying clunk on close is mandatory in my book on a knife in this price bracket, it shouldn't be achieved at the expense of the blade.
    Will probably copy your solution (forced bodge) to prevent recurring damage.

    • @UKLegalCarryKnives
      @UKLegalCarryKnives  Před 5 lety +1

      Ah! Glad to hear it wasn't me alone, thanks for letting me know! Perhaps ours were a bad batch? I did the same, just paper day 1 and supposed it was I who dinged the blade, the screw on the inlay doesn't bother me personally but that is of course, entirely opinion. Another idea (credit to chana bhaji) is to put s small oring around one of the thumbstuds.

  • @chanabhaji2726
    @chanabhaji2726 Před 5 lety +2

    Mk2 get it sorted...!
    Maybe an o ring on the thumbstud side you don't use may fettle it. It's good you've picked up on this, it's an issue not mentioned with all the other hype around this one.

    • @UKLegalCarryKnives
      @UKLegalCarryKnives  Před 5 lety

      Hey, not a bad idea! make up that mm gap.

    • @Horusfour
      @Horusfour Před 5 lety +2

      Good idea with the o-ring. But hype? Maybe others aren't talking about this problem because their knives have not had this issue? My Junzi certainly doesn't. Remember, bar this issue (on Al's knife) the review was all positive... My admiration for the Junzi is solely based on imo excellent form and function. Not as slicey as a Manly Wasp, not as light as a Spyderco Urban LW, but it's a pocket jewel of a pocket tool. In fact my only real complaint with the Junzi (as was rightly pointed out) is the price. And Bestech are apparently considering making a budget version soon too (can't come soon enough for me) so that resolves my only complaint as an owner/edc user. I'm obviously a big fan of this knife. But it's differences of opinion that stop things getting boring. Warm regards fellow knifeknuts.
