@@sis4599 oh I don’t know about a sequel tbh. When you get a classic like WDW it’s never good to a sequel film. I think that’s what makes it a classic the fact it was a one off. How many times have they done sequels and it ruins the franchise? It’s like the classic horror “the Lost Boys” that is a 80s classic. They did some sequels and they were absolutely dreadful.
Collins was an actor; he passed SAS selection but was turned down from going further because of his notoriety as an actor. Who Dares Wins is a fictional, choreographed movie. See exploits of Chris Ryan for a real life SAS trooper's story!....without the evocative music which the real guys never had of course.
A movie, much respected, here in Greece, by many of us "old timers"! We also feel honored, that SAS Hero John McAleese (...from whom, this movie, was partially inspired), did his last duties (...before passing away) up here in Thessaloniki / Northern Greece, in 2011! We shall always remember him, as well as L. Collins and Roy Budd, with great admiration and respect!
He was seen as a macho man but he could camp it up like no one in his banter with Martin shaw on the professionals which gave him an unique edge over his fellow actors. He was also a terrific comedy actor as seen on the cuckoo waltz.A childhood hero sadly missed
@@matty6848 He was a territorial in the Parachute Regiment, which just wasn’t known in the industry, and you can see just how stacked Lewis looks in the later series of _CI5: The Professionals_ around the time he’s trying for SAS Selection; but because he was a celebrity he wasn’t allowed past Phase I (the hill phase) because he’d never have got a security clearance.
Played this amongst others as an older recruit in the infantry and the young uns didn't have a clue. Few tours of Iraq an Afghan and years later they know lol Skellen s.a.s
God this theme tune is just so good. I remember watching the film as a kid and it all felt so grown up. The high melody overlaid with the deep rhythmic funk is just outstanding. It sounds like a badass, sexed up Bond theme with equal amounts of flair and grit. Top work by Budd.
Loved the professionals in the 70s, This was Lewis at his best, he actually did sas selection and passed but because of his high profile status could not pursue it. Would have made a fantastic James bond a true legend may he rest in piece.
I remember seeing this film when I was younger shortly after it's release. At the time the S.A.S were pretty much non existent to the public prior to the Iranian Embassy siege. Then this movie came out and I was in awe of this special unit. When I asked people about them all you got was chinese whispers which only added to the mystery. It's a classic!
One the most funkiest, badass action movie theme songs I've ever heard. It's actually what made me remember this movie the most after I saw on tv one night maybe 8 or 10 years ago.
Wow, what an awesome tune this is. It's got the high notes of an intense Bond theme but the bass guitar just gives it some badass vibe. What better to suit our SAS boys.
i get goose bumps everytime i hear this theme , seriously i loved this film as a kid , the theme really stands up like Roys other work , i was talkin about WDW with family and we all laughed at how we'd watch the whole fim for the last 20 mins , why didn't we just fast forward DOH!
This goes to show how music can make a great film even greater and how clever the people who write the music are. Remember a teacher showing us this film bit by bit on a snide vhs recording in our lunch hour at secondary school, think we were charged 50p each for the viewing!. Bit better than todays teachers who would probably wind you in a David Attenborough documentary followed by a drag queen performance!.
Lewis Collins was a real life hard man. Little fact he passed all the selection process of the S.A.S and paratrooper regiments. Not like today namsy Pamsy actors who are treated like totality and have stunt men to do all their stunts.
my grandfather show the Iranian embassy in London back in early 80s and found true inspiration for Maggie boys brave warriors who I also read a few real action books from Chris Ryan and Andy mcnab from the first war in the gulf
Seeing the 18 Cert for this ...recall watching as a 13 year old ?...ah yes bought ticket to "Bambi" and slipped out to to sneak in to this screen room ..good beginning , dull middle, great climax at end with "real SAS" clearing Embassy!
tony doyle, edward woodward, ingrid pitt robert webber, richard widemark, keeneth griffith, john patrick allen and others from the cast are like lewis now deceased.
I went to a wedding at Heatherden Hall at Pinewood Studios were the last part of the film was made. The hall was used as the American Ambassador's residence. The wedding reception was in the oak paneled room where the banquet is held in the film. The exterior of the hall looks virtually the same in 2013. The part of the film where they go through the service entrance is actually the main entrance. A fake entrance was built for the film which goes out onto the front lawns.
The best James Bond we never had
Absolutely. He would of made a brilliant James Bond!
Lewis certainly would have been a great Bond.....maybe the best? Also a shame the sequel to Who Dares
Wins was never made.

"Slowing down a little, Peter? Come on, man - move your arse!"
"THAT was BLOODY ridiculous .....get back up there and do it again"
Said in a fine Scots accent
ALIVE!! Bastards,.......Dead Soldiers!
Alright boys, on me.
"We're going after the girl!"
You can keep your Chuck Norris, this is a proper geezer.A true British hard man.
His character Bodie (The Professionals) was a hero of mine as a kid.
R.I.P Lewis Collins. You were the best. And the way you run down the embassy hall along with your SAS team stills bring some me goose bumps.
On me lads.
Visited Pinewood some years ago. When I realized i stood in that corridore, i got goosebumps...
Slowing down a little Peter?
THE best running scene ever filmed! Take that Chariots of Fire!

35 years later and this still makes my hair stand on end.
Maybe try different/more hair gel?
I don’t use it.
( perhaps that’s why 🤔 )
I wish you had not said that that's just made me feel old 😁
You’re in good company Pegasus👍🏻 😆☹️🤦🏻♂️
@@SANDSCORCHER maybe your bald😂 I’m one of those lucky ones. 44 and still got all my hair and not even grey🙏🏼
This track never gets old !!
Agreed !!
Hubby introduced me to this amongst other stuff !!!
Classic
But i do
Sounds like James Bond
Collins was a paratrooper in the Territorial Army. He passed all the selection tests for the SAS, but was declined because of his celebrity status.

Thank You Young Sir. To KEEPING THE LEGEND ALIVE! 🫡🫡🫡
Much underated film and music score. Absolutely Brilliant.
It really pisses off Guardian readers as well apparently, which is another plus.
Criminally underrated!!!
Sounds like James Bond
@@chriswilson1853I spat out my tofu reading that. I love this film

Real life hard man as well. Did you know he passed all the selection process for the S.A.S and paratrooper regiment?

Roy budd only two words, fucking and genius, this is the coolest piece of film music ever
if you need some stimulation to get your arse out of bed on a morning, try listening to this tune, itll set you up for the day.
So right!!!

The real James Bond. This was released when I was 7. 40 years later I’m still watching it. 👍
Epic movie. Lewis Collins - cool as f**k. Theme tune is bloody brilliant too.
Classic

Roy was an outstanding musician. So underrated. God bless you Lewis.

Loved this as kid and still love it.
R.I.P Lewis Collins .great chap and awesome films
Said it before, will say it again. Roy Budd was a top man as was Lewis. (Still miss you mate).
This movie and flight of the wild geese was my childhood inspiration. RIP Lewis....
brilliant bad-ass waka-waka theme by the composer who was always in the shadow of John Barry. The 3 note "riff" is actually "Who-Dares-Wins"
Still to this day, one of the best sound tracks I've heard.
lewis collins would have been perfect for james bond role
yes agree lewis was great
+Antony Tabbinor He wanted to do james bond insted of Timothy dalton but they said he was too agresive for the role
And it was a Timothy dalton James Bond that got rated 15 xD
i agree, collins was ace, he would of been an awsome 007.
I agree, but then again; I personally think “Peter Skellon” was way better!!
Great kickass theme tune. Roy Budd was one of the best!
I remember as a young fella running round the house humming this tune. Ah what the hell, once more for old times sake. Ready, Steady, Go...........
Awesome tune ! I was 9 when this come out !
Got this on repeat. Can't stop listening to it.
This theme is a 1000000% description of the SAS...LIGHTING SPEED 👍👍👍👍👍

This plays every time I walk into a bar!
He was the best Bond that never was. Shame on Cubby for not recognising the best thing that could have happened to James Bond.
A movie theme that, like the film it comes from,is hugely underrated.
I listened to this as i was preparing for my own mission
Terrific old film this. Love it. Rest in peace Captain Peter Skellen
In 1980s brits sure made some great themes
lndeed we did!
R.I.P lewis, would of made a great "JAMES BOND"😊😊😊
Wayne Herries Crap! I didn't know he died! R.I.P. I agree he should had been James Bond!
+Hugo Danner He is only joking, Lewis is still alive.
He died Nov 27th 2013! Google his name.
So you think pal! Unfortunately he passed away in 2013! Better keep your self updated next time!

On today's date, marked 40 years anniversary of Iranian Embassy Siege...and celebrate it with this theme
Fantastic music for a fabulous film. And yes: Lewis Collins was the best James Bond we never had. What were they thinking?
Only decades later have I realised this may well have been the inspiration to Ozric tentacles - Sploosh!
This one really gets the adrenaline pumping. ROCK ON!
Best Bond we never had, great piece of music
I always like this theme.
Still enjoying in 2022

I've always thought this was a personal anthem to lewis collins growing up. Badass

yep great actor..its v odd that he wasn't a even bigger star
colin moore
he was too good looking for his own good.
he applied for james bond but was found to be too macho
How the fuck can someone be 'too macho' for James Bond? That's like saying someone's too childlike for Disney...
"I'm SAS or nothing!!"
God I love this
I play this tune while playing as SAS on rainbow six siege
Play this song on my funeral or I'm not dying!
Cooler Song!👍👍👍👍
"EPIC FILM".
me at Lidl when they put the reduced meat out.
I think undeniably; he would have been the best Bond of the lot.
