  • I had a plan of exactly how, where and when I was going to enjoy my next landscape photography shoot. There was only one thing that could stop me and that was the weather, but I thoroughly checked the forecast and it all looked good.

What do I think...good on you for coming all that way. Also having versatile gear, as well as having an adaptable approach is vital to all photographers. I know I go out some days and after watching the light change I think I am sure to get some good images then when I get to a suitable location I find the light has gone or things have changed so much there is no shot no matter what composition I try.
That's the thing with photography, being creative you want/need to release that shutter on the perfect shot just as you envisioned it but some days the conditions are against you. Perseverance is key and often just by trying you make your own luck and are able to capture an image you never considered before.
Thanks Tom for another great video.

Yes. I'm watching English photography videos also for learning.
I switch-on the generated subtitles for better understanding. Without subtitles is a more hard for me. Sometime when video is too new, artificial intelligence do not push synthetized subtitles under video, I'm forced to watch without it. It's a challenge.
Thomas has a clear pronouciation and word rate is not extremely fast. So it's good! Thanks you very much.
There can be another idea which I have in my head for some months already. Contribute to translate subtitles. I'm sure it can be a good exercise for learn. But I don't sure if Thomas would be OK for that.

I’ve learnt so much from your videos, more than anything it’s your attitude, you are prepared with kit that can do a wide range of things, and you came away from a potentially disappointing morning with a gorgeous, moody, evocative image that is so much more than a simple landscape. That is what I admire.

This is exactly what happened to me on Sunday. I was hiking up to Snowdon, set off at 4am in the pitch black hoping to get some sunrise light over the lakes to north east of the summit. I was 3/4 of the way there and the clouds were just not behaving as forecast. So I headed back down a bit lower noticing EXACTLY what you noticed about the clouds rolling over the mountains. I took a series of shots (longer exposure than you as the clouds were silky and didn’t have much detail to preserve) and walked away with one of my favourite shots I’ve taken. It’s so refreshing to see you have the same experience!
Always make the journey - never let the doubt stop you.

This is very timely for me. I often watch random motivational videos before early morning runs, but right now, it's 5AM and my first trip to Japan, I've been on 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night, and have walked/hiked 20 miles for 3 days straight.
This helped wake me up and remind myself why we do this. It's so hard to explain why we're such masochist for such little payoff, but it helps to know others feel the same.

Hi Thomas. Since I discovered you on CZcams a few weeks ago (and recently subscribed), I've absolutely enjoyed your videos. I've come into the market for some new gear, and you've taught me a few things that I will try out as I continue to learn. I thank you for your tips. Of course, handy tips can come from a lot of places. What I think makes your videos stand out among so many others I've seen, and what reminds me of the reason I got into landscape photography in the first place, is that your passion for capturing emotion in nature in all its variety, and your appreciation of just being out there, clearly shows in your voice. You don't simply run through a tutorial on how to take "pretty pictures" and what settings to use. You slow down, you are purposeful, and you take time to look at the wide angle view (sorry...bad pun :)) and approach landscape photography as a way to connect with nature, sort of like a meditative experience. It is calming. I lived in the UK briefly. Unfortunately, my time was cut short due to family events, but I'd love to go back and explore the coasts and countryside of the British Isles and attend a Thomas Heaton workshop. Thank you for your excellent videos!

You captured a beautiful photo, Tom. I think all of your photos are beautiful. :) And I want to say thank you, for making these videos. They are inspiring, and informative. They also continue to strengthen my decision to pursue photography as a hobby, and possibly even a career.
I love seeing how you go out to try and get the perfect photo for the day (sometimes trying more than once at a certain location), only to have the weather change and begin to ruin it... And then, there it is! A new photo opportunity, and it turns out wonderful in spite of the weather. Sometimes even because of it, like this time! Occasionally it doesn’t work out that way, but you still try to look on the bright side anyway.
I got a small chance to practice that yesterday. I thought that because it was raining, I wouldn't get to take any photos like I had hoped. Instead, I got a photo of rain drops on clover leaves! I happened to notice them, because I’m learning to keep my eyes and mind open... Thanks to your videos, I'm beginning to see more opportunities than I would have before.
So once again… Thank you very much for your videos. I hope to see more in the future. :)
