Today we are testing a older Lenovo Legion Y520 that i got with a broken screen.
I've fixed it, so let's test some games!
The following componants are used in these tests : ( Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKBN )
- Intel Core i5-7300HQ @ 3,1 Ghz (4 Cores / 4 Threads)
- Nvidia GTX 1050 4GB GDDR5
- 16GB DDR4 RAM 2400 Mhz (2x8GB)

You will get around 30-40 fps on medium settings

This here is an example of 10 year old hardware that can run recent(ish) games at decent(ish) frame rates. If you have no other options and want a gaming machine on the low end that costs quite low this is a solid option
still good for e sport titles and maybe story games if your fine with 40fps

You should test "Highfleet" and "Victoria 3" on this laptop too.

Hi I'm thinking about buying the same style laptop but there is an Rx560 Is there any big difference between Gtx 1050 and Rx560? i would use it for gaming of course.
Hi, the GTX 1050 should be around 5% faster according to some websites. :-)

I never had a RX 560 in a laptop, i've checked some website where it was mentioned it should be not that much of a difference. Does it have 2GB or 4GB of VRAM?
Do you also installed the latest drivers?
i have ddr4 dual with 16gb i have two ssd, its says something like Intel(R) HD graphics 630 instead of the amd 560 im still learning about the builds but i feel like its something not okay and i probably messed up but thank you for your reply :)
also my right side of the laptop is usually a bit then later on hot the other side remains cold
i opened dxdiag and its says the first monitor is the intel the second is the rx560 its says

Yo bro nice video. Also I am thinking of buying this very same laptop and because i don't want any sort of problems to occur while playing games. Would you suggest me to store my games in the hdd or nvme? Also bro how can I lock my fps?
Hi, newer games i would install on the nvme or normal SSD, since newer games are not always supporting HDD anymore.
Other lightful games (GTA V etc.) you can also install on your HDD if you are ok with having a little bit of waiting time. :-)

Hi, thanks! FSR is an upscaling method from AMD.
So the game is "running" in 1080p, but the resolution internally is lower depending on the setting. :-)
@@Beisepimp I see. well, if that's the case I'm already aware of it it's just that I got confused because I thought FSR is for AMDs only and you're using a GTX 1050 Ti. Is it possible for FSR to work on that processor?

This is a setting in the game itself. So you can always activate it if the game supports it.

Which preset did you use in gta 5?
You can see the settings , i've choosed always in the first seconds of each game.
GTA V was running on "very high" .
I have this but with 1060 6gb I think might be 4gb I need to double check could I run warzone ?
If you have the same CPU , i would say it will stutter, but i've not tested it, so i can not give you a clear answer sorry!
i ve been struggling to run PUBG on the very same laptop. It is stuttering constantly making it impossible to play. any tips? Many other games i ve tried are running okey but PUBG
I have never played PUBG, so i can not give that many advice.
Are other battle royal games also running fine on your laptop?
@@Beisepimp yes. I tried apex and it worked fine on low specs. I'm not into quality... I just want to play it smoothly. I understand that y520 specs are quite outdated

Hi, i did nothing special.
The laptop was cleaned for fresh thermalpaste and not many background programs. 🙂

Hello, people of the Internet, I'm writing this comment from a Lenovo Legion Y520!
Overall, very decent laptop! Still performs well even in recent games (except for Alan Wake 2 aka the worst-optimized crap ever). Mine has the Core i7-7700HQ and GTX 1050 4 GB. It originally came with 8 GB RAM and 1 TB HDD, no SSD, but it got upgraded to 16 GB RAM + additional 256 GB SSD for my birthday last year. Build quality is good too! Sadly, it's battery is practically dead nowadays and it's network card is broken so I have to use a LAN cable to connect to the Net. Still, it's a fast laptop even in 2024!

Alan Wake 2 uses mesh shaders, the GTX 1050 does not have these, so it's normal that the performance is crap. :D

Hi, I have the same specs cpu, gpu, ssd, and ram but valorant barely reaches 120 stable fps, and i have frame drops all the time, idk whats the problem:((

I am facing the same issue, GTA V hardly gets 60 FPS, framedrops occur all the time
Cpu is bottlenecking the gpu, this is why you get fps drops all the time
Do it better than asus gl553 with same config.
Playing on a external monitor will affect perfomance badly right?
Only if you are using a different resolution . :-)

@@zeacons957 Strange, if your monitor in your laptop is also running at 1080p, it should be the same.
So I have the exact same laptop and I only changed my standard nvme ssd to a very fast crucial nvme ssd and a ssd. But since like idk 4-5months when I did after a driver update my laptop stutters for everything. I can’t play a game and have discord opened. And when I play something the game starts stuttering for several seconds and the sound too. Then it starts working slowly again and then idk maybe 10mins after it does it again.

I assume your Crucial SSD have some problems.
@@Beisepimp Both SSD´s are from different companys. And I got the E-Sport Games on my fast Crucial SSD and the other games on my normal SSD. But still it lags on both, my whole pc stutters for some seconds. I bought more RAM now. Maybe it could be that a fan is broken? Plus idk why but when my pc starts it always shows me a screen where it says which installed Windows I want to use. So it says Windows 5 and Windows 10, I think I downloaded it twice.
@@kiwi3803 Something with your Windows installation seems off, but when you have a broken fan i assume you get high temperatures?
@@Beisepimp I have 60 or max 78 I have no clue if it is bad for the CPU that I have. I got an i5-7300HQ maybe 78 is to much?

What program you use for monitoring?

It depends on the recording software and settings.
I never tested this CPU with recording, but it should work fine in 1080p. 🙂

As mentioned, MSi Afterburner did not want to read that correctly somehow.

I hvae this y520 laptop.... Im switched from 128gb nvme ssd to 2tbnvme ssd and from 1tb hdd to 1tb ssd and from 8 gb ram to 32gb ram. Baldurgate3 Runs with 30 fps optimized good.

Since, i've never had a 1060 max q i can not give a clear answer. It should be far better than this GTX 1050.
But since you have a 6GB GPU and an i7 , you should run these e-sports titles very well in 2024. :-)
I have the exact same specs just with a 1060 6gb instead of the 1050 4gb I only get 10-20 fps more than u in most games the 1050 is still a decently good graphics card

FiveM on the same config is hit or miss depeneds on the server optimisation i played on a 100-200 player server on a graphics mod and still had stutters the cpu is weak and for fiveM the cpu is more important

@@Beisepimp yeah :(, i think i fixed it tho. for some reason i had to go into bios and change some settings to let me change the laptop use it’s gpu instead of it’s integrated graphics

@@Beisepimp yep i have an ssd in it and apex runned great the first seasons but now it just tears apart, same in fortnite, cant get stable 60 fps on everything low and even lower Res. I thought its due to all this new updates over the years. Probably CPU bottleneck overall same as in WoW when you encounter many other players the cpu demand rises

Warzone is very CPU intensiv, so i assume a big bottleneck.
