BLACK: What Modern Combat Looked Like Before COD4

The video game BLACK is a game that features more colors than just black, such as brown, green, and grey, so if you are looking for a game that is just a black screen with the occasional gunshot sound then I'm afraid you'll have to look somewhere else.

This game is still my gold standard for how guns should sound in games. Every single one sounds beefy and powerful and nothing like the peashooters we get in some other games.
Edit: This comment is way more divisive than I thought so I should've been more specific. Im not talking about realism or quality, I'm talking fun and over the top action (which is what Black is). If I want realistic ill go play Arma or Insurgency or something, but that's not what we play games like Black for (a ridiculous over the top action movie experience).

In one year, COD 4 sold over 7 million (in 2007). Same with Halo 3. There's no nostalgia for Black because no one really played it outside the occasional rental. There isn't really any copyright issue: the intellectual property issues with using firearms are mostly trademark issues related to their names, with the only ones related to designs, IIRC, being issues of HK having a trademarked logo which included the outline of an MP5 and Glock having one with a Glock 17, which some games companies worried might mean they could argue trademark infringement for depicting those weapons in games. Mostly it's just because a lot of FPS devs are into Airsoft, and aren't aware of which the signs are that something is an airsoft gun rather than a real one.

Pure nostalgia, I hope the game gets a comeback on PC or PS-4/5. Good old days, the best FPS for the PlayStation 2...especially the gun/explosion sounds of the grenades and the RPG are just epic. And the Legendary Soundtrack is pure love too! Since I haven't been in contact with my father for 2 years, "the background isn't that important", I bought a used PS-2 in very good condition and the game was in black condition, new and in the original packaging, and I play almost every evening. I just love this game. Especially the DC-3 Elite pistol that you have available for the 1st mission is a very, very good pistol...2 to 3 shots and the enemy is dead, it's similar to the Desert Eagle and the Beretta M9 and the sound from the DC- 3 Elite is awesome.

Game graphically and artistically looks fantastic for a PS2/Xbox game

Gulag and Bridge were simultaneously the most challenging and fun levels of FPS I've ever played

I remember my dad watched me play this.
Game after getting it. I remember loving the AK so much. That when we had to write a Letter to Santa.
    (This was kindergarten 2005)
I wrote that I wanted a AK47 and a UZI. And got in trouble lmaoo

One of the best fps game ever and it was ahead of its time. Wish they could do a remastered version of it to days platforms without any bad changes

Black is still the best CoD tribute to golden eye game ever.

Being able to listen to your own xbox music while playing the game was the best part.
