He was a gun. Very underrated. His ability to burst out of stoppage and break tackles was up there with your Dangers and Dustys.
Also, that Natanui, Shuey, Kennedy combo from the centre bounce was beautiful to watch.

Is this reminiscing about the good times before we get destroyed?

When I really consider it, I think he is probably my favourite eagle also. He offered so much to the club in terms of quality, impact and entertainment, but my favourite Shuey moments were always when watching him in person. A few times I had a seat on the bottom level of optus approximately where the 50m mark meets the boundary, watching him pick up the ball and effortlessly thread low fast kicks to targets inside 50 amongst the chaos and traffic really gave me an appreciation of his technical brilliance and vision.

Boots along with Lecca were my two favourite Eagles for a long time, Shuey was absolutely elite and probably didnt get the recognition he deserves from interstate. Shame about his soft tissue injuries, would have been great to have him play with the young boys. Im hoping Hewett can take over soon as a similar sort of explosive player in the midfield that we really lack at the moment.
Great vid, love the idea of a series of these types of vids

Cripes this was a great Video.
    Love Shuey.
Most of the time I’m convinced they’re trying to duck under or shrug the tackle rather than draw the high free kick. Unless I’m convinced by a player otherwise, I’ll always argue that point.
If players were picked on heart, L.S. Would go first every time. Whatever anyone says about his on field ability, I hear nothing but what a great bloke he is and that carries more weight than anything in my book.

I met a guy at crown Melb in 2016 who was adamant shuey would finish his career over east due to family.
I always thought of how adamant he was and that made me feel that that may actually eventuate.

Good video. I stopped watching football for a good 5 years at least so there was some stuff here I didn't know.

I love Luke. He was a great warrior. But, gee, it's hard to mention how good Luke was without mentioning how important Nic was to Luke's output. If we had a lesser ruckman I'm sure Luke would've still done reasonably well and sometimes excelled (ala 2018 GF). But there was nothing like seeing Nic hitting Luke from all angles at a stoppage and Luke being able to stream away with the football. And then Nic would do it four more times the same game.

Great player. Pity he couldn't go around a couple more seasons to work with Reid, Hewett and Ginbey but I suppose we have the next best thing with him on the coaching squad. Remember seeing him burn the Western Bulldogs as you mentioned and realizing we had a player. Agree our best midfielder since the Glory Days - no disrespect to Pridda. I assume you will get to Peter Matera pretty soon - my all-time fave Eagle.

This is the difference and I think a growing problem with modern day AFL. Too much access to stats and Supercoach competitions etc. Players are slowly losing the iconic and hero status and being replaced in the perception of younger generation fans like they're cryptocurrency. From the days of primary school I looked up to Peter Matera, because he was fast, could kick 60 metres, influenced me to be a good kick on both feet and the running goal in the 3rd QTR of the 1992 Grand Final, was the moment Geelong knew that they were being left in the dust and the Premiership Cup was leaving Victoria for the first time ever in 96 years.

I’ve just never rated Shuey as highly as others have. I think he’s only made the AA team once maybe twice? Which is okay on its own but fans rate him as one of our best ever, yeah he’s not. He’s had a handful of decent games and played well in the GF to give us a lift, but similar to Gaff, I think he was never as great as fans wanted him to be.
He did have the unfortunate situation of being in a midfield right after the Cuz, Kerr and Judd era had ended so big shoes to fill. He ducked for frees too which I didn’t like and he wouldn’t make West Coasts all time best team.
Still, a good clubman but no superstar.

I think you're selling him short but he's not on the Kerr/Cuz/Judd level no doubt
