    Finally its out. it 6 pieces. The neck broke off - (original issue) and when I removed the bolts and pried the neck away from the block, it just snapped. Half of the neck remained in the block, the rest came out. I tried to pull the remaining pieces broke. Then when all the pieces were out I had to get the o-ring out as well. What a PITA job. Tomorrow the installation. Looking for the fun time ! While I'm doing this I decided to do the other plastic water connector which is on the driver side of the block. Only the alternator, air filter, intake manifold, idle valve, etc. has to come out :-) BMW's genius idea of making everything plastic that connects to water.

    Much easier if you remove the windshield cowl, unhook the engine harness from the engine bay body. Then unbolt the two gearbox mounting nuts and tilt the transmission box by jacking it up, now you have lots of room between the engine and firewall.

    I started on the work, E36 1996 318i M42. Its a lot less room. Half of it. I will attempt to raise the back of the transmission to tilt the engine down, and gain some room. Its impossible to get to at the moment. Less then 2" of room and lots of sharp stuff there.

    I’m confused with the rtv because others say coolant is enough on the o-rings and as long as you use oem. Did you use after market coolant pipe?

    • @motoren_works
      @motoren_works  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, i did. I use the after market pipe. In my opinion, the o-ring pipe that i used in this video is not really fit, so leakage still occur. That the reason why i used rtv, to prevent from the leak. If someday the leak occur again, i think i will change the o-ring with another after market o-ring that fit with the engine coolant hole

    • @projman2155
      @projman2155 Před 5 lety +2

      motoren works if the rtv works then it works. I’m leaning towards using rtv even though I have the genuine bmw oem parts so I don’t have to dissamble again if ever it leaks.

    • @oldwortex5818
      @oldwortex5818 Před 3 lety

      I would never use aftermarket part in something like this. Also the RTV was there before, same red one. So I assume BMW put it in with RTV as well. • @motoren_works
      @motoren_works  Před 5 lety +2

      @@MrTPoops i think so, because the m44 engine dimension bigger tha m43, it is quite difficult to remove and install the connector. However, before you remove the intake manifold why you don't try to remove the intake manifold cover first. If this step still can't make an enough space, the last way is remove the intake.

    • @codenamecordon
      @codenamecordon Před 5 lety

      motoren works okay, I know that on the E46 with the M43TU engine, the location is same - behind the engine near the firewall, but I thought maybe you know if there is extra space (or less space). The car has a pretty big coolant leak. I have already changed the expansion tank, upper radiator hose, distributor under the intake manifold, but still leaking. Always after changing a part, the leak slows down for a bit and then comes back even worse. Really running out of ideas already.

    • @motoren_works
      @motoren_works  Před 5 lety

      codenamecordon i see. In my opinion, i think the space doesn't too much different. If there is leak comes out after you change the part, try to apply the RTV sealer too.
