  • It's just an ordinary morning in the garden, my routine of daily harvest, pest checks, pruning and checking in on how everything is growing. I get these look alike carrot weeds every year I grow carrots, does anybody know what they are? I am almost wondering if they aren't some type of mutation on seeds that can occur. The leaves are identical to carrots but the stems are fuzzier and thicker than a typical carrot would look. I am excited to see what our surprise tomato is that we have growing. Stay tuned for all the harvesting and new plantings that will be going on. It seems this garden season is flying by, time to check on the canning supplies and make sure we are ready.

Have you ever tried Broad beans? They are also called favas or faba beans. They are delicious and great to eat fresh or dry and preserve. Very popular in Europe. I’m planning some this year. I love them! They are part of the eastern Mediterranean diet around 6000 BCE or earlier. They are often grown as a cover crop to prevent erosion because they can overwinter and, as a legume, they fix nitrogen in the soil. They are very hardy and it can withstand harsh and cold climates. Here is some info about them.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicia_faba. Give your peppers a lot more space than that. I never cut mine down and they grow to about 4-5 feet in each direction and have more peppers than I can eat. I plant one at every bed or two and they get huge. They like space

The small 3 inch beans can be eaten pods and all or left to grow larger. Keep picking to encourage more beans to grow. Dig the roots back in to the soil and Leeks are a good crop to follow on with as they like nitrogen .
