9 days spent thru / though hiking the long distance trail in Scotland, The West Highland Way. 100 miles of multi day Hiking and Wild Camping UK in great conditions.
Cinematography is fantastic, drone shots are the only ones I’ve seen and super great, dialogue is just right, music enhances your vlog . Great stuff and so enjoyable, thank you.
beautiful. you had the opposite of me across rannoch. i camped at the same spot 22:22, we were both blessed i think. i had -9 deg at night with thigh deep snow as far as the eye could see. total lung buster. the sky was as blue for me as it was for you. ill keep the memory of that walk forever. no drones for me back then (1999) so it was great to see the Airel's. thanks again.
Thank you and thanks for watching! Love hearing other people’s experiences of the WHW! We love looking at the aerials ourselves - nice to get that perspective :)!
Just stumbled across this great film in anticipation of my own attempt to walk the WHW next Spring. Loved it so much! Apart from a bit of rain seems like you had fantastic weather, well here's hoping....
this video was wonderfully made! both fun and informative. i'm going to walk the West Highand Way with my mum in just 2 weeks, our first backpack adventure! this video was helpful to get an idea of what we could expect.
It's heartwarming to see you guys enjoying the trail with kettles, tea, wood-burning stove, and Korean brand ramen noodles!! (Where did you find them?). So you certainly don't need to carry a lot of food, so finding joy in the little things like these. Wonderful! Love it! What month did you go on the trip? I'm planning to go in May next year. It seems like the bugs are no joke.
Thank you for putting this together. Amazing views and so well done. I'm starting the way in September and this has me so excited for the trip. I'm trying to figure out where you were on the hilltop. And that waterfall - amazing! Can you share?
Just saw your video, i liked it a lot. nice editing and nice vieuws. did it in oktober 21, had lots of rain. nice tot see now what was behind the shower curtain:-)
Thanks Mark!! Yeah we were quite lucky and enjoyed some good days. We’d love to re do it in colder months though I’m sure it has a totally different feel!
Great experience. We did the Cumbria way in the summer in preparation for taking on the WHW next spring. Nice video, although I must admit, I fast forwarded the footage of you having a wash, not sure why you chose to film that but hey, 😊. Much Love The Shackletons 😊
I really enjoyed this video, thank you. It was beautifully filmed, some great shots and good quality video too. Have to say that your packs looked quite heavy, I guess the video equipment and drone must have been part of that. All that kit and you forgot to take a couple of sporks? 🤣
Very, very, very well done. Walking, filming and editing. The drone shots... epic!!! And men, you guys have been blessed with this awesome weather! I walked the way in the beginning of June and except for day one it rained every day. Sometimes it rained only once -> The whole day ;-) But the WHW is awesome regardless of the weather. Happy hiking
Hello. Great Video. Thank you for taking us with you! So inspiring! Which time of the year did you travel the West Highland Way? It looks pretty like peak of the summer? Do you had a lot of other travelers on your way back then? On the video it seems you have been pretty much been alone on the track.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!! We did this end of May / beginning of June and miraculously managed to get a good weather week. There was definitely quite a few people on the trail but we usually started our days late to miss the early crowds and people tended to be quite spaced out :).
Thanks Jay! There are some really great packing lists if you have a quick Google so this is by no means exhaustive but I’d suggest you pack for both rain and sun as the Scottish weather is unpredictable. If you’re planning to camp prepare for a couple days here and there without shops but generally you pass by a village everyday if you keep going so don’t worry too much. We carried a tent, full sleeping set up (mat, sleeping bag, pillow) and all the kitchen essentials (gas, pot, etc.) and always remember compass, first aid kit, etc. All the best! :)
Absolutely beautiful footage. Thank you sharing! I kind of fell in love with the track at 15:50. Do you have any name or source that you could share? Thank you!
Incredible video! any tips on wild camping as I’m doing the way next year but I’m not sure how to pick a spot and the etiquette round it other than leave no trace
Thank you and thanks for watching!! There’s an abundance of places to set up - really you can’t go wrong. The only place which is restricted as far as we’re aware is a section of Loch Lomond which is why we camped in Sallochy campsite but you can actually find cheap permits to camp on the shore but they go quick so were sold out for our dates! Some days we ended up hiking a bit further than the usual village / town stop off just to find somewhere to pitch. The only day we struggled a little was day one where most people camp at Drymen camp ground but it’s busy so make sure you book or you’ll have to keep going for a few more miles till you get to trees / fields! Hope that helps.
Hello 👋 I'm going to do this in September - loved your video - gave me confidence that nice camp spots exist without using campsites! Can I ask what little fire box thing you were using?
Hi. Planning to do the walk in august/sept. Could you tell me what month you did the walk? Aussie here so it would help understand what conditions we could expect. Great vid by the way. So well done.
Hi Ken! Thanks for watching :) we did it late May/early June. You should be fine in late summer but I’d make sure to bring face nets and midge repellant (mosquitos). Also I’d always suggest waterproofs as well as shorts as the Scottish weather is unpredictable! We had rain for 2 days then scorching heat for the rest. Hope it goes well for you!!
Great video! I’m planning on doing the WHW this year with my partner and would love to know what tent you used and how you found it? Also where did you get your little fire pit? Thanks!
Thanks Katie! We have the MSR Hubba hubba and rate it. We also have the alpkit fire box but I’m sure there are plenty of others around too. Enjoy it it’ll be amazing
Hi, I'm planning on hammock camping the whw this year and am researching any potential camping spots, may i ask specifically where you camped in the spot of woodland at 22:55 and what is the loch behind. I think it is the first patch of woodland after Inveroran and the loch in the background is loch Tulla. would i be correct... thank you
hi great video guys great to watch ,just a quick question did u pay for thecamping when you wild camped at the loch as my son and i planning it next year ,dont really know about this camp zone malarkey.??
Hey thanks for watching!! So during March to September there are camping restrictions along the Loch Lomond shore. There are a few spots where you can get a permit for less than £10 within the management zone. Otherwise you’re best bet is camping at Sallochy campsite which we did! As soon as we left the management zone you’re okay to camp in the shore again :) a quick google search will show you a map of where the zone is
Just watched your video and really enjoyed it. I have done the West Highland way a few times over the last few years. Please tell me what time of the year. Did you do this and where did you camp at twenty three minutes
I suspect this was mid to late May. There were plenty of bluebells out when I was on the WHW at that time of year. But our weather was not nearly as nice!
We’re currently wearing Mountain Equipment’s Saltoro jackets which did the job brand new but may need some reproofing more often - but planning on upgrading to something more hard wearing probably also ME
Sorry for the delay in responding! We imagine you’ve done your trip by now and If so we hope it was great and you managed to get some info from the video and others :) let us know if you need anything else!!
Hi guys! It is fantatic adnenture - I've been all the time with you in my mind. 💚🍀. It is also amazing inspiration. I add this trail to my "must go" lust. I send greetins to you. By the way is there any possibility to by some food somewhere or I have to take food for whole hike? Ps. Subscibed and I'll be watching your advemtures. See you on the trail!😀😉
Gorgeous video! Whereabouts was the campsite on your first night, in the pine forest? I'm tossing up between stopping at Drymen Camping or pushing on to Garadhban Forest, so very interested to know where this is - it's stunning.
Thanks for watching :)! We pushed on to the forest a mile or so after Drymen campsite. It’s after the A road so you can’t really miss it. What we would suggest is if you plan to stop at the campsite definitely book in advance because it can sell out as it’s harder to find wild camping spots close by and the day ends up being 21-22km if you keep going. All the best!!
A Scotsman referring to a loch as a "lake" is sacrilegious and completely unforgivable.
This comment is going to haunt me.
@@FindingTrails 😜👍
Yes I nearly turned off.
I almost deported my mrs when I heard her on the phone telling her mam we went to lake lomond 🫣. Still not forgiving her for that
I was saying this is a great video , stunning scenery to the mrs , THEN. You said LAKE !!
Come on man !
I’ll let you off this time😂
Cinematography is fantastic, drone shots are the only ones I’ve seen and super great, dialogue is just right, music enhances your vlog . Great stuff and so enjoyable, thank you.

Aw thank you!! We did it in May and we had the best time. Hope you enjoy it!!
Just found your channel great video thanks for sharing 👍
I love the way you guys camp! Not a lot of fancy gadgets/using found items/etc. I like your handy-dandy tarp setup too!
Thank you - we enjoy our set up for sure :)! And thanks for watching.

Great job guys, that looked tough in that heat.
Liked and subbed. 👍🏼
Thanks so much! It was definitely tough going when there was no shade but can’t complain as we stayed dry!! 😂
@@FindingTrails Yeah, it’s better than a drenching.
Breathtaking scenery, just like some Netflix documentary.
Thanks for watching!! :)
Thank you it's Comfort TV time for me now. Thank you 💓

Loch Tulla is right . There's a few spots around , near the Hotel before Rannoch Moor. Should be good for a hammock.
nice
just came across your video, best filmed whw trip yet, inspirational.... can i ask what weight you were carrying roughly. liked and subbed

Nice video, cheers!
Cheers! This was late May , early June.
I am doing it solo next month. How heavy were your backpacks ? Thanks.
Nice man. I think around 15kg (without camera gear).
Hiya nice video man! How bad were the midges? I read so much bad reviews about it that i am really doubting of going
Cheers! Ah they are not ideal, but stick a head net on, and a smokey fire you'll be OK.
Go out of season in april or september midges just coming out in april and most are dead in september .

I believe between 11-15kg each depending on how much food we have but we carry camera gear which weighs a bit more :)
Is this route safe for single women without a companion?
We think so, it's a popular trail so plenty people around normally.
Fucking 1 minute in and already had a commercial break x2..wtf is wrong with the world
Less talking heads and backs of hikers more scenery. Your commentry which is interesting can be made over shots of countryside.
Thanks for watching and for the good feedback :)
Personally I thought it was fine.
