The fluid dynamics are interesting here. You wouldn't want to fall in this time of year. Chances are you wouldn't ever get out. The whole river passes through a section that is no more than 6 feet wide creating a wild display of fluid dynamics. A dam begun construction in the 1890's but was abandoned in 1904. The ruins remain. One of the more interesting sections of the Santiam River located right off Highway 22 just east of Gates, OR.
