Dude, you need to chill a little bit. People list items on eBay all the time asking way more than they may be worth. As grown adults, and as watch guys, we can pretty easily sift through the garbage.
To make the generalization that everyone should just avoid eBay is BS. I've had good experiences as both a buyer and seller.
So far on eBay, I have only had good experiences....

I came across this listing yesterday. I laughed out loud when I read the description. I sell on eBay to help pay for school. I would never do this!
I sell on eBay and I’m legit. Not everyone is a scumbag on there. Make sure people have a load of photos and very detailed descriptions, I do both and don’t know why sellers wouldn’t, instant red flag for me.
I also put my watches at 0 and let the bidding go from there. They always sell where I expect if not higher.
I don’t think that’s and EBay thing. That just a human thing. I’ve done regular purchases on there and have not been screwed at all.

It really doesn’t make sense to condemn eBay for a sketchy seller. eBay isn’t perfect and I’ve had my complaints, but, I’ve gotten great deals from reputable sellers and I’ve sold many items myself. I think it’s just a little too easy (and fashionable) to hate on eBay.
I buy most of my watches from Ebay, as I do sell them. I am not scum, but thanks for your input
I personally had a great experience buying watches on eBay. Arrived fast and exactly as described, but one should consider the seller's reputation and read some reviews before ordering.

Where else am I supposed to get retro import Seikos? I know Ebay sellers can be scummy but most of the time it's fine and there are few alternatives for certain items.
There are other sites but most of them sell on eBay as well.

Yeah, people have gotten screwed but I've bought probably 10 watches on Ebay without one issue or deception.
Even on Amazon stuff like this happens. I saw a Gerber Dime Travel selling for $99.99 when real life value is $9.99 to $18.99. Another thing is this artificial inflation price hike BS where gas is now $4.30. So much for raising the minimum wage if everything went up in price accordingly. Makes you feel like life is a scam.
Not too long ago I bought a $18 Casio A168 on eBay and it turned out to be fake 😂

Well doctors are often egotistical, he probably thinks his wearing the watch does add value somehow.
I collect vintage and antique pocket watches but I don't know where else I can get them except on ebay. Occasionally I may find one at a coin or pawn shop (or given one by a family member) but they are pretty much nonexistent anywhere else.
Whilst the price mentioned is patently ridiculous - the description clearly had the desired effect of grabbing people's attention and forcing discussion. You've just been suckered into providing this seller with free advertising and they are far more likely to sell this item as a result. This could only get more sneaky if the seller was in fact (dum-dum-dummm) you, Jory.
EBay... You really need to pick and choose carefully. Some are great, some are literally money hungry and skyrocket the price.

WWII Military watches are worth more if worn by a soldier. I did some research of why WWII military watches are so rare. Because the Radium illumination is radioactive for 1300 years and they were destroyed in the 1970s.

I bought an inexpensive used watch under 100. It was my birth year watch. He said I dont know anything about watches. Its working sold as is.
So yes, it works but the hour hand needs to be reset because at 1pm its almost at the two.
But I have a watch guy ready to do vintage repairs. I think if ebay sellers as used car salesmen. Some are honorable, some not. I prefer to think this guy was just moving an estate sale buy.

i had a foray with an ebay apologist a few years ago, that left a permanent taste of bullshit in my mouth. we communicated electronically, which was probably lucky for both of us. the impression i got was how could ANYONE find fault with these gypsy elves who were just trying to feed their starving children and should be given endless forgiveness for "errors". i was a bully and my negative comments were horrific. as i said, "electronically" was a very good thing.

If I sold on ebay, it was for a reasonable price. Just ignore the crazy pricing. Honestly, it is 100% more seller beware, as there are a decent amount of buyers that are even more scummy, and ebay usually supports most buyers claims. Buyers cannot receive negative feedback, so you don't know who you are selling to. Also, the listing process is a bit of a pain. I probably won't use to sell again, as I have other avenues to do so, but I don't mind window shopping and comparing prices.
It still bothers me that ebay allows Nazi paraphernalia to be sold on their site.
It could have been worn by a proctologist during an examination 🧐.

eBay isn't the problem. I've had a okay buying via there. Carousell are better. I'm not why every time something wonky regarding a watch or watches appears they go to you Jory, it's not like it's your fault, nor can you change it.
People should just work things out for themselves.

i never had a problem with ebay tbh,ik there is scummy people(things i have bought) red dead redemption game of the year edition,marvel legends venom,marilyn manson rock is dead shirt,neca gamestop pennywise exclusive,red dead redemption 2 war horse codes.So i have no issue,no broken boxes but i do see alot of ebay sellers being scummy,i asked to see if the person was gonna be honest to see if the marvel legends is a bootleg just by looking at the box( it was)thank god i got a real one,so i asked him,and he started to lie his ass off.One other guy was being an asshole and started to be a cry baby.so when i started to use ebay,i was kinda scared to use it bec i thought i was gonna loose money but so far,i like ebay but i hate the sellers.

Once I found a specific vintage seiko alba listed for 500$ while on a local site on my country I found the same watch with same condition for less than 20$, lol.

It is a problem on Ebay. I agree its not the actual watch, its the person who is selling it. These watch sellers are preying on the ignorance of the public. If anything, this is your public service message, but then again, you cant fix ignorance.Its just like people who call your phone wanting money or anything like that. Due your due diligence. On another note. Ebay's program to certify watches over $2000.00 is a big step in the right direction. I just used it for the first time and it was seamless. I prefer to buy from a AD, but I use a vendor on ebay in Japan, fair prices, and great quality.

I collect antique and not so antique guns. You are buying the gun…not the story. Unless they have VERY good documentation to go along with the story. ie. not every pistol brought back from WW2 was carried by an SS officer.

Hi Earl in your video you show a clip of Seinfeld. I’m just curious if you got his permission to use his image in your video? Or maybe you just went through the studio or distributor of his reruns and you licensed the film clip? You do realize it’s copyrighted material And it Hass to go through licensing, correct? I want to use a 12 second Seinfeld clip in a feature film, I was told to license it for any kind of broadcast will be six to $10,000. So curious did you pay like 1000 or $2000 for that short clip of Jerry Seinfeld? Anyone else notice out and have comments on it? I have had mostly positive experiences buying on ebay. My negative experiences have been selling. He thinks it's worth more because he's a noob and saw the john mayer talking watches where they talk about a chronograph with a pulsometer and wax poetic about it.
I couldn't believe my eyes as I stumbled upon a time collectors treasure chest and didn't even know it, I knew the time to act was immediate.
I bought the Pagani Design Daytona on ebay. I knew it was Seiko quartz but the seller still listed it as automatic movement 70hr power reserve. £49 so I bought it anyway but I get your point. Total liar.

Ebay is notorious for people over charging for items I have seen 5$ books listed for over 1000$ bucks.... I say this though this happens also on Amazon... any sellers site you have people trying to make money for nothing. I have sold watches and other items on ebay and have excellent 100% track record. Selling a watch ebay is going to get 15% plus you have to consider your time offer free shipping and insurance. Do all this and still be more competitive then the list price. It's not an easy task.
