      Giannis is a throwback to the time when players didn't change teams every 2 years and didn't grow up playing together, so they might have a professional relationship, but it wasn't all buddy-buddy like it is now where half the stars all came up playing AAU together.

      Think Giannis isnt really the type of person to do many interviews. Others may see it as branding opportunity, or just as brothers helping eachother out. I personally dont see Giannis having much interest in that, he always lets his play on the court do the talking. I remember some story that he, as odd one out, didnt want to go do pick-up in LA with all the other pros because they could get a competitive advantage out of that. • @09lowkey
      @09lowkey Před rokem +35

      The difference (imo) are international players come to the states with a solid fundamental skill set, their foundations are solid. They understand what it means to play team basketball, they have the basics of dribble, pass, & shoot. They understand how Defenses are 'supposed' to work. Now they might not be elite in any of these areas or know how to apply these skills at a high level but it's alot different when a player knows how to utilize the triple threat, how to pass out of the post, the importance of ball movement, etc etc. In contrast to kids in the USA who grow up learning how to do eurosteps and crossovers for the oohs and aahs before they can consistently finish with their off-hand.
      Simply put, international players grow up learning how to play organized basketball, not instagram/2k basketball.

      Facts, that's why you can't believe the hype with lottery picks these days. It's not so much about what you coming into the league with, it's about how much you can develop that in the first several seasons in the league. Jimmy Butler is a perfect example, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves because he didn't come into the league with the fanfare, he just improved every season and went from riding the bench to All-NBA caliber. Meanwhile you have players like KAT & Tatum who had the fanfare but haven't expanded their game much since their rookie season.

    The narrative that Giannis isn’t skilled is ridiculous. Dribbling the ball for 20 seconds and then shooting a step back 3 is one/two skills in the entire game lol (James Harden 🤦🏼‍♂️).
    Athletic 7 footers have happened and will continue to happen in the NBA but being big and athletic doesn’t guarantee you’ll be great. If it did, Deandre Jordan, Dwight Howard and Javale McGee would be talked about like Giannis. They’re probably as athletic if we talking sheer athleticism and power.
    Yet Giannis can literally dribble like a guard, lead the fast break on his own and or finish it, he can play in the post on offence, he can pass out of it. He can face up from the perimeter and get by anyone. On defence, he literally can guard all 5 positions. His perimeter D might even be the best we’ve ever seen from a guy his size, and obviously he protects the paint.
    You don’t become an MVP, FMVP, DPOY just coz you big lol. If you really think about it, the ONLY weakness to his game is his shooting. The rest of it is as elite as we’ve ever seen and he’s not really even in his prime prime. We all know he somehow still has the potential to get better even where he’s currently strong. So if you consider that shooting is his only weakness, then the idea he’s not skilled is so damn dumb.
    I mean, Kobe and MJ could say Harden got no skill coz he can’t play in the post like those 2 or move without the ball. The man has a far smaller skill set overall than Giannis haha and it’s not even close 😂

That is the difference Europeans have with Americans and this is why the top 3 players of the next era are all Europeans, coz moves can be learned even at late stages of an athletes career the mentality and basketball IQ needs to be taught from a young age

    Thanks for being honest DeMar. The hate Giannis gets is incredibly weird to me. I’ve been going to 40-60 games yearly center court row 10 since 1987 (10 games a year in 85 and 86 also) and Giannis last 4 yrs one of best 4 year stretches I’ve ever seen (from 23/24 to 26/27 years old especially).
    So many casuals confuse handles/shooting as the only “skills” in basketball when there are many skills and aspects to the game and Giannis is elite at all of them outside shooting (getting better and is 6’11” 250 so besides Durant Dirk Hakeem Garnett and few others none of the all time bigs 6’10” and taller are great shooters and we don’t hold it against them for being the top10 GOAT (Russell Kareem Wilt Duncan Shaq Giannis all elite all time greats and not better then avg shooters. Giannis has best handles of all of them and top2-3 passer). If Giannis keeps improving and stays health by the time in 2030 I’d be surprised if he’s not in my top5-15 somewhere.
