I’ve done all maintenance on my smart car myself since I bought it three years ago.
I always thought I’d better visit the workshop for having the belts changed. But after seeing your video, I decided to do the job myself . With the video and the tools, it was a succes :-)
I can see the value in the belt remover tool, it seems like the alternator tensioner tool makes sense to give you two free hands. Im sold, because Im basically doing a 60k mile upgrade with suspension and want to replace my belts as well. Im happy I found your video! Thank you!

At 4:47 can you comment on what device you were using to see the appropriate tension? I've always went by feel. No more than 3/16" finger push distance.

I always try to tune my belts to a C#…..they seem to last longer than the traditional Dd

Help!!!! I just bought a 2011 and the belt was said to have broken and it took out a wire too??? Wire was fixed and belt replaced and now it will not start.. Any ideas what couldve happened???

What's the reason for the bolt you undo at 1:50 and do back up at 5:15?
It doesn't seem to do anything.

That's the main alternator securing bolt. If you don't loosen it the alternator won't move when you slacken the tensioner bolt
@@bentleybloke it's just not necessary, the alternator is stiffer to hinge down but it will move with the bolt tightened.
@@evilutionltd come to my house and get my alternator off then haha. It’s seized solid hence why I was on here looking fo advice on removal.

I finally made a video - more a slideshow - on how to measure the tension.
You will find the link in the description above.
You have to loosen this bolt, so you can swivel the alternator downwards and remove the belt. Otherwise you won't be able to remove the belt.
staaaajn my belt broke and it took out a wire now it wont start.. any idea?
