    History of the aircraft
The prototype of the PO-2 biplane, which was later to become the legendary plane of the Soviet Air Force, was designed in the design office of Nikolai Nikolayevich Polikarpov in 1927. With over 40,000 PO-2s, it is probably the most produced aircraft in the world. The two seat biplane, which was produced from the beginning of 1928, was used in the civil aviation and the air force by the new generation of Soviet pilots. The plane was powered by The Shvetsov M-11 engine with power output of 100-115 hp.
In the World War II it served as the training, liaison, staff, transport, ambulance, bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. Because of its quiet, rattling engine the Germans called it Sewing machine (Nähmaschine). Soviets called it Kukuruznik (Maize Cutter). Because of its quiet sounding engine the plane was used for various purposes such as air lifting supplies to partisan’s units in the night, transporting wounded soldiers, directing gun fire from the plane and night bombing raids. The plane was made most famous probably by the 46th Aviation Regiment composed by female pilots which took part in the night raids on the German army positions. Germans called this female units “Night Witches” (Nachthexen) which the female members of the regiment accepted and started using themselves. The plane was continuously improved and in 1944 it was renamed Po-2 in the memory of the designer Polikarpov who tragically died. After the war it was produced under licence in Poland. The production in the Soviet Union ended in 1953. The Kukuruznik was also used by the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps and after the war it was used with designation K-62 by the Czechoslovak Air Force. Several Po-2s were used by the Svazarm aero clubs until the late 1960s.

Guys this is a nice and friendly channel, Captain Robert just wants to give us a great test fly with his new airplane, lets do not bring those two brothers down with silly comments, instead lets support them because they are doing this with passion and love. Cheers Captain and Pilot Petrinčič.

This was really nothing my friends. The first thing was that the new aileron servos were behaving strange and the second thing was that the bird was sick tail heavy. From the information that I got from previous owner it looked like the CG was perfect but it was way off wich I have sadly discovered after the takeoff. I dont think now that this bird was made for electro power but for glow engine. The whole engine was missing to get perfect G spot again. But dont worry, Captain Mitja has taken this baby and maybe we will see it again on our runway with some four stroke engine on. Oh yeah. Thanks for stopping by and big salute to all from Slovenia.

Pilot Robert, having watched so many of your videos I know that you are a great pilot and that when something goes wrong during one of your flights that it is a mechanical/electrical problem and not a piloting problem. It appeared to me that the cg was off right at takeoff because of how the plane lifted off the runway. Then I noticed how unstable the plane seemed to be rolling left and right shortly before crashing into the ground. Thank God that you and Capt. Blaz are experienced RC pilots with level heads and don't take yourselves too seriously. I have made a couple of mistakes like that myself, with the same result. We can be like big kids and let our excitement rule our heads! 😥😥😁😁 It was a big open field, nobody was in danger of being hurt, so no need to take it seriously - all part of the hobby, and another lesson learned. Damn! So sorry for your loss (Runaway Trim?) , This was the Famous plane of the Sexy “Night Witches”! During the Great Patriotic War (World War II in the Soviet Union), about 3,500 POLIKARPOV PO-2/U-2 aircraft were used. The most significant contribution they made were performing the role of a night bomber. The renewed design of the PO-2/U-2 allowed carrying bombs weighing from 100 to 300 kg.
The famed “Night Witches”, a group of female pilots that performed night bombing raids on German positions, used the U2/Po-2. U-2 planes were part of the 46th female guard’s night bomber air regiment. During the war, 23 of the women who fought on the U-2 received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
    Thank you Guys!

I'll never understand people getting mad over someone else doing something they deem "a waste". Was it smart to take off with a broken servo? Probably not. Is this entirely Roberts choice? Absolutely. He didn't complain about the plane crashing, he knew it could happen. That's not a "waste of a model", it's a gamble that didn't pay off - so what. I wouldn't have taken off, but why would someone get mad because Robert did? Thats, honestly, just stupid. It's his model, if he sets it on fire because he feels like it, there's nothing for you to judge. We all know those two big lads love planes, so to even assume he just wanted it to crash is moronic, sorry.

First of all thanks a lot for sharing and keep up with your great work!
Two years ago I got a new AcroWot E MK2 from Ripmax and couldn't trim the plane properly even when there was no wind. Then a fellow pilot hinted me that some cheap servos can have a lack of precision regarding their zero position. So I replaced them as follows - two Savox SH-0264MG for the ailerons and two KST X12-508 for the rudder and the elevator.
From that day on the plane trimmed flawlessly - set it and forget it. When I get a PNP model airplane I always check the servos first and replace them if necessary. Safety has priority at least from my perspective. Cost doesn't matter in this case.

Hi Robert, Yeah it's not easy especially old scale biplanes which require a lot of nose weight unlike single wings which have a GSPOT generally 33% back from the leading (front) edge. But I think the G-SPOT on a biplane is roughly found by going back 25% from the front edge on the TOP wing and 25% back on front edge of the bottom wing and then visualise the half way point point between these two points. this is roughly! nose heavery is better than tail heavy. blackheart.smugmug.com/photos/234308993_5y4zi-L.jpg . A beautiful model and a beautiful crash.
I tend to agree with your assessment. it is possible that the left servo moved to the limit and binded - when the servo bind - the resistance increase and suck up the current. The bec voltage dip and brownout occur.
This is a common problem with retract servos - need to calibrate - if they bind it'll brown out the receiver. Check the receiver if they're blinking.

Ah, so sorry the plane had a bad servo. The lesson from this is, follow your gut feeling. Don't fly just to have another video. When you have a control problem or suspect that you do, take the plane far away. Set it down with a dummy propellor and test it out. It would be cool to do that, especially if you had a little person to person com setup so that you could easily talk to each other. I know you don't have the time to put it back together, but maybe somebody else does. I always made balsa planes. There were no foam planes. If at all possible, I would repair the damages.
Yes, I saw the crash, and don't believe that it can be fixed. But who knows? Some guys can repair anything that doesn't burn. Wow, did you see the climb out? It was eager to fly! Thanks for sharing!

I'm very sorry for your loss. One problem is the servo cannot move without power. Something was supplying power to that servo while it just sat there. That would point at the receiver or possibly the transmitter, not the servos. I hope you find the cause so as to not reuse a bad component. Good luck gentlemen.😀

Hello from France , in the pre-flight checklist, Captain Robert forgot to shout "Ailerons". I'm sure that's the only reason that brought the plane to crash :p.

      @bmpowellicio Před 4 lety

@@PetrincicBrosRC Yep, very short nose, light motor, lots of drag. It all adds up. Classic loss of control when below safe flying speed. You mentioned no controls worked, that's aerodynamic failure rather than electronics. I've never heard of a twitchy servo bringing down an ESC, it doesn't seem sensible, most unlikely. But, to be sure, you can afford to get some Graupner (especially now,) or Multiplex. In fact you can afford Jeti, its a wise investment. PLEASE upgrade your RC, we don't want to see you go through this every week with the current stuff. Its always with the same make of RC.

I have a new Turbo Timber ready for its maiden flight. Am waiting for calm winds. I am getting back into the hobby after quite a few years. Oh, and here is how I check CG on RC planes - I put a screw-eye into a joist in my basement. I then hang the plane from that screw eye, one line from front of plane, one line from back of plane, adjust lengths to have plane hang level. Then I just hang a plumb bob from that screw eye which points to the exact CG. Plane right side up or upside down, method works either way and of course you can add a weight to watch CG move.

I am a big fan of your videos and really enjoy to watch them. I'm flying rc airplanes since the age of 5 and now have over 20 years of experience. From my point of view I would say that you did not had enough yaw angle on the motor an therfore the model immediately started turning (yawed) to the left after takeoff. You could have fixed this problem by giving more rudder to the right. Also the plane started to tumble to the left as soon as you gave a tiny bit to much elevator wich is another proof that there was not enough "rudder right" input.
I hope you understand what I try to say here.
I wish you the best for the future and always happy landings.
