Those 1996 finals was the reason I'm panthers fan to this day. First ever nhl. Games I watched was the finals. And I'm sucker for underdogs. Yea it was brutal. But not as brutall than last 20+ years. So for me last 3 years has been unreal. To be a fan of a team that is finally got something really right.
That 1996 Panthers run changed my life. I started playing and only now because of injury have I put up the skates, as Cats are leading the Cup Final. I played in college and travel and junior and the entire ride was because of the Panthers and that magical run. I hope Cats win it all right now. Proper way for me to complete it all.
The Panthers are why I played hockey and got scouted by Cape Breton Eagles of the CHL - I dont say that to brag but to say hockey in Florida is no joke. We have amazing programs here. The Panthers are the reason why my 3 year old nephew is taking skating lessons and wants to play hockey. My sister sends me pics of him lifting a mini stanley cup. He didnt have to suffer with this team like I did. I was 10 when the Panthers came here. We are a hockey town. We finally have competent owners who want to win and an incredible GM and Hockey Ops Dept. who have built this current iteration out of castaways, misfits and waiver claims. I was at game 4 of the 1996 Final watching the Avs celebrate their first Cup... I am 41 now. I have waited my whole life for this moment. My best friend is an Isles fan - he tells me every day how lucky I am that I cheer for an elite team. Canadian fans need to stop trying to gatekeep the sport. I thought Boston fans were nasty but surprisingly I think Edmonton fans take the cake. People say some nasty and ridiculously illogical things to complete strangers... I don't get it. The Cats are a legit franchise and us fans are legit too... WE BELONG. PANTHERS NEED TO FINISH THIS!!!! LET'S GO!!!

French Canadian Habs fan here. Barkov is a HOF and a top 3 player in the world, for some time now. Huberdeau falling off a cliff, proved to the rest of the league how good he really is.
96 Finals was closer than people think. They did get blown out in game 2. But the rest of the game were 1 goal games. Not saying they could or should have won the Cup but at least 2 of those games could have easily gone the Panthers way. Regardless, game 4 has to be one of the best goaltending performances in Cup history.
I was talking to a couple from Florida last year, they were here in 🇬🇧 on vacation. They told me they were rooting for Florida to win the SC, but it would mean so much more to them personally if the Jacksonvile Jaguars won a Super Bowl, because Florida is a 'Hockey.State' where NFL & NCAA College football reign supreme. 🇺🇸🏈
The rats are definitely the most memorable part but we were pretty surprised at how many storylines were going on at the same time! Appreciate the support!
You didn't even know what the cup was until they made the final, don't lie to me. It happened in Toronto too when the Raptors went to the finals, even to this day I don't even know what the NBA Championship Trophy is called

I love the style of play for these Panthers. When my favorite team gets eliminated, I usually get attached to a great defensive team and cheer them all the way to the Cup. They are very similar to the early 2000's Devils and the 2010's Kings teams.
i mean as a person living in the south fl area, if your team is not winning, people don’t show up, in every sport that happens the 2016-17 (for some time) and 2018-19 heat the marlins the panthers for a while the dolphins in their garbage years and inter miami when they sucked so ofc winning games is their top priority.
Avalanche in 1996 were so good that it's just not fair. If they had nobody in net, they're still the easy favourite but they had a top-3 goalie of all-time in Patrick Roy... not to mention prime Sakic and prime Forsberg.
Great team and coach. Good fans. Would prefer Quebex city and another Canadian city to get a team before Miami or other teams. Miami is a great city but its not a hockey region.
It'd be interesting to make a list of the playoff upsets that pissed the most people off. It's a nice David and Goliath story, but Panthers did nothing against the Avs. If the Penguins had gotten through, it would have been Lemieux against Roy, and probably much more entertaining hockey.
Hockey and organized sports are rigged, the NHL has been rigging the games for the south. We have to believe that Vegas wins out of now where after given all the good players. They have not intention for Canadian teams to win like 5 times in the next decade. Dont worry the NHl keeps doing evil, it will be their down fall. NFL did all this woke agenda politics and it not making money as it was in the past. I have been watching hockey since the 1980s, hockey was better sport in everyway, now it is Neutered and they have become soft. Let it fail like the NFL
