Thanks for having GVS on. Him and Natural Hypertrophy have really helped kickstart my first year of serious BB training. I started older (36) so I’m not thinking of ever competing, but I love people asking me if I’m on gear and love what I see so far thanks to those two’s programming and intensity outlook.
Did you have a history of working out prior to your bodybuilding journey? And was 36 when you started taking things seriously?
@@lightningarrow4486 Yes 36 is the first time I've worked out/ate well for more than 3 months straight without then taking years and years off in between.
I was a competitive sprinter in HS, and we were supposed to do conditioning, but I never took it seriously, and often skipped it, or did a half-assed set of Bench and Squats (unfortunately, I know now it would have helped my run times)...and through my adulthood i've had maybe 3 or 4 periods of like 2-3 months of 'taking things seriously' then burning out, and not picking up a weight for years and years.
So i technically had a bit of a head-start, but nothing substantial one wouldn't get from newbie gains anyway!
Woah. This is like the two sides of my youtube becoming one lol.
A VirgorousSteve v. Natural Hypertrophy would be fascinating to watch. Other than that, it would be interesting if we got Steve talking to people in different sports (or creating protocols for different sports). There are no resources out there if someone isn't interested in bodybuilding.
please make this happen
@@dontreadmyname4396 ?
@@dontreadmyname4396that’s crazy. I’m not a fan of NH because he is the most dogmatic person I’ve ever heard speak, but his physique is well developed but just not great structurally
@@dontreadmyname4396 he has 17+ inch arms & 27+ inch legs, that’s impressive for a natural. His insertions just don’t look great
@@dontreadmyname4396his core is really well developed, he's just unfortunate with his wide hips
The one consistent characteristic in the few great coaches is nuance. Mad respect to both of you.
Not even past the intro and already liked + added to favourite list. Didn't expect this collab. Commenting for the algo
Geoffrey is good people and he's a Muscle Nomad enjoying Asia just like me and Aaron and all the other bodybuilders over on this side of the pond! XD
Damn this is an unexpected collab! Glad to see it ❤
Miss the non fraudulent bodybuilding podcast 💕
I was rewatching a couple old eps with bleu on today myself..funny u say this
Great to see this! Vigorous Steve, it speaks very well of your character that you're willing to actually talk about natty vs enhanced differences with an actual natural bodybuilder! We need more of this!
I’m one of the 5 natural guys on your channel and already loved GVS’s content. Came over from Derek’s a few years ago thinking I wanted to make the jump to the dark side but you convinced me to learn what I was doing before adding compounds on top as I’m only 24 so I have plenty of time to train and learn before I’m ready.
Looking forward to another great collaboration here ! Thank you guys and have a great day too ! 😎💪
Loved this chat! Thanks for putting it out guys.
Awesome conversation! Thank you both!
Excited for the updates to the daily supplement list as well, Steve! Cant wait to watch this one too.
Loved this talk. Thanks Steve and GVS
Excited for this one!
Super awesome information and discussions. I am grateful that you're both focusing on your passions and high quality content! It's incredibly genuine and authentic ❤ Thanks for the workout and exercise tips. I need to go back in the Vigorous Archive and look for those diet and workout videos 🎉❤
Sweet colab!
Never heard of this guy but he seems awesome! Great personality and I have a lot of respect for what he does. Great video Steve
Great chemistry with this collab
Loved this conversation, from two non-bs people, that take the craft seriously but not themsleves! Loads of tips on life, also outside of bodybuilding! Fav quote: it's when you're crying after 30 min on the cardio machine, that's when you know you're in your best shape! 😂
11:52 i just want to say that your training videos were what made me subscribe a couple years ago or even earlier. You taught me an intensity under control and i really enjoyed them.
Subscribe to me or Geoffrey?
@@VigorousSteve to you! Ironically Im natural myself with no plans to change that, but you taught me real training intensity. I later found his channel and subscribed later that year, however you were first with the videos at the muscle factory haha. This mightve been maybe 2020. They helped me get excited and gain a love for bodybuilding.
@@thiefbox righto i never knew he had these videos im watching em now loving it
Great show
Really enjoyed this podcast on my walk.
What GVS said at 1:35:30 is 10000% true lmao. The theoretician vs the action taker. Have to take more action, less theory.
Thank you, Steve, for having GVS on. I unsubbed your channel a while ago because you were one of the people that actually convinced me not to get on steroids ironically enough. Having big natties like GVS on is so important to preserving the health of young men and shows you believe in your mission.
Great vid and convo! Thanks Steve and GVS. The BPC comments were interesting to me. Ofcourse you could spin something. Him taking BPC to let him train and do what he loves sounds like someone taking lots of test to up their work capacity and recovery to lift more and be in the gym more often since it's what they love 😂 not that it's my stance but still feels little bit of a slope haha
Shoutout to the Alvaro J D guy timestampping every podcast
Just wanted to say I’m one of the naturals that watch your channel Steve and I’ve been for probably a year now! Also I met you at the Olympia and I might have been one of the guys that look like teenagers 😂 but I’m actually 28!! Thought that part was funny
I've been training for 2 years and damn this video pops on👑
Geoffrey is not natural i saw him drink milk the other day!! This podcast is gonna be fun! Thanks!
Chinese Milk is full with hormones I'm sure of it XD
Nice vid for this sesh 😅
Bulky Hard Double 💪 for a quality podcast with legit dudes, time flew fast by it.
Wow i wasnt expecting this but i sure as fuck dont mind!
Geoff just casually making me rethink life after mentioning the possible evolutionary function of men being more emotionally driven in our youth versus rationally driven as we get older. Yes, it's common knowledge, but the way he phrased made it awesome.
Geoffrey is awesome!!
Lmao there are DEFINITELY fake natty’s in the WNBF.
Hey steve would it be possible to add the timestamps in the spotify podcast version too ? Love your content !
Another banger 💯👌
That will be a good one
natty here. I appreciated this
All these mfs online told me not to do a bro split and not to trains muscle group only once a week and it’s only for juiced up bodybuilders. so my first year I listened and trained everything twice a week. And started to notice my strength wasn’t really growing up after a while because I wasn’t refreshed enough. I switched to body parts once a week and i notice I was making progress again lol. Self experimenting is very important.
What people fail to realize is that frequency in the long run doesn’t matter. You can have two guys, one do full body twice a week and another do a bro split, and after 5 to 7 years, as long as those two guys are training hard, consistent, progressive overload, getting good sleep in, getting their protein in, etc they will both have similar amount of muscle gained. Maybe a 1 or 2 lbs different.
Training your muscle group once a week or twice a week or three times week doesn’t give make any significant differences in terms of muscle growth in the long run.
People are looking at the tree instead of the forest.
I loved this video sooo much and its interesting what you said about going to failure and brain fog because ive had that in the past but its mostly from going to failure on lower body exercises ive noticed it went away if i only went to failure on upper body and then 2rir on lower body. Maybe its different because im young also but ye
Whoa, what a collab
I hate seeing all these young dudes who are barely 20 and haven’t even trained for a couple years yet turning to PEDs. They haven’t finished developing both physically or mentally yet and are not really mature enough to be making such a decision.
I have mad respect for Steve for waiting until he had over a decade of training naturally and been in his later 20s before making such a decision and actually been smart about starting with a lower dose.
44:00 oh yes man it's an experience with every working set 😂💀
Yes Geoff is the man 😎🎩
'love of the training will get you results not the XYZ study' that's so fucking true. Doing what u love consistently with good effort regardless of optimization will give u far better results than optimal trrainign that u hate
22:38 No way he named fake natty brian decosta lol
For some things i go to failure like arms. Legs usually 2-3 rir. My legs are already too big for my upper half.
There is video footage of one of the top ex phys researchers (Brad Schoenfeld) "training to failure" with John Meadows. You can see in the video that what Schoenfeld thinks is failure isn't really failure. Which makes you think that all his research studies on training to failure weren't really on training to failure.
This if gunna be epic, gunna eat a tub of ice cream while watching this, thankyou
37:23 Exactly💯, I like this guy.
That was great, the amount of non-important information I have gained from science based people is astounding compared to just running difference programs and listening to anecdotes.
Even stuff we seem to have solid information on like protein intake. GVS isn’t the first guy on YT talking about intuitive eating for a cut and looking better than a lot of guys I assume are on TRT because they never address it online and their clickbait videos look like low intensity, bad training for instagram. I look like dogshit but I made my most gains just trying to hit 70g of protein and not worrying about being optimal at all, getting my sleep solid, and making progress through the training and remaining stress free.
The state of the information marketplace is awful and I don’t blame 16-22 year olds for hopping on just to look like an average athlete because it seems the algorithm favors that and it may legitimately be the best way to crawl your way up the algo for someone who has fully committed to it at a young age like Sam Sulek.
Ooh nice crossover.
Hey Steve,
Kom je nog wel eens naar NL ? :)
Apparently, I am one of the only natural competitive powerlifters with a dots over 450 who watches your channel, so I can chime in with my thoughts. I have ran (to completion) a couple sheiko #s, stronglifts 5x5 (
My theory on why everyone sucks is that most of the content is focused on muscles bigger and fat loss. I came in through powerlifting which is strength focused, and one of the first things you learn is there is more to how strong you are than muscles bigger, so I have other things in the exercise world to look into. A lot of guys won't do an exercise if it does not directly make your muscles bigger. So you can't really make videos about other stuff.
After being around the industry for so many years, the vast majority of people don't have the personality to follow instructions long enough to see results. The exercise science people are often recruiting people who can follow instructions much better than the majority of the population well like college students. Start looking at the personalities of people complaining about not seeing results before looking at anything else and its like the same thing every time.
@teavana444 How do you do a lengthened Bench partial? Also, do you find overloading in non lengthened partials like board pressing have more strength carry-over? Also interested in which programme worked best for you? Sorry for so many questions just found your comment interesting
24:40 hahaahahaha you bad boy 😂😂
What youtube channels get subscribers with is what they’ll have to do to get em to keep watchin
Comment for the alg. 🎉
I think AAS should be something you don’t do until 25 preferably 30
Definitely unless your trying to go make a living off it, which is still unlikely
Great podcast do more with Geoff. I hate clickbait and i will stop watching once i realize ive been bamboozled
Instead of jumping into steroids-- jump into mental health, strength, and natural martial prowess.
Wow !
Algo!
Im getting so tired of people down playing how big you can get naturally. Most of these people train for 3-5 years, hit some sort of strength or muscle gain platue and are just like "oh I've hit my natty limit after 5 years so anyone still making any kind of gains after that point must be on gear" when most guys will still make progress after 10+ years. Sure the average guy by year 10 will only be gaining 1lb or less every year or so but thats still progress. These are just the guys that never dedicated themselves to building muscle and now every guy bigger than them is automatically not natty.
👍🏽💯🔥
Anybody who looks bigger than Steve Reeves isn't natural.
Why does bro always have the 2015 android quality
I'm pretty sure Derek walked back his comments on Ronnie being natural on stage similarly he no longer thinks in the golden era they were just using 2 dbol a day (5mg's each) and a shot of primo.
I still think Ronnie was natural when he turned pro, but you never know. Maybe with natural he meant 1,000mg Test and a couple IUs of GH, just the basic stuff XD
@@VigorousSteve In my opinion, it doesn't even matter. It makes no difference in my life if Ronnie was natural, on a bit of drugs, on a lot, or blasting at that point.
It is possible that he was natural (given the fact he gained over 70 pounds of muscle after that), but he could have been taking something back then.
Either way, not worth debating it at this point.
People dont realize you can look saucy as a natty if you just train hard af and eat/supplement right
In an instagram post yeah or even in the gym with a pump at your peak of the cut but just hanging around single digit bodyfat no pump no nothing you look small af .
You can sit by the river and wait for enlightenment to cross or you can pay $5 for the ferry. As much as it'd be nice to wait on gear my Dad started DBOL at 15 and a bunch of other college football players did too
98.8% non-natty
Yes he is
Why does he have to use the full name like that lol
I think a lot of the critique of science is just misunderstanding the purpose of science. GVS's summary like it's a starting point for beginners isn't a critique it's the stated goal of the scientists . People shouldn't look to science to tell them their own prescriptive answer it's supposed to be a starting point to whittle down the BS get closer to generalizable truths on average and does more to work towards understanding mechanisms and it's dumb people trying to misapply science that's worth critiquing
So you can be natural+natural. Welcome to 2024 😆
Long form killed the short story-o star!
TRT is enhanced imo
Anyone who has used peds wants everyone else wants to use peds too
I don't think so, maybe for such an adult man who has all the other basic building blocks in good care, clearly genetically gifted and if I could see that his life situation, motivation and goals would clearly benefit from the use of AAS, then why not, but for everyone, no never.
@@JJOV00 We still want everyone to use peds even if it is not right for them now, then we just want them to get in the right position to use them first of course, preferably as soon as possible
@@Vitorruy1 Also if you get gyno, one solution is to get other people to get gyno too so you are not the only one, it's cheaper than surgery
After 8 years of natural training I have recently jumped to the dark side (I am now taking creatine).
Some people are 7ft tall some are 4ft tall, some have 48inch vertical leap, some can dive for 10 minutes+ straight, so on and on, when it comes to muscle building somehow genetics or outliers doesn’t apply according to some people🤔
No one is saying genetics do not matter, in fact that is what almost everyone in the fitness industry says.
We are only saying that you should't focus on your own genetics, because you cannot change them, so why worry about them.
Yup. You can acknowledge your genetics without being blackpilled about it and sell yourself short.
@@weakest_serb youre clearly not the kind of person being referred to by the comment..
@@weakest_serbthat’s exactly what i’m trying to imply, I’m mostly referring to the natty doomers that goes around accusing others instead of focusing on ticking boxes and see for themselves what is possible to achieve, which is ironic, the ones that did put in the work and acquired success you will rarely see acting that way.
Hope he goes not natty. He has great genetics.
Lol if u belive he is natty
@@fuckgoogle6091you got a lot to learn if you don’t think he’s natty 😂
@@sk8orhate55 I’ve forgot more about gear and lifting than you have ever learned
@@fuckgoogle6091 so you're dumb?
@@fuckgoogle6091yeah dude. he cannot be 24 ffmi. I, as a 24 ffmi natural person, would know..
GVS is not the biggest guy at his gym 😅
