- Talk's Ian Collins reacts to a £38 million “virtual” centre that will study whether alternative protein sources such as lab-grown meat, plant proteins and insects could become part of the UK diet.
The National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre (Napic), headed up by the University of Leeds, will explore whether cultured meat or proteins derived from plants, fungi, algae, insects and microbes can be healthy as well as sustainable.
As well as academics, more than 120 organisations are involved, including small and large businesses, farmers, regulators and councils, according to Professor Anwesha Sarkar, project leader for Napic and director of research and innovation at Leeds’ School of Food Science and Nutrition.
Ian says: "Are we turning vegan by stealth?"

This is the WEF playbook being forced on us.
Shouldn't you be on crackbook smoking more misinformation?
SUPPORT BRITISH FARMERS.
Not a chance. I'm going to keep eating meat. These vegans make me want to eat even more of it
so many unhealthy people ..i blame vegan diets and the need for regular supplements ,,,,,,,weak bones and muscle ..unhealthy teeth....fatigue....etc
@karen4609 best thing I done was going on a high protein diet with red meat, chicken and plenty of eggs all while lifting weights. I've built a ton of muscle and lost a ton of body fat.
When I done 5 years as a vegetarian, I felt fatigued constantly and I was obese.

Been a herbivore for decades never have liked the taste or texture of meat it is what it is. No sign of antlers appearing though.
You eat all the grass you want mate . I'm getting my protein from the farmers not the scientists ! And I buy my beef , lamb ,eggs , cheese direct from my local farmers within a 5km radius .
Exactly 💯 Dale's business benifits from Stammer the dictatorship.
well said
That's my plan from now on 🙏
We will have to eat plant based food and synthetic meats because the globalists said it's the normal - the WEF DIET wake up if you ain't up for it don't shop in the supermarkets that sell it MAKE A STATEMENT if you care.
But a cow eats grass so surely that's a plant based meat ????
No because the grass isn’t real anymore
@@user-np4ib3nl2l I truly believe a vegan has know where to go on this one as building alot of plants industrial style would be ridiculous 🤣
We need to get the carrots to riot to stop the genocide of lettuce by these monsters!
If they want to bring in lab grown meat they still need animals for the cells required for the genetic engineering, which is stressful and painful for the animals, it's similar to using bears for their bile which is an obscene and brutal practice. Starmer is the worst thing to happen to the UK in my lifetime the sooner he and Labour are gone the better for society it will be.
Don't you think that's a slight exaggeration? Have you seen how the cells are obtained from an animal?
He looks like he needs a rare steak.
Thou shalt eat meat.
£38 MILLION..... we the British public will never get to benefit from or get back
I will stick to real meat thank you very much
If it tasted as good I'd buy stuff like Quorn. Both it's like eating cardboard, and to add insult to injury it costs more than meat.
I’ll pass thanks, can’t beat the real thing.
And it's usually cheaper too!
I recall an old quote about our species: Humans can't EAT grass, but we CAN eat things that do...
I won't make the missed steak of going vegan or veggie
😂
When it comes to food I have a very simple purchasing policy. If it tastes good, and isn't extortionately priced then buy it. Rubbish like Quorn fails on both counts.
Then surely you approve of people trying to improve quorn to make it easier to produce and taster? Literally who is hurt by trying to make it better?
@@trevormannsfield Yes, if it can be made tasty enough and sold at a fair price then I'll eat it.
Gifting to chums is not investing
McDonald's tried their plant burger and oh what a surprise it didn't sell and was dumped. No way starmer can cancel meat
It wasn’t dumped
I’m literally eating grilled leftist before insects - not joking … be like a bit of pork belly , most of them are fat enough.
There isn't much meat on a vegan ?😂
Where do they get their vitamins from, the local farmer or butcher or fishmongers.
I was brought up veggie, my mum said I could choose to eat meat once I left home. She just always said to make sure the meat is from a good source, where animals have been treated well while they were alive.
I chose to stay veggie as there are plenty enough options to be able to eat well without meat.
People choose to eat meat and that is their right to their choice. It would be a dream if all the best most ethically sourced meat was affordable, but for most people it is unaffordable, so they are only left with the option of the cheaper unethically sourced meat. I am not going to judge people for what they can/can’t afford or what food they put in their tummy.
"dale, do you remember the last time you ate meat ?"......"er yeah, the last time i was happy was 40 years ago".
Grass is mostly cellulose which humans cannot digest. How much protein is there in grass?? Not much i'll wager so how much will this cost to farm, water, fertilise etc??
You can eat grass if you want, I’m not a cow, although I will eat beef.
He’s so Beta 😂
Jim Dale, Dale Vince, is there something about the name Dale that makes them complete nutters?
Dale who's benefiting comfortably.
McDonald's have been making burgers out of water for decades. They call it "fillet of fish". 😂
Soylent Green!
I'll stick with real food thanks, quality beef and lamb with eggs, fish and full fat dairy products especially butter
The Babylon bee did an excellent video about how to convert plants into meat ;-)
Bugs for all next....
Slop patty. Cows already make those with gas.
What a melt 😂
Considering how much he's worth, I doubt he'd give a toss what you think of him.
@@Richard482 is that the measure of a man to you? His financial status…. Ok then.
@@Bedmoments No, but it certainly shows he's been very successful, no matter what people think of him.
@@Richard482 does it? What about the likes of Bill Gates and his grotesque wealth and promotion of bug consumption? Does his wealth mean that he is correct? How many vegans and vegetarian do you think will gobble up his bug pulp? Or will they think “ Bill Gates is an incredibly successful and wealthy bloke so he must be right… pass me some of that beetle pie”.
@@Richard482 my comment back has been deleted/removed already, no offensive rhetoric, derogatory remarks so I won’t waste my time on this site anymore. Thanks for the chat my friend.
I have been vegan for 6 year's and I won't be eating fake meat I cook from scratch with fresh vegetables it's cheap and with plenty of spices tastes good
Lie after Lie from the vegan
Much cheaper to get renewable energy? Lol then why are energy bills skyrocketing the less we drill for oil and gas and the more windmills we build?
Gas still provides the majority of our power on a yearly bases, and the cost of electricity is tied to the price of natural gas.
Protein from grass? Which proteins and are they "The essential amino acids" we can't make ourselves or something else.. Total bollocks from EcoBoy...
Trying to convince pple that meat labs are a new thing in Satan’s land
Nope will only eat real meat just frugal with it. No waste!
How's about 🦆 off!!
Moo cows eat grass I eat moo cows that's where I get my protein. And as far I I now if moo cows didn't eat grass they would die from not having any protein. Hence th hey do get protein from eating vegatable matter
I actually quite like Quorn.
Nobody is forcing you to eat them... This is such a weird thing to get outraged by.
You're missing the point somewhat.
Lunacy we need meat a lot of people get b12 low levels and then need injections I know I have had it you should not be doing this to humans let starmer and his cronies eat it and we will eat te meat thankyou
It can happen to meat eaters too. The main reason why people end up b12 deficient is because they aren't producing intrinsic factor.
Vegan spare ribs from Sainsbury’s are very good , the taste and texture are wonderful. I’m a meat eater but for the sake of my health I’m happy with non meat and dairy alternatives quite often.
Exactly, good for you, so much choice these days, why anyone would want to eat animals and get sick in the process is beyond me
Not meat horrible
@@Terence-zb5cb meat is horrible, decaying murdered animal fresh 🤮
But meat and dairy are very good for you. There is zero evidence these fake meat products are healthier. Stop being an npc and think for yourself.
