  • It has been an incredible 3 YEARS with the BMPCC4K! We have been all over with this camera from remote Alaska to underwater towns. In this review, I break from the traditional heavy technical review as I've covered this extensively, and talk more from a personal and experience standpoint while at the same time making sure to show a TON of videos that we took over the course of 3 years. Going through all of this footage reminds me, as always, that filming is best done with friends and it wouldn't be half as good as the people you get to do it with! So thanks to everyone who is in this video for all you have done for the channel over the years! Hope you enjoy it!

    This was a pleasure to put together! A lot of great memories with friends and people I met along the way filming! As always, don't let your camera gear, place in life, or skill level keep you from getting out and filming and making your own adventures instead of watching others! Thank you to all who have been part of the last 3 years with this amazing camera!

    Outstanding video. I grow tired of specs and having to have the latest. I am just starting with my newly purchased BMPCC *FOUR* K, and looking forward to becoming a good videographer. I am a big researcher and can't think of ANYONE on CZcams who has demonstrated more the value and JOY of this camera. I do feel like 6k will give an extra advantage for cropping or being able to both film in 4k for vertical and horizontal at the same time, to make it future proof, cause right now w a 4k camera you have little wiggle for cropping and basically 1080p vertical (which is fine for now) or 4k vertical but no landscape simultaneously

    Nice video. I have preordered my bmpcc4k in the summer of 2018 and go it in April 2019( it was worth the wait though). This camera was the first to give pro level resolution, dynamic range, iso sensitivy, readout speed and codec all in one affordable package. This is the first camera to give the masses the ability to produce pro level moving images and it only asks for appropriate glass and a skillful operator. Thank you Black Magic.

    My BMPCC4K was my A cam for a couple of years and now my B cam / Backup. It has so much going for it, especially if you add a speed booster. I’d recommend it as a viable option to anything else under $5K for video just depending on your preferences. But yeah the 6K is amazing too if you are ok with the crop and larger file sizes.

      I dont even care about autofocus and ibis anymore. There are of course exceptions in certain projects where sony is better and i do carry an a7siii in my backbag just in case but 90% of my projects the pocket 4k earns its money

    Great video on a great camera. Been using it for a number of years but looking to get an Ursa (probably G1 for price reasons) mainly because it looks like most jobs require basically anything other than MFT (usually full frame for some reason) I feel like people dont realise how powerful the 4K is. But if they know you have a full frame camera or a big rig like the Ursa they automatically think you'll produce something way better which isn't really true

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, unfortunately the optics are a thing to consider when getting camera gear. I have an URSA G2 and use that as my A cam most of the time on shoots. The added DR in it does give it a slight edge, but I've always liked how the images came out of the p4k for creative stuff

      I think it's a good camera if you are already in the MFT game, otherwise I'd look elsewhere. I'm getting one to test out here at somepoint soon to really put those opinions to the test but that's kind of what my gut feeling is on the camera. Not saying it's a bad camera at all! But this little cam is so flexible and the image just gets better ad better the more I use it. Iv'e started putting Zeiss Milvus glass on it now (with and without a metabones .64xl) and the image is stellar. Hi
    I love the BMPCC4K...ok I did get some IR polution but Hoya filter resolved it actually I shot mostly concerts multicam but my main camera A and the Solist close up is BMPCC4K...love the skin tones the smooth image not oversharpend...and Braw codec.
    My other cameras are GH4,2*GH5 and GH5s...they are more convenient but I run Bmpcc4k on tripod with np970 3h straight battery life is not a problem.
    I love it on a rig...so I am still looking for a 7 camera in my setup for gimbal work with AF or easy focus pooling maybe with tilta M...maybe upgrade with new gimbal...maybe will stick with BMPCC4K or wait for the BOX cameras...
    Still not sure for what to go maybe another BMPCC4K and Aperture led lights Meike or Zhoghiye T1 ciné Lens or the 7 artisan.
    Maybe Gh6 if the autofocus deliver it...or Bmpcc4k with DJI lidar system.

    I have tried--really, really tried--to talk myself into 'upgrading' to one of Blackmagic's 'better' cameras: 6K, 6K pro, or Ursas. Honestly, I tried because it's fun buying new gear.
    Nonetheless I've been unable to make any rational argument for using a camera other than my 4K. I'd rather spend the money on travelling to an interesting location, for instance.
    Moreover, about 90% of my shooting is done with this combo: 4k -> Metabones Canon EF to BMPCC4K T CINE -> Canon EF 24-105mm f4. Sure, I have a long lens, some fixed, and wider, just in case.
    At any rate, if someone has good reasons why I should buy a 'better' camera, I'm a willing and eager listener. Meanwhile as I apply a LUT that mimics the ALEXA Mini, I'll stick with the 4K and maybe even buy another one as people opt for 'better' cameras. Oh well.

      I mean I can't lie, the URSA G2 footage is 🔥🔥🔥 and I use that as my main cam for most client work. Also, because it looks like a big professional camera lol. But I could probably still do all the work I do on the P4K's. They are really good enough to do a lot of professional work imo. Not as an A cam on a big budget movie, but for music videos, coprorate work, documentary work, etc. It's a great camera to have!

    Im having such a hard time talking myself out of this camera . I truly abhor the fanboyism surrounding it, but im also having a hard time honestly being convinced its color science can be replicated (without having reference shots by which to match the other cameras). That said, the studio editions of these seem massively underrated . Time to figure out whether genlock is an option. I really don’t want to like these cameras, but at their current price points, the 4k seems like an unbeatable value under 1500 with crazy good codecs and image /color quality. Those slow-mo girl on the beach cinematic bmpcc movies need to die tho. Ive spent a ton of time comparing videos from other cameras, and until were in the 3k or higher price bracket is there anything comparable. Maybe the ZVE1,, but ehhhh… idk….

      Hey David,
      I just got one and I've been using the 6k Pro for years and also use Canon r6 mark 2 and Fuji.
      I'll be be honest, I literally bought the bmpcc 4k last night and I haven't been so excited about buying a new camera in years. The 4k is a camera that you can easily grow into and keep improving. For example, you can fix the IR contamination with rawlite olpf. You can fix the smaller sensor size with speed boosters. You can go from mft lenses to full frame. You get the smaller 4k file size vs the 6k. You get Braw. You get amazing color science and dynamic range. You get a smaller body and lighter weight. You can fix the auto focus issue with pdmovie live smart lidar system. You can rig out the camera for vmount batteries perhaps add an easy rig and use the Gyro stabilization to keep things handheld but smooth when needed. Anyways the list goes on. This camera is a beast even in 2023/24. I'd like to see black magic even update it witha better sensor, faster readouts, more frame rate options and slightly higher dynamic range. But even if they don't, this thing is a keeper

  • @quickfilmmakingtips2870

    Great video! As someone who has worked with almost every black magic camera I would recommend people on a budget who are going to rig the camera out anyways to go with the original bmpcc (general consensus on that camera is a more filmic look than the newer ones and way cheaper but not as user friendly). If you don’t want to rig the camera out and can afford it then I would go for the newest 6k pro as its just so convenient (especially with the nd’s and longer battery life)

      @@FrameVoyager Even if you were going for more of a story rather than a straight up review, what's the point of having an introduction (about the camera) which is followed by another intro (the sizzle reel thing with the music) and then yet another intro (I think it was a story or something, I really don't remember). When you are watching videos and you see creators use this format, is it something that you enjoy watching? I feel like there is so much content accessible on You Tube that there is no reason to invest time in something that feels manipulative of my time -something that promises one thing, but delivers another. It's so easy to just click onto another video that I don't see why anyone would invest the time in the video that doesn't deliver what it promised.

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  Před 2 lety +2

      Well the story was the video. The review was my experience using the camera and the stories of how it's features and durability came through. I've done countless technical reviews and more standardized videos over the years, and this one was more to show all of the footage and stories with this camera I've had over the past 3 years and when it helped me out.
      I enjoy hearing about peoples experiences in the field with the camera and how it went more than technical videos. So no, I don't feel like I wasted people's time or made this a ckickbaity title or that it delivers something different than the title "3 years with the BMPCC4K" it's my 3 year experience with the camera 😂
      Considering this has a high click through rate, a retention rate above 60%, and the mostly positive feedback I've received on the video I think people are generally enjoying the video 🤷‍♂️ but I understand it's not content for everyone
