I already preordered one mk2, for wildlife differences are compelling enough.

I'm going to be honest, I'm a Canon guy who shoots with a crop body. It's been working great for me. However, I look at a LOT of photography online, mostly birds. Every once in a while I see a photo which just really stands out, eye bleeding sharp, with fantastic color, and usually I have to ask, "What combo were you shooting with" ? I can't tell you how many times folks have come back with, "I shoot with an OM Zuiko"..... I don't see myself just jumping ship and dumping my whole kit..... But if ever something should happen to my kit (and it is insured) I'd strongly consider an OM system ! Oh, and I need LOTS of reach. My current crop system gives me 1280mm equivalent. But I think 1200 would be just fine :)

This was entertaining and interesting. Even as a Canon user I am looking into OM-1 and a long lens in case I am travelling. The Pro Capture is also a very good argument.
I think that the OM-1 with the 150-600 is a fantastic deal for bird photographers. The problem is that I also want the 150-400. Particularly for bad light.
BTW 2 kilos for a 150-600mm lens is NOT heavy. In fact, it is pretty close in weight to the Zuiko 150-400 and double the weight of the Zuiko 100-400. It is much lighter than my current EF 600 F/4.

I want the 150-400 too, but at that price I don't think it's going to happen. 😂
The 150-600 ain't cheap, but for me it's much more doable.

Thank you for an honest not disrespectful comment. It seems like only Olympus users who not shoot far distant birds/animals complain.
      Thank you.

Liked the bird in flight early on in this video. Always good to listen to you Andy and by the way you are looking well what are you eating.

Anybody can say what is the sharpness difference in 600 mm f6.3 vs 300 mm f4 pro with x2 teleconverter? Marginal or significant?

just bought (back) into the m4/3 world... am struggling to decide if I should get 300 pro (already have 1.4x tc) or this 150-600. I do a lot of wildlife shooting, and no doubt would find the 600 reach awesome, but on the other side I'm selling my big heavy glass (500mm f4/5 prime for example) because it is doing my back in. Lucky to have two awesome options I suppose, both of which are lighter than my big zoom and prime lenses for APSC. Am contemplating used 300, use it, then decide if I need more!

I have an OM-1 Mk1 but I did just order this lens. I'm going to wait for a Mk3 to come out next year and then I'll order another body.

Andy, what is your view of the story that OMDS held off updates (fixes) to the focusing system of the V1 because they decided to bring out the V2?

    • @JoeMaranophotography
      @JoeMaranophotography Před 6 měsíci

I bet that happened for sure. OM systems are going to want to get their moneys worth from buying Olympus.

@Swaggerlot Well I wouldn't do that. Photography is almost impossible to make money from and a decent photographer will get good shots regardless who they are being paid to shoot with so I wouldn't let it bother you :)

I put my Sigma 150-600 on my EM1X once in a while, it doesn't cost me $2700, 6.3 is close to useless in low light, also putting any great lens in front of that tiny sensor it's just waste of money. Speaking from Em1 and EM1X and 300!F4 user, i will not waste another penny on this system.

Danny I’m exactly the same as you with equipment I’m on the brink of purchasing the 150 to 400 mm lens after listening to your comments and having second thoughts. I’ve always got crisp images with the 300 mil let’s put it this way a lot better than Andy has here but then that goes there is no recommendation. 150 mil to 400 mil is 4.5. Would be interested in your thoughts if you could spare the time thanks.

The pixels are compressed it’s not the best format to showcase your images. I am sure that Andy is a better photographer than that.
