Kind of reminds me of how the plot of Jurassic World is like an allegory for itself and other reboots, like you have the greedy executives decide that they aren't making enough money, so they take old things that people love and rehash it into an abomination nobody asked for, which ended up being a disaster in part because they couldn't be assed to put in the love and care it required.
@@battlesheep2552 the problem with jurassic world MANY PEOPLE wanted it. We never see the park running, so that franchise is really something fresh. And there aren't many story with dinosaur, not like zombies. So we wanted ut for nostalgia bait. But the plot & story area complete disaster.

They spent 100's of millions but didn't give woo-ping a call. Huge mistake and that's why the fight scenes aren't in the same league.

I saw that scene in theaters and thought "there's no way they made the movie like that right?" then after the third extended fight scene with enough gunfire to deafen a small child I realized that's exactly what they did

I definitely wasn’t a fan of the forgettable quick cut fight scenes. The well choreographed fights from the originals were so awesome. Also “You No Weaving” 😂
Quick cut are the bane and butter of todays action movies: It is easy to produce so it cost less but it sucks so much that any movie/show not doing it is considered good now.
You No Weaving had me in tears for like 20 minutes
Even in the two sequels the fight scenes felt gratuitous and pointless. Just CGI guys beating up on each other until one of them runs away.

Matrix Revolutions came out in 2003. I was in kindergarten at the time. Since then, I have finished primary school, started high school, finished high school, started college, finished college, and found a full-time job that I've been working for a year and a half now. They're not exaggerating about the adult children who grew up between the movies.
Literally saw the movie with my mom and adult brother after my college graduation 🤣
This movie was so self aware that I couldn't tell whether it was insulting the audience or the movie studio. Case in point, the action scene with Bugs sliding down a building sign with the words "EAT SH*T" on it and a *LITERAL* middle finger lurking in Neo/Thomas Anderson's office among his various awards and action figures.
I'll take audience for four hundred.
It's insulting both, and that's what bothers me. I mean, I'm fine with Lana Wachowsky throwing some jab at WB; they kinda deserved it, but I don't think the audience does.

But now I know what Lana Watchowsky (and WB) thinks of her audiences, and I'll react accordingly in the future.
The matrix became self aware on Dec 22, 2021 and began learning at a geometric rate

The "Bugs" thing is kind of funny because WB seems to have forgotten why the Bunny was named that way (apart from alliteration reasons). "Bugs" was a slang word that meant "crazy".

This movie won me over by admitting that they were forced to make it. I couldn't hate on its efforts under such honest circumstances.

My dad came home from seeing this with my mom and they immediately started watching Sharknado. Said they needed to watch anything better than The Matrix IV to wash it out of their mind.

It was cool until they felt the overwhelming need to force the good robots to be... Disney Plushy CUTE just to make sure you know they're the good robots no matter how stupid that is. Which was immediately so. You know. I guess it just wasn't cool the whole time. It could've been cool though.
The funny thing about this movie was it had the self-awareness to know it could offer something genuinely smart-if still obviously derivative. The first half was all about acknowledging that connection, and I think the way it did so was unconventional and even a little subversive. That made it kind of exciting. The problem is you can’t just break the fourth wall about making a soulless cash-grab sequel and then actually go and do it. Robbing a bank and telling everyone about how you’re robbing the bank and how it’s “so bad” but you just “have to do it” does *not* make robbing a bank any more OK.
In fact, I would have been happy if only they had still delivered on amazing action sequences that the Matrix was already known for. Instead we got insanely bland fight scenes with all of the magic taken out of them. No long takes featuring a flurry of exchanged blows between opponents, or even just clearly decipherable action filmmaking. Nope. We get the same crappy cut-cut-cut that Hollywood cranks out hundreds of times each year. It’s a shame too, because I even liked the new characters and thought they had real potential. But when you look at the finer details of the craftsmanship that went into making the film, it just kinda falls apart.
100% agree. That was the best part of the original matrix movies, was that the action scenes pulled the camera back and you could enjoy and actually see what the F was going on. The close ups they did do had purpose not just quick cuts to supposedly increase excitement.
Maybe it is just me, but all that up close 1-2 second cut fight scene crap is really distracting and just leaves me confused and uninterested.

They were all good ideas. It's one of those movies where on paper, this could've been an a amazing movie that stands out from the other films but somehow when you put it together, it's just a awkward sequel. And that really goes to the writers and the choice of director. The Wachowskis already ruined the sequels and made Jupiter Ascending. That alone is a sign that they shouldn't be responsible for writing or directing another movie and hopefully this movie will put them to rest. I think it would've been a much better movie if they had new people involved, a different director that knows how to shoot good action, create subtlety and hire genuine good writers who probably understood the Matrix better than the goddamn creators do. It probably would then be a Wes Craven's New Nightmare of the Matrix, a actual clever meta that does it's own thing while keeping the things that made the original so good like what New Nightmare did.

I appreciate that some of the natural evolution of society that I always though would happen, like the senthients and humans on the same side. The action sequences were...well yeah. I mean we know Keanu can still go, so I don't really see why they didn't make that effort. I love that this was basically Neo and Trinity's love story rebooted and especially that ending. But I'm a sucker for a happy ending so I'm fine with it. Though honestly making a film about the Machine Civil War would've certainly been worthwhile. Call it The Matrix Realities or The Matrix Reordered.

@@gargoyles9999 The faction of Machines that he made peace with fragmented, had a civil war, and a faction that still wanted to subjugate humans.
The fragmentation of occurred because the humans freed so man red pills that the Matrix's power output drastically decreased.
The faction that still wants humans fully subjugated won the machine civil war, what's left is more of a cold war than anything. The machines aren't actively hunting for Io, but they also aren't really happy about them freeing people either.
THEY DIDN'T KILL EITHER NEO OR TRINITY FIRST TIME EVER
This is like the new star wars trilogy effect...it just made you love the old matrix sequences.
I remember watching this and my mom would laugh and nudge me every time they said a meta line or made a fourth wall-breaking reference. I almost envy her for her childlike excitement seeing such things.
I had some actual excitement when they made the references subtle, like having the same lobby for a scene, or in the first smith fight, him dragging neo into the subway where they had their big fight.
You know, the shots where they didn't hammer it over your head like "OH MY GOD THIS IS FROM THE MATRIX!!!"

i was watching lord of the rings yesterday for the 100th time and at the battle of minas trith when I was getting goosebumps for the 100th time at "arise, arise riders of theoden" all I could think was, what the hell happened to cinema
how can a movie from 20 years ago be this amazing, a masterpiece that would stand for the ages and now its all like cartoons and not in a good way...
Same goes for the original Matrix. Absolute perfection, unrivalled to this very day

If you're tired of quick cut fight scenes search: Atomic Blonde 10 min fight scene 4k - not one cut for the entire scene despite massive amounts of damage taken so it's like a work of art how they apply all the makeup etc and weave it together into one shot. One of the greatest fight scenes I've ever watched!
Funny thing is John wick movies & Atomic blonde are both directed by people who were stunt personnel on The Matrix.

Hollywood has become to me like Pizza Hut. Initial happy experiences motivated me to go back again and again, but after being disappointed each time, I am now ignoring both for the most part.
They should of focused on the machine civil war. Neo's consciousness/spirit/soul is absorbed or transferred into the machine sentience somehow kind of like what Smith does, and his influence enlightens some of the machines to where they are both human and machine and brought Keanu back the way they brought Morpheus back.
Get out of here with your good ideas.
The Machine Civil War gotta be the greatest example of a movie's backstory being leagues better than the movie itself since the opening montage to X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The saddest thing: Just the fact that *the original Morpheus and most of the people Neo and Trinity had kinship with, Link, Ghost, Lock, Kid, Roland, the Oracle, have passed away after the final battle at Zion.* Niobe is the very last one left. This is especially one to those who loved those iconic characters.

Omg yes. WAY MORE self away meta than Resurrections. I remember sneaking scenes of New Nightmare on TV back when it came out and being so obsessed with it since I was NOT allowed to watch any scary movies. I didn't even know or understand who Freddy was. Years later in middle school I was finally allowed to watch scary movies and THEN finally realized who Freddy was lol. New Nightmare is by far still the best in the entire franchise imo.
It's not that hard to be better than the original franchise, which I really enjoyed, but was overall bad.

so glad i could fast forward through most of this movie. I didn't think anything could be worse than the Matrix 3 but this sure made that one look great by comparison.
The movie was so bad it brought me endless joy. I was laughing almost all through the last 30 minutes.
Pure insanity without breaks. It’s amazing. 2nd worst movie I have seen in cinema but it brought me joy and laughter.
Also, whoever casted Neil Patrick Harris should never be allowed to cast again. He breaks any shred of seriousness the movie was trying to achiebe

Definitely don't. Keep the happy memories of the trilogy. Its like seeing someone in their last moments. That image of them sticks in your memory. Remember them in happier times.
Nooo, check it out! It's unique even if eventually flawed. But the meta levels are so high theyneed to be applauded.
honestly the first third to half of it is actually pretty good - right up until they get Neo out of the Matrix again

I did not expect the best burn of The Matrix Resurrections Honest Trailer to be on Ben Platt. But I should have.
I left from the theatre with that song playing in my head " What goes up must come down ".
That cover of RATM at the end summed up how the whole movie made me feel.

I actually think the french man literally rambling random french words at neo before escaping was funny. There was a lot that they tried to do with this that could have worked if they gave it a bit of another pass on the script and if they had shot the movie with the right level of suspense and action. Maybe covid hurt the filming but we'll never really know since this has absolutely killed the matrix for now anyways...
Nah rewatched the trilogy for the millionth time this past weekend and seeing this poor excuse of a movie made me appreciate it even MORE

It was out of place. There's a huge fight going on and it cuts to some guy babbling. Multiple times. Mid action. So stupid.
I'm one of the few people who actually love this movie and the only part I don't understand is wtf the Merovingian is even doing here other than a repeat the meta already done for an hour at this point.
I loved seeing Merovingian again. But after a minute into the fight, his screaming became annoying.
