- Yin and Yang Release are both really cool in concept so it's a shame the audience barely got any information about either one. That also makes my job harder since I have to do a whole lot of guessing and reading between the lines and whatnot.
Regardless, this was a fun subject to talk about. Hope you guys enjoy.

Without a doubt; writers are a lot more focused on what's happening in the moment, what the big overarching theme is, and what the memorable past events are that they can allude to; they're not gonna catch minor contradictions in story or power like Swagkage or Seth do, and they're not gonna care about lack of detail if it doesn't matter to the story

@@mrprotoman154 I don't think anyone claimed to be smarter here. I highly doubt Swag actually sees lack of info about a release as a real issue. He's like a Naruto scholar, and as a scholar, he's j pointing out that the "primary sources" didn't give him (a secondary source) much to work with.

When it comes to Naruto it's definitely like this
I believe Yang Release has to do with life in general. When Hagoromo created the tailed beasts, he first used Yin Release to give them form, then "breathed life" into them using Yang Release.
Also, his descendants show traits that relate to each of the two.
The Uchiha have the Sharingan, that gives them jutsu based on Yin Release (as far as I could tell). Genjutsu is Yin Release, while Amaterasu, Izanami and Susano'o are basically the user's imagination given physical form (again, Yin Release).
The Senju, on the other hand, are gifted in their vital energy. They live longer and are more durable.
The reason why (prominent) members of both clans tend to have large amounts of chakra may well be explained by that affinity as well. Chakra is a combination of physical energy (stamina, lifeforce, etc) and spiritual energy (self explanatory). While the Uchiha have great spiritual energy (the basis for Yin Release), the Senju have great physical energy (the basis for Yang Release).
Seeing how Medical Ninjutsu treats the body and how Naruto after acquiring Hagoromo's Yang power could heal Gai and restore Kakashi's eye, I'd guess it's Yang Release-based.
Just my two cents. Might be kinda right, or completely wrong.

Amateratsu and Susanoo are not Yin Release. Naruto used Yin-Yang Release to create a new eye for Kakashi

i had a theory that the "secondary elemental release" like amateratsu, and black lightning, both had some fusion of Yin release and the element with them, as far as what Susanoo is, its difficult to discribe, but it probably has something to do with yin release, like the shadow possession jutsu, giving something ethereal a physical form, and dont ask what that means or what is ethereal that they give form to, because i dont know

Konan and Sai both use Yang release for their techniques. She breathes life into paper and he breathes life into ink. Also the wiki says they both have yang release chakra

Easy explanation, yang release is the modification of the physical state of a vessel. The eight inner gates are a great representation of this claim. This is why the expansion jutsu is a yang release technique. Basically any jutsu that alters a physical vessel or creates an object OUTSIDE the user's chakra. Which makes me believe shadow clone jutsu is a yang release technique.
Time for a quick Kakashi lesson. I am pretty sure the shadow Clone justu is Yin release, while transformation justu is yang release. The very first jutsus academy students usually learn. It's more common than many people realize. The shadow clone focuses on replicating oneself by splitting his chakra. However what makes the shadow clone different is that it makes the clones near identical to the real person. We know it's yin release because of the "shadow" in front of clone, quite literally lol. The next is the basic transformation jutsu which uses yang release. Like the akimichi clan's expansion jutsu(Choji's clan) the person can use it to alter their appearance, shape and size. Yin release controls the spirtual concepts like genjutsu and the nara clans shadow "possession" jutsu. Pretty much anything that has spirituality involved is yin release. The reaper death seal is yin release, reanimation jutsu is yin release, medical ninjutsu is yin release. While Yang release controls the physical. Pretty much any ninjutsu that has to do with the vitality(life or liveliness), like wood style or light release. Not taijutsu because that is simply martial arts. Yin and yang are nature transformations means it has to be a ninjutsu or genjutsu which is basically ninjutsu. Yeah thanks a lot kishimoto.

It's not that they only have 11 clans it's that the only clans they ever gave the spotlight to were those 11 (12 if you count sasuke, but i think we know enough about the uchihas) and heck you can cut out one more by removing Rock Lee from that since he doesn't even have a clan.

Technically the 8 gates are not ninjutsu. All Jutsu involve channeling, shaping, and manipulating chakra you create, whereas the 8 gates power involves opening the gates, which takes no chakra to do. That 8 gates is technically not something you need to learn, either, because everyone with chakra possesses the gates and presumably all you need to manipulate them is willpower, so you could open the gates without realizing that's what you were doing. The 8 gates just allow you to channel more chakra and increases the body's physical capabilities. However, if the gates actually _were_ a ninjutsu, then they would _definitely_ be a Yang release technique.

It's hard to explain such a thing especially this 2 doesn't have any screen time or official explanations.
The strength of a hundred seal is called infuin (yin seal) because it splits the spiritual (Yin) half of the chakra from the physical (Yang) half and stores the Yin half, hence the name Infuin. It also gives an explanation to how Tsunade's Sozo Sasei-Byakugo no Jutsu when using the Infuin works; she is using Yin and Yang release simultaneously in a ratio which is almost equivalent (Yang is more) and regenerating at such high capacity making it very close to yin-yang release. But Taijutsu is different because aside from Gama Kumite, Juken, Goken, and the Eight Gates there is no use of Chakra hence no connection to yang release, plus the Chakra these moves employ is pure with no distinct element (aside from Hinata's Juho, Neji's Juken Air palm, or Naruto's nature Chakra in Gama Kumite). Thus I have split the categories based on Chakra type and nature:
1)Taijutsu- Stamina and some Chakra enhancements
2)Genjutsu- Yin release
3)Ninjutsu- Chakra of any kind
4)Iryojutsu(Medical Jutsu)- Yang release
5)Senjutsu- Nature Chakra
6)Fuinjutsu- Combination of Yin and Yang release in unequal ratio to form something on a lower scale and slightly different Yin-Yang release style. (This includes Kuchiyose no Jutsu)
7)Juinjutsu- Combination of Fuinjutsu and Chakra Flow. Sometimes including Senjustu.
Ex. Orochimaru's Curse Mark of Life/Heaven/Earth
P.S.- The Akimichi clan Hiden Jutsu are Yang release because of the fact that it breathes shape (mass) into the user's body and changing said body's PHYSICAL properties

I'd like to believe yang release relies heavily on physical energy and power the same way yin release relies on spiritual energy and power allowing them to do stuff that seem normal for a ninja to do in the naruto world but in fact they are using basic yang release. yang release just goes unnoticed because it is easy to master and manipulate. whenever they are seen doing things that normal people aren't capable of doing like jumping extremely high, running really fast, have better stamina, endurance, and resiliency, are able to knock or throw someone extremely far, walking up trees etc. etc. they arent just relying on physical power or chakra but instead relying on their yang release capabilities to preform this. as ninja rely on pure yin release for basic gen jutsu they also rely on pure yang release to preform basic tai jutsu. thats why chojis claimed that his human bolder expansion is a tai jutsu move and its been noted that it is a form of yang release. I think its weird though that choji doesn't train as much as he should but is able to preform these incredible jutsu his calorie intake is extreme though. i think that is because he doesn't rely on his physical power or tai jutsu capabilities but instead maybe uses his strong yang release to turn his food into instant chakra to fuel his body expansion jutsu. im not sure if im on to anything im just thinking out loud but it kinda does kind of doesn't make sense to me.

I think it's more Yin-Yang. Yin Release is vague at best but I find its potential fascinating since 'Spiritual' could mean alot of things. Mental. Imagination. Souls. The works.
If what Chiyo did is Yang, it's like giving a new life to a dead body but the thing is, she's only breathing life in general. No specific identity. The "Body" would be alive but "Soul" wouldn't be Gaara. It wouldn't be revival.

He can still go into it, but he will need to call all the tailed beasts for help, which he can actually still do, as Hagoromo told Kurama, that he will be arranging the meetings inside Naruto if the tailed beasts ever wanted to talk to each other.The Sun seal was what gave Naruto the healing power, so he can no longer use it.
Madara and Obito also had the Juubi inside of them and they did get six paths powers. So yes, tailed beasts have everything to do with the mode. And Naruto does go into it in one of the chapters of Gaiden. The difference between Kyuubi Sage Mode and Six Paths Sage Mode is that Naruto doesn't have the orange pigmentation around his eyes, when he is in so6p. And that is precisely what happens when he fights one of those white guys in Gaiden. So yes he can still go into so6p. He doesn't have the Orbs simply because he lost them all.
when obito tried to extract the tailed beast from madara he pulled a tiny bit of the one tails and eight tails out and all the tailed beasts talked to naruto and gave him a bit of their chakra (apart from one and eight tails) so when naruto talked to hagoromo he got a bit of his chakra but the reason he got six paths was when obito gave him the nine tails to revive him naruto got that eight and one tail chakra obito pulled out so all tailed beast chakra makes the juubi so naruto got a temporary juubi thats also why the tailed beasts can talk to each other in side naruto the only reason its called six paths sage mode is number one he was called the sage of six paths and also naruto had an even better control of senjutsuin six paths mode

Empire Of Gaming If Naruto can regenerate them, because Obito was able to regenerate his. It would make sense that Naruto should be able to make more as he has a substantial amount of chakra through Kurama.
The truth seeker orbs are made of every chakra nature including yin and yang. So that explains why they insta kill.

I thought that Yang release referred to any technique that involved strength or sentience, Like the Shadow clone jutsu which replicates an entire being and seeing as Naruto is a descendent of the Senju Clan this would help explain why he's so naturally proficient at it especially when it normally takes Naruto a decently long time to learn how to do a new jutsu.
Hopefully more light will be shed and expanded upon stuff like this in the Boruto series.

Every time I come to one of Swagkage's videos, I always freestyle to that beat at the end.
The databooks hint a lot at what is actually covered under Yang Release, provided you go through the work of cataloguing the jutsu known of the characters stated to use Yang Release.
Pretty much all medics know Yang Release (there are a couple of Boruto-era exceptions without databook entries), but all the really good medics like Sakura and Kabuto and I think Chiyo and Sasori know Yin, Yang, Earth, and Water Release (side note: Sakura is the only Team 7 kid to know both Yin and Yang Release, which can't be coincidence). The Mystic Palm, the core iryoujutsu that practically defines iryounin, is almost certainly Yang Release, but the Yin Seal (...maybe; see below) and a few of Kabuto's jutsu are Yin Release. Water has some obvious applications for dealing with poison and blood, though the one real example I can point to of this in action is the poison extraction jutsu Sakura used on Kankuro. Earth similarly has a lot of obvious applications for stuff like bones and hemoglobin, though there are no examples.
The Kaguya Clan under this view of Earth being used for bone manipulation would be some kind of Earth/Yang Release I guess (which fits well with the theory that Blaze Release is Yin/Fire).
Yamato specifically stated that the trick with combined Release jutsu is to mold one nature in one part of the body and another in another (usually different hands), and then bring them together, with the obvious implication being that it takes a bloodline to use jutsu of multiple natures simultaneously (whether separate jutsu (not that we ever see this) or as a combined element) (there are no counterexamples). He also stated and showed that Wood Release requires only Earth and Water. Being as chakra use is always a conscious action, this thoroughly sinks the idea that Wood Release requires Yang Release to use. It is clear that Yang and Wood Release have a number of powerful synergies, but this seems to also be true of Wood and Yin, given the way they are both necessary to gain the Rinnegan.
Yang Release shows up in a ton of other places as well. Every Inuzuka knows it, and the similarity of their jutsu to the Akimikchi jutsu is blatantly obvious. Konan also knows it, and it seems obvious that it is the backbone of her paper jutsu. Similarly with Jiraiya's Hari Jizou (though it's a bit of a toss-up where some of his toad and shadow related jutsu fall, as he knows Yin Release as well). I haven't looked this up in a while but I think Yang Release is pretty common among the Aburame as well, and it certainly fits with their life manipulation theme. And Sai's ink jutsu is just blatant and obvious Yang Release as well.
Seals also seem to mostly be a Yang Release thing, as implied by the Uzumaki gift for them. The Adamantine Sealing Chains are certainly Yang Release (I'll also point to the name of Monkey King Enma's Adamantine Staff Transformation in addition to its similarities to the Akimichi and Inuzuka jutsu). This is actually a bit weird since Seals seem to fit more intuitively under Yin Release, but I haven't actually found anyone who knows Yin Release but not Yang Release who uses Seals, whereas Yang but not Yin Seal users are quite common. In fact, the Yin Seal is the ONLY Seal related to Yin in the series, and it could simply be a Yang Release technique that stores Yin chakra, kind of like Jiraiya's Fire Sealing Method.
I'll also just mention that there are a ton of medical Seals , further cementing the link between iryoujutsu and Yang Release.

@@whateverwhatever4476 I don't think Yin and Yang have affinities like the 5 elements. The closest we see to such a thing is Sakura being told her perfect chakra control makes her well-suited to genjutsu.
Although, if we want to go into some really theoretical territory... I think a lot of bloodlines are element+Yin or Yang. The Blaze Release of Amaterasu would be Yin/Fire, Typhoon Release would be Wind/Yang, Shikotsumyaku would be Earth/Yang (and the All-Killing Ash Bones would be Earth/Fire/Yang), Sakon and Ukon's would be Fire/Water/Yang or something weird like that, etc etc. Since bloodlines involving combining elements generally come with a dual affinity it's possible that these bloodlines would also come with Yin or Yang affinities (Sasuke, nay, the Sharingan is evidence against this however, alas).

The uchihas mangyeko sharingan revolves around the yin and yang concept. Typically a mangyeko has two unique abilites often specific to one eye. For example itachi had amaterasu and tsukiyomi and sasuke had amaterasu and inferno release (manipulation of amaterasu). Each ability represents either yin or yang where in this case amaterasu would be the yang part because it is very physical shapeless and raw power. tsukiyomi and inferno release are yin due to them being "non tangible" and of the mind (inferno style = manipulation of fire with mind). When one can access both parts, the susanoo can be created using both the yin and yang natures because the susanoo is essentially raw physical power that has been molded into a chakra entity by yin. Even in obitos case, the yin and yang sides were physically touching something to teleport and imagining something to teleport and when the two were combined, the susanoo was born. hopefully that gives more information in terms yin and yang release.

I haven't seen anyone mention either of these 2 techniques in the comments so I figured I'd give my theory: it's possible, probable even, that Kimimaro's Shikotsumyaku and Sakkon/Ukkon's unnamed Kekkei Genkai are Yang-based. If Expansion Jutsu, something that modifies the body's calories, is Yang Release, then manipulating bones or anatomy, respectively, probably fits into that nature as well.

What would he talk about? Most of the powers are explained pretty well and it's pretty straightforward from there. Maybe once you get into the really technical stuff that started becoming more apparent towards the end of the original and all of Re: but even that stuff is mostly understandable.

I personally think that yang release include all jutsu that involve altering existing matter seeing that the expansion jutsu is the only official yang release jutsu and it involves enlarging parts/all of the body

rennoc Jones I believe Naruto's Nine Tailed Chakra Mode is different because he is Asura's reincarnation. If you look at Asura's Chakra Avatar when he fights Indra, his and Naruto's powers are very similar.
As for Obito, his Jinchuriki powers aren't that different from Madara's Jinchuriki powers, except Obito's Jinchuriki form isn't as complete as Madara's.

I think Yang Release also has to do with the physical, as the Akimichi Clan can increase their size and strength, and Jirobo( who had the image of the Yang-Yang symbol on his costume) use mainly physical attacks.

99% sure that healing is yang-release. It is not directly breathing life into something, but it is supporting the growth of life. The yin-seal is probably yin-release as it is manipulation of the subconscious, to be precise to store chakra on the forehead.
That would also tie into why the yin-seal is so rare (as holy hell, it is very useful) and tie into the fact that Sakura had a natural disposition for Genjutsu; aka yin-release.

Another thing is also that the generations/reincarnations and clans descended from Indra, the Yin Release brother, all have dojutsu, specifically Sharingan and Rinnegan, and the reincarnations of Asura end up using Sage mode, which is natural energy so like literally life energy and from the physical world. Also the bluffs from each are usually more physical Taijustsu and Sensory bluffs from Sage mode and more hacks and imaginative abilities and genjutsu from the Sharingan and Rinnegan.
And also all the fights/rivalries between Indra and Ashura reincarnations or even their teachers/students end up being Sage mode user vs Rinnegan user. Including finally when we end up with the Yin and Yang half of Hagoromos chakra: Six Paths Sage mode (Yang) and Six Paths Rinnegan (Yin).

Although not specifically stated, it would make sense that the Inuzuka clan ninjutsu falls under Yang release as it alters their physical state during their attacks. The same could be applied to the Gentle Fist used by the Hyuuga clan. Basically any ninjutsu that alters physical attacks through the use of non-elemental chakra could be Yang release, in my opinion.

It would make sense if it has to do with the physical body that techniques that affect the user's body works sometimes utilize it, especially if the Akimichi clan's expansion technique does. Tsunade's strength, Hashirama's healing, and even potentially the flying thunder god and/or the body flicker may all utilize it
If you wanna go with movies there is a Yang release Keke genkai called Swift Release that accelerated the users body to blinding speed which might be how the Otosuki are still so formidable in hand to hand combat despite relying solely on sheer power and no training in ninjitsu

Do you think that the Puppet Master jutsu might qualify as Yang release? Normally I'd think the technique was simply shape transformation, but seeing as how it's clearly defined as a special ninjutsu and there's _definitely_ something going on with the technique than just strings of chakra (10 strings could not possibly allows anyone to use a puppet with the dexterity that Kankuro can, and _especially_ not if they're manipulating more than one puppet). It allows you to manipulate the physical world, living or not, and Sasori's jutsu let him turn himself into a living puppet. Sai's Super Beast Scroll technique also seems to fit the description of a Yang release, breathing life into forms.
Also, I'm of the opinion Medical ninjutsu is Yang release, and sealing jutsu is Yin release.

I think Yang release isn't creating life per se, but mostly has applications for growing/strenthening life.
The expansion technique makes sense now. Without the yang release they would just become fatter.
Shikotsumyaku and Kiba's combination techniques are most likely Yang as well.
And I'd like to throw another one in: Shadow clones. It's what separates them from the ordinary clones. It also explains why naruto and boruto have such natural affinity for it (being Uzumaki, thus having Senju blood). Kiba, another yang user, only managed to create one clone. Konohamaru, yet another yang release user according to the handbook, also has this technique in his arsenal.
The manga does explain yang release pretty well when Tobi talks about the "creation of all things" jutsu. Yin release can create powerful illusions and yang release can give life to anything including illusions. It's how Rkudo created the Bijuu. He dreamed up fantasy creatures with yin and gave them life with yang. It also explains Izanagi. You create an illusion version of events, and then make them real.
I think that yang released is about the form of physical object or chakra itself. In medical ninjutsu it can be use to restructure organs with cells that you might have created with ying released.
