I am now 56 yrs old and I have been playing the drums for over 40 years, and I play bass some and keys. I have written many songs in my life. Never made it big, and now I play drums in my church and I am happy. But my roots started with this song and many from the 50's.

Oh, take me back to 1955! Paul Simon even mentioned this song on his 1973 "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" album, another masterpiece. Released on November 26, 1955, reaching # 17 on February 25, 1956.
Born in 1941; came of age in Brooklyn during the fabulous '50s. Never was there a better time nor more perfect age to have been alive. Looking back, every teenage day was a blast ... filled with joy, carefree friends, excitement, laughter, hot rods, pre-Pill girlfriends with messy lipstick and big hairdos, Alan Freed's R&R shows, and the constant refrain of blow-harmony and Doo-Wop in the background. What a glorious, civilized era it was! So grateful to have been there.
one of the main guys in this group is a guy named Harold Melvin, he later went on to develop the blue notes, and in this group was a guy named teddy Pendergrass, the blue notes gave teddy no recognition, so he split and went on his own, and became a giant in the disco era. teddy is king, his music lends so many great memories.
"No" Harold Melvin gave him plenty of recognition, teddy was the drummer and once he sang some back up``Melvin made him the lead singer!teddy sang on all the best songs from Harold Melvin and the blue notes.

There are thousands of comments about this song, so I have to say this - The Cadillacs "Speedo" did come out in the 50's way before I was born, but it's a very cool, hip, and bangin' song. I'm glad they featured this in the Temptations movie, or I probably would have never heard of it.
This was undoubtedly the most personally powerful song of my teens -to me at least- I remember it going thru my head every day for what seems like years. Not that I didn't know the other music of the times, I'd average radio listening for maybe 10 hours a day. And still, this was the song which haunted my idle mind. And still I love it.

cool... good to hear it tonight
I was born in 1959 and I grew up on this stuff. I learned all of this great music from my mama's 45s. I am now 56 yrs old and I have been playing the drums for over 40 years, and I play bass some and keys. I have written many songs in my life. Never made it big, and now I play drums in my church and I am happy. But my roots started with this song and many from the 50's.
Literally the best song to start your day with
The Temptations mini series brought me here.
Great song.
This is a badass jam!!!
This is a classic. One of the ten most fun songs ever recorded. Paul Simon thought so. He used to quote it.
He'd give the doorman $100 just for opening the door.
gimme à 7 and 7
+Mike Whitaker Jimmy was the kind of guy who rooted for the bad guys in the movies

The bartender would get 100 just for keeping the ice cubes cold.
1955 way before my time what a classic.
Only 34 but reminds me of 8tracks and cassettes. Car rides with my Grandpa are some of the best memories I have from when I was a kid. RIP love you Grandpa
I see where the Motown came from these guys were fabulous
Christopher Barksdale These guys werent Motown artists nor were they from "motown"...Motown records started in 1959
+cloeangel11 You missed the point
Gene Splicer im sorry. Really i am can you tell me what he meant then ?
+cloeangel11 I think he meant that certainly, music like this influenced those other artists doing what they were later on.
Gene Splicer i dont hear it but if you give this song to smokey robinson, he would have done a great job with it
Thank you for posting such a clean version of a great song by a great group featuring a great songwriter/singer. My sincerest sympathies and desire for peace and love to the family of Earl Carroll, God bless you and the life Earl lived on earth for sharing his love and talent with the gift of music. Have a good day and do good while there is still time to do so.
All of the songs that has come out in the 1950's are just so Magical to me as I do love everyone of them and I still love listening to them all of the time either On CD or on You-tube as they do sound so amazing to me
I'm only 55 but my Mother had a console stereo with the long arm that would hold 12 to 15 albums. Every Saturday Mom would have a stack ready play one side then flip um by the time all of both sides where over her house cleaning was also done.

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.
Do you want a partner? I have no ethics and no compassion.
To me being. Gangster was better then being president of the United states
The lead singer Mr. Earl Carroll took a job as a custodian at the PS 87 elementary school in New York City and worked there until retiring in 2005. He died November 25th 2012.
FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER SHALL BELIEVETH UNTO HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE
JOHN 3:16
🥱😴💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤
I remember "Mr. Earl" from my days at P.S.87. He was without a doubt the most fascinating character at that school. When science teacher, Mr. Fields, showed us a video of this song, it only added to the legend. RIP Mr. Earl!
This is one of the greatest songs of doo wop. Love this awesome song
Very thankful I grew up in that era. If I had known then what was coming later I would have appreciated it even more!! I almost feel guilty because it truly was a great experience.
I was 6yrs when this was new and I remember my 4 older brothers would rehearse this song .To perform at talent shows. I can still see now singing and doing splits and back flips as apart of the dance routine in the break of the song.
“It was when I met the world, it was when I first met Jimmy Conway”
It's 11 PM and this song just makes me wanna get up and dance. This song never gets old!

American as apple pie.oh those harmonies.and the primative recording technology of the time.
It was a glorious time. The wise guys were all over the place. It was before Apalachin and before Crazy Joe decided to take on a boss and start a war......
Another timeless Classic hit single from 1955 as it came from GoodFella's as the music within this movie is just so amazing even nowaday's
Oh, take me back to 1955! Paul Simon even mentioned this song on his 1973 "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" album, another masterpiece. Released on November 26, 1955, reaching # 17 on February 25, 1956.
This was one of my mom's absolutely favorite songs.
I don't know what y'all are talking about but I listened to this growing up in the fiftys and sixtys...a very innocent time.
So this incredible early Rock song was in a way a preview of the stone Soul Classic "The Love I Lost!"? Now that is great to hear!B.W.
Give me a 7&7, keep em coming!
part of my memories of the 50s
It was when I met the world. It was when I first met Jimmy Conway.
He couldn't have been more than 28 or 29 at the time, but he was already a legend.
HorrorWarehouse yes yes yes i love it
"And wiseguys...we're ALL OVER THE PLACE"! It was the first time i meet Jimmy Conway.....
Nice music from a nice musical era
Ohh yeah. I was playing Mafia 2 again and now this song is stuck in my head . Love it ♡
I was born in 2005 but this song brings about so much nostalgia of listening to it with my grandpa on long car trips amongst other 50s songs
Una de las mejores canciones RB&Blues germen del ROCK&ROLL

"It was a glorious time. The Wise Guys were all over the place. It was before Appalachian and before Crazy Joe decided to take on a boss and start a war. It was when I met the world."
"Thats when I met Jimmy Conway. He couldn't have been more than 28 or 29 at the time but he was already a legend."
***** Great song and a classic movie!
wanderer1960 What does before Appalachian and Crazy Joe mean?
jimmy page Jimmy, Crazy Joe Gallo started a war with the Profaci family i.e. The Columbo War. He is also credited, but not confirmed to have killed Albert Anastasia. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Gallo
1957 meeting of mafia heads: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apalachin_Meeting
"It was a glorious time. Wiseguys were all over the place..."
There are thousands of comments about this song, so I have to say this - The Cadillacs "Speedo" did come out in the 50's way before I was born, but it's a very cool, hip, and bangin' song. I'm glad they featured this in the Temptations movie, or I probably would have never heard of it.
J'ai à peine 15 ans et je garé des cadilliacs 😂😂😂😂😂
This was undoubtedly the most personally powerful song of my teens -to me at least- I remember it going thru my head every day for what seems like years. Not that I didn't know the other music of the times, I'd average radio listening for maybe 10 hours a day. And still, this was the song which haunted my idle mind. And still I love it.
