  • Back in December, The Points Guy UK's Nicky Kelvin and Daniel Ross were invited on board the final Virgin Atlantic 747 before she left the airline for good. At almost 20 years old, G-VROY, also known as Pretty Woman, made her departure from the Virgin Atlantic fleet, destined for a new life with a new, undisclosed lessor. Strap in for a behind-the-scenes plane experience from business class to economy.

I remember as a young boy being totally mesmerized by the 747. We were planning a trip from Toronto to London or Manchester. My Dad knew I loved this plane so we went to the airport and walked up to our gate and what did I see? A Beautiful Air Canada 747. I said are we going on that? My Dad said yes he wanted to surprise me. I was so excited to have the opportunity to fly on this beautiful bird. If my memory is right we were diverted to Liverpool for weather I think. Liverpool was a small airport at that time and the landing was a little rough. We had to sit on the plane for a long time while they figured out how to get us off this large plane. It also took a long time for them to get the luggage off the plane. I don't think Liverpool had a 747 land there very often if ever. This would have been back in the 70's. Now my Dad and this beautiful plane are gone but the memories will always live. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

So no one is allowed to use the elevator, but what happens to the items when they reach the lower deck? Is someone there to take receipt of them or is there an automated process that takes place? Perhaps I missed this part of the video, so some clarification would be welcome.

Also the reason to retire older planes is to do with metal fatigue

That's so funny that you got to go into Pretty Woman- I have a die cast metal model of Pretty Woman on my shelf! Just had to finally treat myself to a model 747 before they disappeared from our skies forever.

Heartbroken that the 747 has been retired from Virgin. Flown on Pretty Woman a few times. Yet to try the Virgin Boeings, but I suspect the magic of being on a 747 won't be the same.
