i currently live in Reno for 2 years now, personally i like to call it Little Las Vegas lol. But Reno is great access to Lake Tahoe. Its probably about an hour-ish from Reno and about 1h45m from Sacramento. The North Shore and South shore of the lake both get busy...but theres more things to do on the South shore. Winters can be brutal but beautiful at the same time. Spring time, the bears come out from their hibernation, so its not uncommon if you see one casually walk inside a gas station or a supermarket...or take a dip in the lake with the people. Just southeast of Reno is an old western town called Virginia City. On the way there, you will see mustangs or wild horses walking casually on the side of the road or even cross in front of you too. hope this helps
