I remember watching a video from the Critical Drinker a while ago comparing the elevator scene from the 1984 film to the alleyway scene from the 2016 film, and I think some of the points he made translate pretty well to this scene. From the sound of the pack powering up and that's its actually looking a bit weather-beaten we can tell the proton pack is still a highly-dangerous piece of equipment that hasn't seen the light of day for a while, and we also see Phoebe initially struggle to to detach the neutrona wand from the pack, which shows that although she's a bright enough kid who may have worked out or gained knowledge of HOW the pack works, actually USING it in reality is a different and dangerous experience. I also wonder if "her feet are planted" was a little nod to the alleyway scene from the 2016 film.
'Her feet are planted' is not a nod to the 2016 film. 'There hasen't been a ghost sighting in 30 years' and 'Her feet are planted' are there to erase the 2016 film from canon.
Even in the first film we saw they have a kick to em... So maybe they look at old news footage or video recordings of the packs in use and realize they gotta brace when using em, i mean they are kids but like real kids they should be smart enough to be wary about testing it given they more than likely saw stuff about the Ghostbusters on the in-universe YT or even wiki prior to finding or using the pack.
Makes me wonder those who dislike this clip/film so far... what do they want!? ...unless they are the few who wanted GB: ATC they're not going to get a more suitable sequel. Arguably the same team didn't live up to the success in '89 despite being a good film. What I liked from this clip: 1. The switch a nod and answer to even a causal fan 2. The sound design that in this 4K world turns it from a plastic* prop into a breathing proton pack. The sound of gripping the particle thrower/wand. SFX a gun? 3. The feeling of weight. Heavy to push the actors around but light enough to act with (as approved by Murray haha) 4. Actors full stop from Podcasts enquisive showing of his bottom teeth and tilt of the head to find the switch to the expression that echoes the surprised look of when Egon first fired ("nice shooting Tex")...
Such fond memories are back! Those unlicensed nuclear accelerators are not to mess around with. Hope Egon and Ray left some important recordings to their kids and grandkids.

The attention to detail in recreating the look of the proton pack is amazing. It looks just like the original and very much like something right out of the 80’s.
Reminds me of in the original where Ray asks Egon to turn on the pack. Both Egon and Peter move away from him when the pack is powering on. I can not wait to see this!!
OH SHIT OK, so this was one of the packs from 84 with the switch (notice the ribbon cable) that was used on the elevator in the sedgewick that's been updated....hence that switch egon hit when ray said switch me on
Wrong, in the elevator scene there was never a switch on the side of the pack... It was done simply just for the shot of the scene... No pack with that switch ever existed 🙄
@@lamarsmith657 interesting enough Rays pack would be the only pack to feature that "switch." And they would only showcase it once during the two films... Considering Egon fired up his pack from his wand when he walks out of the elevator... The switch never existed as Egon moves his hand in a different direction than in this scene. The switch never existed Playboy 🙄
@@christopherniceley8848 Even though it didn’t actually exist on the pack, it was implied that it existed on the pack. Therefore it exists on the pack. It’s relatively easy to understand I think. Just because the original prop didn’t have a real switch, there was supposed to be a switch.
I think the most important part of this is that Phoebe had a successful test of the equipment. And decided to pull the wand on the sheriff afterward. Just like Egon erupted on Peck.

So maybe they look at old news footage or video recordings of the packs in use and realize they gotta brace when using em, i mean they are kids but like real kids they should be smart enough to be wary about testing it given they more than likely saw stuff about the Ghostbusters on the in-universe YT or even wiki prior to finding or using the pack.
who's worried? each of us is only carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on their backs.
The switch!!!! Love it
Much like a lightsaber, some film sound effects are truly iconic, unmistakable, and timeless.
Makes me wonder those who dislike this clip/film so far... what do they want!? ...unless they are the few who wanted GB: ATC they're not going to get a more suitable sequel. Arguably the same team didn't live up to the success in '89 despite being a good film.
What I liked from this clip:
1. The switch a nod and answer to even a causal fan
2. The sound design that in this 4K world turns it from a plastic* prop into a breathing proton pack. The sound of gripping the particle thrower/wand. SFX a gun?
3. The feeling of weight. Heavy to push the actors around but light enough to act with (as approved by Murray haha)
I'm Hungarian and i already saw it with my girlfriend and we loved it. Verry great sequel for the first two Ghostbusters films. I'm not lying i cried the final part of the movie. I'm not doing spoiler but if you guys fans for the first two films you will understand why.
Ghost Busters Afterlife released in Australia on New Years Day. Watched at V-Max Village Cinemas and it was spectacular! ❤️
Awesome! Getting pretty hyped for the new movie!
"The proton pack is not a toy." Egon, Ghostbusters 2.
The classic proton stream sound effects awesome I can’t till next month 😊👻🚫
Fantastic! I loved this scene!
@@christopherniceley8848 actually it is a switch go back and watch the scene in GB1 playboy and you’ll see Egon switch on Ray’s proton pack
@@christopherniceley8848 I understand but this makes it that there was actually a switch back then that's why egon turned it on up there
@@lamarsmith657 interesting enough Rays pack would be the only pack to feature that "switch." And they would only showcase it once during the two films...
You can't help but to love that sound come on
Back in 84 all kids wanted to do this
Outstanding sound effects.
Egon would be so proud of his grand daughter!! 2016 was an SNL skit in comparison to this gem! I'm going back tomorrow to see it again.
BADASSSS !!!! I CANT. WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE !!!
Can’t wait!!
So good.
Well, it is time for a new generation of ghost busters, isn't it? I think these kids will blossom greatly
Looks and sounds great ... in the true sense of the meaning ... especially the sounds are just wow
I miss the real Ghostbusters on TV.
This scene is indisputable proof that the proton pack is completely badass
I think the most important part of this is that Phoebe had a successful test of the equipment. And decided to pull the wand on the sheriff afterward. Just like Egon erupted on Peck.
Can't wait. Doh ray egon.
I'm counting day by day until the premiere
And they picked the perfect person she looks just like Egon she makes a good granddaughter for him I think truly he is up there cheering this movie on
now this is setting up to be a proper sequel to ghostbusters ulike the last ones
THAT.WAS.AWESOME!
“Wowowowowowowaaaaaaaa nice shootin tex.”
This movie will get some awards.
