Beverley was elected to sing last in this one incredible live outstanding performance. I have been a fan of Beverley Knight for years. It wasn't 10 pre chosen Beatles songs it was a reproduction of the album ''Please please me'' to mark the 50th aniversary of it's release and recorded in the same timescale of the original album - 12 hours, in 1964.

'Twist and Shout' (TAS) is one of the most common standards played by bands or just belted out by good singers but John Lennon's vocals, on 'The Beatles' version, took the song by the scruff of the neck and made people's hair stand on end. Other attempts have ranged from good to great, but the Fab Four's version was phenomenal. I feel sorry for TAS as a song though, because first 'The Beatles' took it by the scruff neck and, years later, Beverley Knight grabbed it by the throat and squeezed out everything that makes this song so great. Phil Medley & Bert Burns, the composers, wrote TAS in 1961 and the 'Isley Brothers' recorded it, but I doubt they could have ever imagined the song as performed by Beverley Knight here. Just look at the session musicians response at the end of the song. All professional musicians and singers who know they have just witnessed something incredibly special. They knew it, and so do most of us who have commented here, on this video. As a Beatles fan, I would have loved to have heard John Lennon's reaction to her performance, but that's not to be, so I'll just enjoy this video again, because TAS has never sounded so good. Beverley Knight, 10 out of 10. Pick up your Gold Medal and wear it with pride. Just magnificent!

The Beatles did it well..But The Pitcher remixed their version to the better. Then there's this. You take perfect song and combo it with a voice like Ms. Knight's and you get Twist and Shout like it was intended to be. You should not be able to listen to it and stay still. It must make you want to move....

i agree....but within herself was the sudden realisation...no worries... and she relaxed and let it all go....superb from start to finish but that point were she enjoyed it is very visible
I think Beverly knight is the ultimate pro. She has complete mastery of how to build a song, and knows not to blow it all out too soon. She also has the power to lift the band(just look at the other performers faces). It's part of why she's Simply the best! 🤗

I always thought that Martha Wash could not be touched with her singing, but I'm sure Beverly could do an equal, no (dare I say), better version of it.
