    Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.
    The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.
    By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

    The predominance of Socialism among the younger generations is an illustration of the brilliance of the "Long March Through the Institutions" strategy.

      That’s a apt description of Canada and the nordics « suffering » with their high placement on the human development and QOL indices while the US « champions » the ever widening wealth gap and shrinking life expectancy. USA! USA! USA!

      Look at zapatista controlled regions of Mexico. They're socialist and they're better then the regions controlled by the Mexican government.

    [This comment is addressing a point he makes later in the talk and I recommend listening to the remainder of this talk on the Hillsdale link, above]. I would say that one of the first and best ways to correct young people's misconceptions of socialism and capitalism is to agree amongst us all NOT to use Marx' pejorative word "capitalism" and use instead better descriptive words like "free enterprise" and "free markets". How about the slogan: "Ban Capitalism" referring to the word but you would get a lot of emotional agreement. Differentiate free enterprise from capitalism or make a new word "free capitalism". If kids are emotionally reacting to the word capitalism, stop using it.

      Perhaps. But also the misconception that unfettered free markets = democracy also requires correction. As a side note, why is this presenter smirking during the presentation. What it tells me is that the preacher and the choir are not in intellectual -healthy skeptic mode but in we all know what I’m saying is absolutely true and isn’t Marx silly. Not healthy.

    Powell, referring to the 2008 recession: "...this was the house Uncle Sam built that we experienced, not free markets." That is just plain hogwash. What caused the 2008 recession was the de-regulation of financial houses, allowing them to ignore the risk inherent in their lending, coupled with the advent of credit derivatives, which allowed a huge increase in the money supply. Former Chairman of the US Fed Alan Greenspan said as much. He was quite clear that markets had failed to take into account what the "risks would be" when credit derivatives grew from a few billion to 60 trillion in the space of 8 years. Since that market collapse, people like Benjamin Powell have been trying desperately to rewrite history, and make reality disappear.

      So obvious. Democracy and captitalism are not intertwined. Capitalism and covernment support and controlling of the markets are. And we are reaping the rewards of that: socialism for the rich and we a allowed to eat cake

      They were deregulated, and pressured to give loans, to unqualified borrowers, in an attempt to let more minorities become home owners. Definitely a socialist agenda.

    • @paulross9287
      @paulross9287 Před 3 měsíci +1

      The deregulation stemmed from an attempt to make more minorities homeowners. I would call that a socialist agenda.
