This Condominium complex was heavily damaged from hurricane Ian. The building has been there for over 20 plus years. The closest Fire Station on the beach was destroyed by hurricane Ian and demolished. Their next closest Station is No. 32 located off the island. Their is a Station towards the south end of the beach not sure if it is operational. All three Stations had flooding from hurricane Ian. The Beach usually staffs two Engines and the Tower a total of 9 Firefighters. There is one Chief that would give them 10 personnel. Depending on the status of the Beach Medic Units they could assist when possible. Other Fire Departments/Apparatus off the beach were also dispatched on the 1st Alarm.

Most of that area is somebody pointed out in wreck from the hurricane so I'm pretty sure they already got insurance that's paid off on the buildings.

Florida is a dead stick. SLR is already causing foundations to be undermined and not just on the coast. There is a multi-billion dollar beach economy that just won't work when the beaches are gone. And the Everglades are being threatened by saltwater intrusion so Crocs are going to be moving from pond to pond which means they will come into contact with humans and that does not bode well. Americans haven't got a migration problem from across the border. It's the states like Fl. Nevada, New Mexico. Anywhere the water cycle is about to be severely messed with that will see the largest exodus. Maybe there should be a wall across the top of Florida.

Great example of the benefits of concrete construction when there's fire. The fire looks as though it never entered the top floor. Just the roof burned.

So folks in case you can’t tell from this vantage point this entire area has pretty much been reduced to rubble on both sides of the road here after hurricane Ian in September of 2022. The gulf side which is the side the fire is on had a lot of house just sucked out into the gulf with the surge. A roof alone on a place like this is a couple hundred thousand, imagine having to replace the roof and much more. Sadly here we are in May of 2023 and there are still ppl homeless, living in their vehicles in Home Depot parking lots. Soup kitchens every 1/4 mile in Fort Myers beach.

I do agree once they arrived on scene, they did great work. When the video started, the fire was well established at the top of the building. You're kidding right?? Think it through I'll give you some hints #1 water weighs about 8 pounds a gallon #2 the heat rising from that fire means any aircraft would need to be pretty high when dropping that water. #3 how much do you think each drop of water should be. Let's say 300 gallons that's 2400 pounds hitting that building. Hope you're getting the picture. That much weight dropped from above would destroy that building.
