I think its mainly because Hull had probably one of the smallest fanbases ever for a premier league club , Hull is a developing city but is only really used for trading with scandinavia and Holland . Hull is actually named after a part of a ship.
If you look at irish players , most of them will come from the irish league , probably the best place for cheap and reliable players for small clubs like Hull

Actually got to meet the Irish lads from Hull City in Portugal in 2014. Shane Long (about 3 weeks before he moved to Southampton),Paul McShane, Roby Brady and another one which I can’t remember the name of right now. Nice lads but my god McShane was terrible
