According to Vlad Vexler who was born in Moscow and lived in the Soviet Union, Soviet propaganda tries to convince you that something is true while this other thing is false.
Russian propaganda (of the Russian Federation) is different in that it is obviously false by design; it is supposed to be obvious that what it is saying isn’t true.
The goal is not to galvanise and incentivise you, but to make you passive, tired, weary and unwilling to engage or become invested in politics.

The MIA thing is a bit mind-boggling, too. It would be so embarrassing if 200k trips died in war but it's somehow less embarrassing that avoiding them that they've simply lost track of 200k troops. • @madgavin7568

Its deliberate manipulation of stats and a calculated move from the Russian state. By simply stating their troops are 'missing in action' they avoid talking about troops who've really been killed in action (which would have some effect on war support at home) and as a bonus the government doesn't need to pay the families of the dead, I mean 'missing' troops any compensation money for their loss which means the government can save said the money for the war effort. On the one hand its a cunning strategy, on the other hand immoral and evil but its not like the Russian government cares about morality unless they can use said moral narratives for their own benefit.

Fun fact about the "arrested Ukrainian Nazi assassins" on Russian TV:
As they displayed the "proof they were nazi assassins", there was an interesting bit of items laid out on the bed. Three copies of the video game Sims 3. What apparently happened, was that some propaganda director asked their subordinates to include 3 sims in the evidence. They were probably thinking about sim cards, sort of like how a spy might have 3 to make his calls harder to trace or pattern etc. But I guess his goons didn't quite get that. What's funny about this, is that they filmed the three copies of the game, and it was aired.

Peter Pomerantsev wrote an excellent book titled "nothing is true and everything is possible" on the overall state of modern Russian society. It was sort of a combination of memoir and anthology that tried to provide a taste of the new breed of lunacy that has taken hold of the nation in the post-Soviet criminal oligarchy era. "This is not propaganda" is probably also excellent but I haven't finished it so I can't say for certain. Noticed him mentioned in this video and wanted to stump.

Russians are also using lots of bots and now even AI edited videos and images. Like altering a video of Finland's prime minister to appear as if she is calling for war with Russia.
There was also a news story recently of social media accounts spreading basically the same message with different variations in Finnish. "Nato ei voi tallentaa Suomea" meaning " NATO cannot save Finland". Except that in Finnish there are many translations for the word "save" in depending on context. The bots had chosen the word "tallentaa" which means saving as in saving a file or video. So a better translation to english would be "NATO cannot record Finland". Otherwise the messages had very good Finnish and Finnish looking profiles so even a native speaker couldn't have spotted anything weird were it not for that one translation error on all the messages.

I have been speaking russian my whole life. I am from Kyiv region. There has never been any oppression towards me, nor my family. Now I am only happy that I know the tongue of my enemy, while fully switching to Ukrainian language.
Someone may ask me, why have I not been speaking Ukrainian already. Well, it is because of russian influence in the media, in my school curriculum( it is a usual public school), in my university(until 2014) and, of course, because both of my parents speak russian, which is one of the effects of soviet union. Ukrainian language was not popular in my surroundings, so people around me mostly used russian.
Our culture was being erased pretty much. I am ashamed that I considered Ukrainian to be just a funny language and something alien to me as a Ukrainian citizen myself(which is absurd) but this opinion itself is what russian propaganda was making people think.

Its a "special military operation", you can't be charged with war crimes if you call it not a war.

An ex-shipmate of mine is a Russian propagandist embedded with the Russian army for the last few years. If he wasn't still so monumentally bad at framing, narration, scripting, editing, sound capture, and public speaking he might actually be good at it. Pat Lancaster still has videos up on his YT from right before the invasion, talking about the invasion never going to happen and it's all western fear-mongering. He's been caught staging scenes several times and his "journalism" is never anything short of deepthroating Putin's agenda. I have a tinfoil theory as to why he became so very pro-Putin, his wife was a Russian honeypot. He met a Moldovan woman in Tokyo while we were stationed in Japan and they started dating almost right away, his uncharismatic ass was always the wingman, never the player, so this seemed like a standard green card-hunting foreign national and we thought nothing of it. He worked in electronic warfare with radar and missile defense with a Top Secret clearance, he knows better than to take Russian state media at it's word, yet now he's repeating Kremlin talking-points like it's fact.

Thanks for his backstory. He’s seriously up to his neck in it. And I don’t envy him if he ever returns to the states. Much like his ex-partner Graham Phillips who was sanctioned by the UK last year.

@@klubberzvonhatzenbuhl563 He was back in the states around 1/6 pretending to be a neutral journalist there as well. The FBI is aware of his activities, whether he was on their radar before I alerted them about him or not, I don't know.

Solovyov is an extremely highly paid presenter- I was going to say journalist, but just couldn't, as every single word that he utters is a lie. He is not the equivalent of Tucker Carlson; Carlson lies for money for a successful private tv station that preys on undereducated Americans, Solovov's instructions come from the highest echelons of the Russian State. The similarity between Solovov and Carlson is that they both lie compulsively and without conscience for money, lots of money. They live at the lowest levels of sentient humanity
