  • It gets weird, just stick with it. And watch the edges.
I think the thing worth saying about this video is that it's a bit of an experiment, with old glass. These lenses are not going to produce the cleanest, sharpest, most perfect image. They're going to be soft, and not be consistent edge to edge. There's going to be ghosting, aberrations, and some swirling, and they're going to flare like crazy. But that's what's charming about them. They produce a feel, and have a personality. Black Pro Mist and other diffusion filters are so popular today because they "take the digital edge off". There's 1000 youtube videos that will tell you diffusing your lens will make your footage "cinematic". What they're trying to emulate though is a bygone film look, when images were far softer. There's of course all manner of ways to achieve this but what I have found to be the most affordable is looking for vintage lenses. These lenses really don't need diffusion because they already have many of those characteristics by themselves. Of course it will be harder to control the look, they are what they are. There were times during my journey when I was always chasing a more perfect image, but messing around with imperfect lenses paired with a quality sensor has been lots of fun.
I had found the Vivitar 70-210mm to produce quite a pleasing image. It's a bit soft, but to me that's part of it's charm. I liked it so much that I took to eBay to see what other Vivitar lenses were around. Well I found a 28mm f2.5 for $9. That's right NINE DOLLARS. It's far from the image quality of a modern lens. But I can always shoot with my Tokina Vistas if I want perfection. These old lenses are about personality and flare. And boy does it flare.
I took it a step further by pairing the 28mm with a fisheye adapter, expander? I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I've had it since I bought my first canon rebel camera over a decade ago. It creates quite an interesting, if not highly distorted result. In this video it's also paired with a speedbooster since I was shooting on the GH5 for that lens. When throwing the lens ever so slightly out of focus and then treating the footage with Dehancer it starts to look pretty close to 16mm film imo. Doing this also creates more of a swirl.
Also featured is the Pentax 28mm and 50mm, which I made previous videos about. As well as a canon 18-55mm (stock lens). All macro shots with the 70-210mm were on the Red. Gimbal is dji RS3 pro.

What mount does it have? And is it or can it be compatible with canon?

@@theartistrylover5827 all my cameras have ef mounts. All these lenses can be found in different mounts though, especially the Vivitar. For the pentax lenses as well as the Vivitar 70-210 I have a pentax to ef. Then the Vivitar 28 it's an FD to ef adapter. But again all these lenses come in different mounts, so it's just a matter of finding the right adapter, which shouldn't be too hard as they're generally pretty affordable. Just search eBay.
