  • In this week's video, I talk about what is new for the 2018 Ford Raptor. Then I take it on a spirited drive to see how it drives. I also put it side by side with a 2003 f-150 to show how far the ford truck has come in the last 15 years.

    Your brother makes sense and makes a few good points. The Raptor doesn’t quite handle as well as the $45k ZR2, (nimbleness) fun factor is comparable....but R wins out in about all other areas.

    I’ve wanted to buy a Raptor for awhile and just a couple of weeks ago I decided to pursue it further with a trip to the dealership. I have to admit that I was totally enthralled with the looks and styling of this truck as it definitely has the muscle and flare that requires you to stand and stare for awhile. The one I was looking at buying was white with black interior and it was fully loaded up with all the options. I was worried about the exhaust note with the V6 Ecoboost , but I think Ford’s done a nice job with how the Raptor sounds and I wouldn’t wait on a 7.0 based on that single factor. The test drive is what thoroughly convinced me on why I didn’t want to own a Ford Raptor. I have owned a multitude of different vehicles ( trucks, cars, jeeps, etc ) over my lifetime and the Raptor ranks up there as one of the all time worst in ride quality. Believe me when I state that I wanted to own this truck and the looks alone had me in its grips. I drove it three different times to give myself the opportunity to change my mind, but each time I drove it I knew that I would regret owning that truck. It’s rough folks....and I’m not exaggerating. The suspension and shock setup on this vehicle requires the rider to endure every square -inch of every mile. The rougher the pavement the worse the ride gets...and it’s so pronounced that I couldn’t ignore it no matter how much I wanted to. I know that opinions will vary but I can’t understand how anyone can give an objective opinion and state that this truck drives like a Cadillac. I have no bad feelings about the Raptor other than the ride quality, but I have to also state that the brakes didn’t feel that strong either. They were soft and mushy and I didn’t like that characteristic of the truck at all. I did buy a Ford F-150 Platinum with the ecoboost and for me it was a much better decision.

      I appreciate the input! We drove a couple as well and this one felt much smoother than the one we test drove before this one was delivered. I’m not sure why that might be, but just an observation.

      Allan Miles
      Hey Allan,
      That's my truck in the video. All new Raptors come from the factory with the tires very over-inflated. You can find this information on the Raptor forums. It causes the truck to ride horribly. My truck was no different. The tires were over 50psi each when new. Once you reduce the pressure to the recommended 38psi, the ride is amazing. If you drive another new one that feels that way, check the pressure on the dash screen, and I guarantee they'll be over-inflated.

      I know I’m a little late to the party but I just bought this exact same truck. Fully loaded 2018 lead foot raptor and I absolutely love it. You’re either hating on the raptor for no reason or you truly drove one that just somehow wasn’t up to par. This truck feels amazing when it drives plain and simple. Although I will agree with you on the breaks. It does kinda feel soft and mushy but it’s something I can live with. Cant wait to take this thing off roading and put it to its limits

      I did the same. Getting it in Oxford white, black rims. Even got the motorcycle ramps.hahaha. I opted to not get the bed graphic and just stuck with the hood graphic. Just got an update a couple days ago that it off loaded from the train in SLC and should be at my dealer by early next week!! Can't wait to take possession of this amazing truck.

    Miss Bell. Hearing about all your problems with your 2018 has given me second thoughts about buying a used one with 18,000 miles. Oil pan leaks and transmission problems. Darn not good. James

      Truck will be slow as fuck unless you boost it plus nose heavy

    • @jennings69
      @jennings69 Před 6 lety

      we shall see doubt a Raptor will be slow, 7.0 isn't much more metal than a 6.2

    • @AutoDetour
      @AutoDetour  Před 6 lety +1

      I'm gonna have to agree with Lane on this one. I think it's going to be more of a matter as to if Ford wants to sacrifice their average EPA rating on one truck when they have a more efficient Ecoboost motor already. They have an average allocated fuel economy rating that they have to meet over their entire product line, so if the Raptor gets less fuel efficient, they will have to make up for that somewhere else. So, it will be interesting to see what they do.

    • @RAM-KINGOFTRUCKS
