Seeing Commandant Lassard laugh like that had me laughing when I was a kid and I still laugh at it still to this day George Gaynes really was a sweet person and he put sweetness into this character and he's gone but never forgotten he will always be known as Commandant Lassard no matter what other roles has played in other movies or TV shows
I think one of the reasons why 70s and 80s comedies still hold up is that the cast weren't trying too hard to be funny, they let the script and gags speak for themselves.

Facts... This is one of my favorite scenes in all of the Police Academy Movies. Lassards laughter was so Genuine... I bet they did it in one Take.
I like to think that this was the only shot they had to do. He saw that and they were like “keep it rolling”.
