  • As we're at the start of January, plenty of people are thinking about new goals for the year ahead. Today I thought I'd share my story of how I went from complete beginner to sprint triathlete last year. Whilst a sprint triathlon isn't an ironman, this was a HUGE achievement for me, the girl who just a couple of years ago wouldn't even walk to school.
Today I'm answering your questions about how to get started in the sport, how to stay motivated, what kit your REALLY need and more. I hope this is useful if you're new to triathlon and if you're also considering a triathlon this year, do be sure to leave me a comment down below!

Turning 24 in January 8th, decided that this year I'll become a triathlete. Started swimming for health reasons, due to uni had to drop it andstarted running. The endorphins kept me hooked. 2024 is gonna be my year! Amazing video

Use cycling as your main form of transport and you’ll get better without even noticing! I live in a very big hilly city with crappy cycle paths etc. (Sheffield) And I have a life that’s all over the city. But I had my driving licence revoked 4 years ago due to my mental health and cycling gave me back my transport freedom and an accidental new skill and love in my life! Thanks for these videos they’re so inspiring, I’m hoping to do a sprint triathlon next year!

Thank you for the advice. I really must cycle more, but bike theft puts me off. I have just got back from Germany where I cycled everywhere and had great cycle routes. Good luck with your sprint triathlon. You will love it and it is great for your mental health... just off to park run!

Yes the bike theft thing is a pain in the A*!E @@ImogenWhite - I did get 4 bikes stolen in 2 years - but a) insuring them properly is really worth it - I've always been able to claim fully and b) learning to lock it properly does help. Cycling in Europe is a dream! I really want to go bikepacking in europe at some point. I have several fitness challenges I want to do next year to raise money for a certain charity - cycle coast to coast, a sprint triathlon, 3 peaks and roller skate the Berlin marathon! Yes I run every morning too and used to swim competitively as a teenager so I think that won't take long to get back into. I'm also just off to park run! :) Enjoy!

It's awesome to see how far you've come and the future is your oyster. With time you'll fall in love with cycling also. In the rural Canadian winter I have a fluid trainer in the basement and a Trek Farley 5 when it's nice enough to get outside.

Thank you so much! I've been really working on the cycling this week and definitely finding my feet with it a little more. I bet the views are insane in Canada but can also imagine the cold (and snow?!) is no joke!

Hi Imogen. Love this. Can you explain a bit more what a week of training would look like for you in specific terms? How much of each discipline do you aim to do per week? X
