Use shape layers in after effects. Gives you all the control you need. Or better yet, create your mattes in illustrator or photoshop.

I've been finding a way to make a rounded color matte for an hour now. All I could find is about the Essential Graphics, and I don't want that. I found no solutions except this one. Thank you SO MUCH MAN, you have no idea how much time you just saved me.
Had a lot of rectangle graphics animated for a client video, and now they want rounded edges.
To my horror I discovered there is no easy way to round edges of rectangles made with rectangle tool in Premiere like there is in After Effects.... like wtf, graphics in Premiere is literally a pain in the *ss, ADOBE PLZ FIX!!
