Smokejumper Training 2024

NIFC is the home base of the Great Basin Smokejumpers, one of nine smokejumper bases in the United States! As the busy season approaches, these extraordinarily strong and disciplined firefighters are preparing their gear, their bodies, and their minds for the work - which means brushing up on the practice of bailing out of a fixed-wing aircraft at 3,000 feet. From rookies performing their first jumps to veterans with many seasons under their belts, this is an exciting time of year for jumpers.
