    What's up Smart Homers! I hope you enjoy this video - it's a bit of a different style! For this project I used #homeassistant as the brains of the operation, a #raingauge, a #moisturesensor, a valve controller, and a #sprinkler kit. If you have any questions, let me know in the comments! Thanks for watching!

    Great video. I also have something similar planned to automate the turning on of my soaker hose. I was planning on getting a solenoid valve and connecting it to HA with a Shelley. I liked what you did though. Great info about the soil moisture sensors.

    I am getting a little tired of not being able to save any money because people keep posting good automations for Homeassistant. I'm going to need a therapist for my addiction, a bigger bank account for my addiction, a higher paying job for my addiction, and one of those Ecowitt rain guages, of course! Thanks for the automation.

      If only women would get into it. I have to make everything having to do with inside the house simple (closet light on when door open) or the very first time I restart home assistant she opens a closet door and makes sure she tells me its not working. Everytime I buy something I tell her its needed for my zigbee network (because she has no idea what zigbee is). I want to write a book of wife-friendly automations and how to bring them along slowly. It took me 6 months to get her to use the wireless button for some string lights instead of unplugging and plugging in some lights.

    • @makeitworktech
      @makeitworktech  Před 2 lety +1

      Haha, the secret is to get one automation that's super useful to her. Then she's hooked! That's what I did and now she doesn't even complain! Plus most things work without many hiccups these days 99% percent of viewers of my vids are male - would be nice if that changed a little!

    This is well timed. When I saw the notification yesterday I was worried this would be one of those intensive sprinkler systems with different zones. I wanted to do something hose based and love what you did! Did you have any issues with your WiFi network range for the new devices or are none of them using WiFi?

    • @makeitworktech
      @makeitworktech  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! The only issue I had was when I tried the BLE moisture sensor, so I switched 915MHz!

    Another idea is to implement weather forecast . If it is raining in X hours no water. And a double Check. With the humidity Sensor in X hours + 20 min. If it realy has rained

    • @makeitworktech
      @makeitworktech  Před 2 lety

    Check out the Smart Irrigation integration. It will calculate how much to water based on how much moisture the plants and soil lose during the day.

    Thanks for sharing, great project! I powered up a WH51 soil sensor, but SDR2mqtt is not detecting it. I see this in the log:
    PROTOCOL = -R 142 -R 113
    FREQUENCY = -f 915M
    Registered 2 out of 218 device decoding protocols [ 142 113 ]
    No supported devices found.
    Any suggestions on how to debug? I don't have any other ecowitt devices, but could order some if needed (e.g. GW1100 gateway)

      Thanks! If your config is the same as mine at 6:25, you should be good, but make sure you have the RTL-SDR device plugged into your HA hardware's USB port. MQTT all set up properly?

      No, I wasn't planning to get too accurate with them. I think I checked one by putting it into a glass of water and making sure it read 100%. I'll do that tonight 👌
